Summary: Lynn is thirty-six. Her eighteen-year-old daughter, Hina, loves to stuff her belly to the brim with food. But Lynn soon realizes that this was a bad idea, because Hina doesn't stop eating until she feels really stuffed. Contains: Female: stuffing, belly expansion, weight gain, force feeding. “I know you’re young now, but you really have to stop eating like that,” Lynn chided her daughter for what felt like the hundredth time. “You know your father has high cholesterol.”
Hina rolled her eyes as she continued to munch away at her third overflowing bowl of breakfast cereal. The stuff was more sugar than anything else.
“Are you even listening to me?” said Lynn, exasperated.
“I have to get to school,” responded Hina stiffly, not even bothering to look her mother’s way as he dropped her spoon and slung her backpack over her shoulder. Ever since the divorce, Hina had been withdrawn, and she had developed an unhealthy attachment food. It was as though eating had become one of her few joys in life. Hina was young though; only eighteen. Lynn hoped that she would grow out of it.
Then again, Hina was practically an adult now. In a matter of months, she would be going off to college. Lynn didn’t want her to develop health or weight issues, lest those issues follow her into adulthood.
And yet Lynn was tired of badgering her daughter. She didn’t want to be too hard on her. Hina had already been through so much, with John’s departure, and then there was high school and grades. Being a kid wasn’t easy. Perhaps Lynn could take this one thing off her daughter’s shoulders, at least for the time being.
So that night, after Hina had already gone to bed, Lynn performed a simple spell.
She had sworn off witchcraft years earlier. Magic was erratic, messy, and sometimes had unexpected consequences.
But it was such a simple spell. Lynn was confident that it would be fine.
Standing naked in her bedroom under the flickering light of two dozen candles, Lynn spread her arms. There were runes drawn in chalk on the wooden floor around her. This wasn’t the ideal environment for casting, but it would just have to do.
At thirty-six, Lynn was unhealthily thin, the bones of her vertebrae protruding against her pale skin. And it wasn’t as though she didn’t know it. She saw the concerned looks everyone threw her way. But what most people didn’t realize was that she was giving it her all just to hold it together; just to get out of bed every morning.
“Not an appetite for the meek,” Lynn murmured, feeling the warmth of the magic flowing over her. “Share with me all which you eat.”
Then all the candles went out.
-
Lynn had no regrets as she sipped coffee the following morning, silently watching Hina dig into another bowl of sugary cereal at the kitchen table.
Lynn was fairly certain that the spell had worked. She could feel it working. The incantation made it so that three quarters of all the food Hina ate was transported to Lynn’s stomach instead of Hina’s. And though Lynn had yet to consume anything that morning, she could feel her hunger being quelled, and her stomach filling. In no time, she was sated, as her stomach filled with ¾ of the sugary cereal Hina was consuming. Lynn smiled to herself as she took another sip of coffee. Maybe this could really work out—for the both of them. Lynn’s issues with low weight and malnutrition weren’t getting any better. She survived on coffee, cough drops, and the occasional muffin.
“How are you feeling this morning, dear?” Lynn inquired.
Hina threw a glare, and Lynn was saddened to see how distrustful her daughter was towards her. Hina thought that every inquiry was some trap or accusation.
“Fine, mom,” Hina huffed bitingly. “I know you don’t like me eating cereal –”
“It’s fine,” Lynn cut her off. “Enjoy.”
Hina looked suspicious. “I should…actually get to school, anyway,” she said, before gulping down one more heaping spoonful that brought Lynn right to the cusp of feeling uncomfortably full.
With that, Hina got up, grabbed her books off the table, and walked off.
“Have a good day!” Lynn called, as Hina slammed the door shut behind her.
-
As days passed, and Lynn got used to this strange, new connection she had to her daughter, their relationship actually improved. Lynn was certainly relieved to not have to badger Hina all the time anymore, and Hina, in turn, seemed to have decompressed a little. She was no longer so on guard whenever Lynn entered a room. Things were quiet, but…content between them. It had not been this way in a while, and Lynn just wanted to savor it.
“Mmmghh…” Lynn moaned quietly, pausing at her office door just before she could walk in. She was warm and sweaty, her stomach uncomfortably full. It seemed that Hina had had another big lunch. She swore, the girl was eating more and more by the day. Lightly shaking her head, Lynn pulled out her keys and unlocked her office door.
“Hey Lynn,” said a voice behind her. Lynn turned around to see her coworker, Charlotte. “Brought your favorite.” Charlotte held up two containers of caesar salad, their typical work lunch.
Lynn wasn’t remotely hungry, but she forced a smile, letting Charlotte into her office. “Thanks, Charlotte. I needed a break from all the whining.”
“Hey, that’s no way to talk about our dearest patients,” Charlotte joked. Both she and Lynn were physical therapists at a clinic just outside of town.
“I was talking about myself,” Lynn admitted, causing Charlotte to grin. “Take a seat. Tell me the latest gossip.” Lunch with Charlotte was often the highlight up Lynn’s week. She just wished that they could do it more often, but work was busy with the football season underway.
As Charlotte plopped her plump body on the couch and uncovered her salad as she chattered away about something, Lynn tried to focus. She sat down behind her desk, fingers interlocked under her chin while she stared at Charlotte’s moving lips, but didn’t really hear anything.
She was just so uncomfortable. God, was Hina eating again? The teen was bottomless pit lately. Unless this type of eating was just normal for Hina, and Lynn hadn’t realized?
“Lynn?”
Lynn snapped out of her reverie to see Charlotte giving her a concerned look.
“Lynn? You with me?”
“Oh…sorry,” said Lynn, wiping some sweat off her face.
“You okay, hun? You look out of it.”
“Yeah, um…just thinking about some stuff at home. Sorry about that.”
“Is this about Hina? She still giving you a hard time?”
“I think we’re giving each other a hard time, but things are…progressing.” Which direction that was, Lynn didn’t know. She tried not to grimace as she felt a stab of pain in her midsection. Really, Hina?
Charlotte offered a sympathetic smile. “You two will work it out. I remember those days you used to bring her in to work with you. You guys were inseparable.”
“I haven’t brought her in since she was eleven,” Lynn reflected, and she couldn’t help smiling at the memory despite her discomfort. “Now she’s a teenager, and well – they're like a different species.”
“Don’t I know it,” said Charlotte with an eye-roll. She had a couple of kids of her own. “Lynn, you know you can reach out to me if you ever need a thing. Anything at all,” she said as she held Lynn’s gaze, looking very solemn, if just at that moment.
“I know.” Lynn sighed. “And I really appreciate that. Thank you.”
“Thank you for taking that tennis elbow turd off my hands.”
“Talkative Tony? He’s not so bad.” And the gossip resumed.
-
“Not eating?” Hina muttered a few days later during dinner. She had happily dug into the chicken and rice that Lynn had prepared, but then had also used her allowance money to order pizza. The audacity! Now Hina was gnawing through two large pepperoni pies with extra cheese, and Lynn realized things had gone too far. Every bite Hina took left Lynn twisting her face from the strain.
“No,” Lynn managed. “I’m…on a diet.”
Hina rolled her eyes but did not comment. She just ate more fervidly, perhaps suspecting this was some form of reverse psychology.
“Hina…” said Lynn carefully. “Don’t you think—?”
“Actually, mom, I’m really tired.” Hina closed the remaining pizza box, lifting it. “I’m gonna try to get a little studying in then head to bed.”
Lynn grit her teeth. “Right,” she said tersely.
Hina left for her bedroom, taking the remaining pizza slices with her. The girl was completely out of control! Lynn groaned, hugging her stomach and dropping her forehead against the table top.
-
Lynn was usually a sound sleeper, but that night, she awoke with a groan of pain and tension in her stomach. She now had a curve there, a small bump that had not been there just a couple of weeks earlier. “God,” she breathed, grimacing. Was Hina eating again? Lynn hadn’t known her daughter to be a late-night snacker. Then again, it was becoming clear that there was quite a lot that Lynn didn’t know about Hina’s eating habits. “This is ridiculous,” she grunted, wincing as the pain and pressure only intensified, her stomach filling more. The girl was a vacuum! Rubbing her belly while breathing heavily, Lynn resolved to have a conversation with the teen. This sort of behavior just couldn’t go on.
-
Lynn was working out what she was going to say to her daughter and how she was going to force Hina to listen for once. Her mind was wandering during her doctors appointment, but she managed to focus enough to hear him saying, “I’m impressed.”
“What?” said Lynn distractedly.
“Well, you’ve put on ten pounds,” he elaborated. “Your weight is in the normal range for once, your iron levels are good, so is your vitamin D level. Good pulse, blood pressure, and cholesterol. All of your bloodwork is great, no anemia. This is the healthiest you’ve been in years, Lynn. I can tell that you’re putting in a lot of hard work.”
Lynn reddened slightly at the praise, particularly because she had little to do with her recent changes. She hadn’t registered that she was getting healthier, but as she considered things, she knew it was true. It was so hard for her to get food or anything else down except for strong, black coffee. She’d never had much of an appetite—even less so after John’s departure. But now…now she was getting nutrition in a rather strange and unconventional way. Through her daughter.
“Oh, I…” Lynn was briefly at a loss for words. “Yes, I have been working at it.” She remembered last year when she had been so fragile that she had broken a rib just from sneezing too hard. How the hospital had wanted her admitted for psychiatric treatment. They had thought she’d had disordered eating. On the contrary, she was just kind of numb to everything.
“I know it’s been hard, but I’m glad to see you taking better care of yourself. Keep up the good work,” he said.
Lynn left the clinic, a little stunned. As she learned more about the extent of her daughter’s eating habits, she had considered that Hina herself needed therapy for this. But was it as serious as Lynn was making out to be? After all, Hina’s excessive eating was making Lynn healthy.
Maybe this wasn’t such a bad thing.
-
Lynn tried to stop stressing.
That worked out well for a couple of days. But she was tired. Actually, physically, tired. Overwhelmed by that heavy fatigue one got after a big meal, but she was always feeling it lately. She just wasn’t very used to being so full all the time.
Her belly was uncomfortably tight almost constantly, always filled with a fresh meal, always getting tighter. Lynn quickly came to the realization that Hina was always eating. Whether she was consuming one of her oversized meals, or just snacking on chips or chocolates during classes, or even indulging in a late-night snack, if she was awake, she had food on hand, and she was usually stuffing it into her greedy little mouth.
And she seemed to be eating even more than usual. She wasn’t feeling that fullness in her stomach that told her when to stop. Lynn was worried. She had intended to help her daughter, but what if she had messed this all up?
But again, Lynn tried not to overthink things. She was giving Hina’s body a much-needed break from all the junk food, while giving her own body some of the fat and nutrition that it desperately needed. It was a win-win. She could always reverse the spell in the future, and harshly reacquaint her bratty daughter with the feeling of being so stuffed that you might be sick.
“Nrrghhhh…” Lynn groaned, as she yet against spared her daughter that sensation. She chuckled bitterly as she leaned on the wall in her office, hands cupping the firm, rounded skin of her packed belly where it stretched out her blouse. This is getting ridiculous, she thought as she grimaced down at the bump.
No, it was fine. Everything would be fine.
