Olivia didn’t know how, but she got through the whole container. It must have been half a gallon of lard.
For a few disoriented moments, she tried to get back into the girdle, though it didn’t come close to fitting her anymore. Belatedly, she realized that she didn’t seem to need it. Her belly was round and firm; a bloated ball of growing pressure. She pulled her dress back down, the material stretching tight against her swollen belly. She could feel the sweat beading on her temples as fast as she wiped it away. She felt as though she was subtly growing by the moment, her abdomen steadily progressing outwards.
At any rate, it looked like a convincing pregnancy. Olivia waddled for the door and made her way out of the office.
She felt flushed and dizzy, forcing herself onward through the haze of pressure, heat, and discomfort. But she was already late.
Olivia winced as she got to the elevator, a sharp ache shooting through her breasts. She knew they were — full — but she didn’t have time to deal with it. Her priority at that moment was keeping her job. So she tried to hold in the milk cumulating and stretching her. Her nipples were still releasing frequent droplets, slowly saturating the tissue she had stuffed her bra with. But it wasn’t anything too substantial. It was under control.
People stared as she waited. Someone behind her shoulder asked her something, but Olivia could barely register it. She didn’t respond, she just tried to focus on what she would say at the meeting. The elevator doors finally slid open and Olivia waddled inside.
Someone else shuffled into the elevator with her. He had to paste himself against the wall to keep from making contact with her belly. Even then, Olivia felt her mass squishing against him at certain points as she wavered.
He chest heaved with her heavy breathing. Each time she inhaled, her flesh overflowed the neckline of her dress, fat bulging, nipples stinging.
The elevator arrived on the third floor with a soft ringing noise. Feeling ready to cry from all the strain and discomfort, Olivia steeled herself and moved out of the elevator, suspecting that she was even heavier than before she had entered it. A twinge of strain in her spine left her grimacing and clutching her back, but thankfully, the discomfort abated. Again, she couldn’t help reflecting on how huge she was. Her belly was a round, tight ball, wider than her flanks. She probably looked as though she was due with triplets by then.
She made a stop in the women’s restroom just adjacent to the meeting room. As she gripped the sink, her belly pressed into it. She looked in the mirror and took in her pink, dewy complexion.
Olivia she bit her lip as she carefully reached into the too-low neckline of her dress, and the bra that was torturously compressing her there.
She pulled out the tissues, which were already halfway to soaked. Perhaps it was ill-advised, but desperate times and all. Maybe the execs and board members needed to truly see what a mother she was becoming; maternal in every sense. Practically bursting with offspring and milk — and frankly desperation.
Olivia gave a shaky laugh, though little about the situation was amusing. Then she frowned, and squeezed her eyes shut for just a moment. I can do this, she told herself. I can. She opened her eyes and met her reflection, the apprehension there undeniable. But she contrived a smile, turned for the door, and headed out.
-
When Olivia burst into the room, the whole meeting came to a halt.
Every man there with his crisp Italian suit and crewcut hair paused to stare at her.
Olivia was certain she looked like a mess. She offered a smile all the same, this one apologetic. “Sorry I’m late,” she said. “I feel like a snail these days, with the baby and everything.” She rubbed her belly emphatically.
Mark Feldman, company CFO, and the very man there to end Olivia’s career, shook himself out of his reverie, then hurriedly got to his feet. He pulled out his chair, offering it to Olivia. “Not to worry dear, you should take your time,” he assured, his eyes consistently darting down to her profound midsection.
Olivia shuffled closer, placing herself directly at the head of the large rectangular table that presently crowded with corporate executives. As desperately as she wanted to ease her heavy body down into that chair, it had to wait. “Actually, I…I wanted to see if I could get a few words in before you all get into it. I’m afraid if I sit down I might not be able to get up,” she joked, deriving some chuckles. Some were authentic, others forced. A good number of people continued to stare at her belly, looking almost daunted.
“Go right ahead,” said Feldman, a bit uneasy. He wasn’t going to tell a pregnant woman to shut up. Olivia doubted he even knew her first name. She was just a peon, but it was time to take a stand.
Ignoring the fresh bead of sweat trickling down the side of her face, she started, “I just wanted thank you, sir, for all the opportunities you’ve given us here at our local branch,” Olivia said, making sure to meet eyes with the head honcho’s one at a time, before settling again on Feldman. “While other companies are pushing diversity out, you promoted me, not just a woman, but a pregnant woman, right into a leadership position,” she went on, her smile certainly deranged. “And that — well that’s just commendable, sir. Frankly, Mr. Feldman, you’re my hero.”
There was a bout of strained silence. A few people awkwardly clapped, but that faded fast. Another person cleared his throat. And Mark Feldman looked terribly, terribly uncomfortable.
“It is so truly difficult for woman to get ahead these days,” Olivia said, after she was satisfied with the CFOs silent suffering. “And I can’t thank you enough, personally.” People were exchanging nervous looks. Olivia was one of only two women in the room at present, and this only helped her cause. She had to milk it for all it was worth. Well, that and the “baby.”
“I know I’m still new in my position, but I really look forward to turning this office aroun—nnnnghh…” Her face twisted as a surge of pressure blossomed outward, rolling through her belly. She panted as she clutched it. “S-sorry,” she stammered, again trying to smile. “I d-don’t know what came over me. I guess — well, munchkin’s been so active lately.”
“Do you need to sit down, dear?” Feldman was seizing any opportunity to change the subject and get her off the floor.
“I’m fine,” Olivia snapped. “As I was saying —” She was cut off by another forceful wave of pressure. She groaned, now hunching slightly.
“Miss, are you okay?”
“I think she’s going into labor!”
“No,” Olivia protested. “I – I’m just great. Just — lots of movement.” She continued to rub her belly, now breathing heavily, feeling her face incrementally redden as the pressure inside her rose. “Heh, yes, driving me nuts already. I know this k-kid is going to g-give me a run for my money.” She tried a stay on track. “W-won’t be easy. It’s just me and my one income; the father’s out of the picture. But I think we’ll manag…ahhh—mmmmgghhh —”
Her belly tightened. Visibly. She could see the stain of her dress getting even worse, her abdomen shifting, inching forward. She could feel the heat and heaviness of her body growing, pushing and stretching, as she struggled to bear it.
“Ngrrhhhh…gghhhhh….” She gripped a shelf nearby, back arching as she whined and struggled, her body pouring sweat. She felt tight to bursting, her belly still swelling larger and rounder, visibly advancing. “GODDD!” she cried as her belly popped forward several inches with an exaggerated jiggle. Several men sprang to their feet, a few stumbling back in shock.
Olivia felt faint and dizzy. She could sense how different her body was, how much biggerit was, even now with most of her weight slumped against the table. She was soaked in sweat, body hot and flushed. Her belly continued to throb with uncomfortable, exacerbating pressure, but the apex of her discomfort was shifting.
“I dunnoo…” Olivia slurred, eyes unfocused. Every person in the room was completely gobsmacked. “It hasn’t…um…b-been the easiest pr-preg — oooh noo, oh god…”
Something had been triggered in her breasts, because they were rapidly filling with a burning, heavy, wetness, and her nipples were swelling to outrageous degrees. “Fuhhhh…” Her bra was pinching into her swelling flesh, the mounds getting fatter, denser, and painfully tight. Her hands started helplessly scrabbling with her collar. “Nrrggggghhh…!” she was going to bust right out of her clothing. “I c-can’t—” was the last thing Olivia managed to say, before everything went black.
-
Olivia awoke slowly.
She stared dazedly up at the ceiling for a while. Finally, her eyes shifted to the side, taking in the monitor and IV stand, tubes leading down to the inside of her elbow. She registered the large, elevated bed, the crisp white sheets, and patterned cotton draped over her. She was in the hospital.
Then she remembered.
Olivia whispered a curse.
She had fainted in the middle of the meeting! Just when she’d thought her luck couldn’t get any worse!
Olivia fumbled on the bed, her body feeling lethargic and strange. She looked at the mountain of sheets piled on her torso, shoving them aside, to find that the mountain was her. Her breathing thinned as she took in the overwhelming state of her body. Her belly was positively huge. She looked like she could have been overdue fucking quads!
By impulse, her hands rubbed over the taut, swollen mass. The hospital gown she was wearing could not properly accommodate her, her belly pushing out under the hem and leaving her panties is exposed.
Her breasts were aching. They were full and round, seeping freely. Her nipples were as big as coke caps, breasts the size of cantaloupes. She felt absolutely ludicrous and she couldn’t believe how much she had blown up. She looked beyond pregnant; like some anomaly by then. She grimaced and shifted, getting her elbows against the mattress. God, she was huge. And she had no clue how she was supposed to explain any of this away.
As Olivia was struggling to get into a sitting position, the door to her hospital room swung open, and a doctor walked in. “Take it easy,” he urged, coming over and pressing a button on the side of her bed. It slowly shifted her upright with a mechanical hum.
Panting heavily, Olivia looked up at him. “I — I need to get back to work,” she managed.
“You need to rest,” the doctor countered, and Olivia could see the idle way that his eyes trailed over her, perplexed. It was at least an improvement on her colleagues. “Work can wait,” he added.
“No it can’t,” Olivia protested, again struggling to shift her weight as she tried to move to the edge of the bed. She felt like she had a pile of bricks pinning her down. “It’s the whole reason I did all this. There’s no point if I don’t get back to —”
“Miss, you have to calm down. Think of the babies.”
Olivia froze. She looked at the doctor in bafflement, certain she had misheard him. After all, he was a medical professional. He had to have done her bloodwork by now. He would know this whole thing was a farce.
“I know you’re in your fourth month, but it can still be dangerous to—”
“Fourth month?” Olivia parroted with growing horror.
“You…didn’t know?” said the physician with a frown. “Well, the confusion is…er…understandable.” Again, his gaze darted to her huge belly. “Yes, you’re a little into your second trimester. While we have not been able to perform a sonogram because of the, erm, weight concentration in your abdomen, based on hormone levels, we highly suspect multiples. All things considered, your vitals are excellent. Going forward, I would like to…”
Olivia felt like passing out again.
This couldn’t be happening. No way. She had noticed a couple of missed periods, but that was fairly normal for her.
And Mike always used protection. She had drilled it into his head over their years of fooling around. He was always so careful and she always reminded him…but maybe not lately, with the promotion, all her binge-eating, the new house and car, trying to juggle everything… She wasn’t even sure of how careful Mike may or may not have been in recent months. It wasn’t as though he had any incentive to wear a rubber when he thought she was already knocked up.
“I want an abortion,” Olivia blurted, cutting off whatever the young doctor was blathering on about.
He frowned. “That would be…rather dangerous, Ms. Waters. To be frank, you are morbidly obese, and at your stage, we cannot go forward with an abortion unless you lost a substantial amount of weight. Even then, the cutoff is eighteen weeks. You are already past sixteen. I’m afraid you’re going to be having this baby.”
This couldn’t be happening.
It just couldn’t. Be. Happening.
“Of course, there are other options. Have you considered adoption?”
Mike would never let her get away that. He would take the kid himself, and she would have to endure it lurking around in the periphery of her life as he guilted her about it continuously. There would be custody hearings, child support demands—and god, what would Nana think!?
No, this thing was going to be in her life forever. Not unless she ran off and disappeared, abandoning everything she had built here.
And now the more immediate issues started to stack up. How was she going to be able to hand this pregnancy, physically? She was already fucking huge! If she grew any more, she would be more belly than person! Four months? That was only the beginning. She wasn’t even halfway through. That meant that, at present, her pregnancy was hardly showing.
Olivia looked down at her belly, completely overwhelmed. There was a creature growing inside of her, and there was nothing she could do to stop it. “Fuck,” she whispered. And it was apt.
She was fucked.
