Alex's latest payment was double what she usually received.
She was decidedly pleased. Her covert employers must have been satisfied with her outcomes. After all, Violet had truly "blossomed." Her growth was obvious and quite pronounced.
Accompanying Alex's bonus was a small typewritten note that read, good work. God, this was exciting. Alex was getting paid generously and all she had to do was blow Violet up like a balloon.
Ironically, in the days that followed, things abruptly slowed down. Or perhaps the slowdown was imagined. Alex simply felt as though Violet was now growing at a painfully slow pace. If at all.
Violet was getting accustomed to the mound. Adapting to it in a resigned, complacent way. She bought bigger tops and always donned a jacket or sweater. The swollen protrusion of her belly from her otherwise slim form just became a normal part of her life.
Alex continued her documentation, her payments went back to normal, and everything was fine...albeit rather boring and tame. Weeks went by, and Violet just became that mildly chubby girl who people couldn't be bothered to tease anymore. Alex wondered if Violet had developed a tolerance to the drug.
Alex was flipping channels in the living room one evening when she came across a commercial that gave her pause.
"Lactalyz," a female voice chimed gently. The pictured showed a woman in a bath robe sipping tea. "An herbal remedy for new mothers who need a little help when it comes to nursing."
The commercial ended but Alex didn't notice the ones that followed.
What if she...no...that would be interfering. But the outcome—it might help. Things might develop.
Her employer might be pleased.
After another moment's hesitation, Alex got on her laptop and went to the Lactalyz company website. She ordered a canister of the drug then contemplated whether or not this was a good idea all over again.
The herb took only two days to arrive. Alex was expecting it to come as tea bags, but it arrived in the form of a powdery white substance.
Without really thinking about it, Alex dumped a generous amount into Violet's protein mix.
Well, it was more of a diet shake mix now. Violet had started drinking them religiously, twice a day, in hopes of eradicating the belly. It decidedly wasn't having much of an effect.
Alex had just managed to shove away the remainder of the Lactalyz in the back corner of her cupboard, when Violet came out of her room, yawning, still recovering from a late night of studying. Alex couldn’t help staring at the way Violet's shirt stretched over her prominent belly button-nipple—thing.
"Hey," said Violet, her belly bobbing slightly as she went straight to the protein canister on the counter, not even questioning why it was out of her cupboard. Violet took out the scooper and proceeded to make herself a protein shake with some whole milk found in the back of the fridge.
"Hey," said Alex belatedly. She watched Violet drink the shake.
Alex knew she was overstepping. This certainly wasn't part of the deal. Her employers might get upset with her; even fire her for exposing Violet to something they hadn't specifically prescribed.
But then, they might be pleased. They might give Alex another bonus, even a raise.
The herb could also have no effect whatsoever. As Alex saw things, the potential benefits outweighed the risks.

Violet groaned.
Her face was flushed. Her whole body felt unnaturally warm. Especially her...midsection.
It was uncomfortable and felt weirdly bloated, like her belly had turned into an overfilled balloon, tender and bobbing while accommodating the heat and pressure.
"Oohhh..." Violet moaned, pausing to cradle the mound, and stabilize it a bit. Luckily the apartment was empty at the moment, Alex in a class. Violet took several long breaths of air, closing her eyes as she shifted and arched, then grimaced at the weirdly arousing sensation of her belly button dragging across her shirt. She had already gotten off twice that morning.
Violet opened her eyes and glanced around, just to be sure the apartment was empty. She lightly shook her head and lifted her shirt, allowing it to sit bunched atop her plump belly. She frowned down at the mass, just the—oddness of it. The way it protruded out from her otherwise slim form. And her bellybutton, which had gotten dark and pink, felt incredibly tender, and had somehow swollen to the size of a golf ball. Honestly, it didn't even look like a belly button anymore. It looked like something else entirely. Violet gulped and continued to regard herself.
She had been so optimistic. Her weight had stabilized for a few weeks there. But then out of nowhere it had started to surge again. She was getting fuller, rounder, but also heavier and tighter, which was just unusual. Her belly button had a puffy pink plate of flesh around it, and if she wasn't certain it sounded insane, she would admit that her abdomen had somehow come to resemble a...well—a giant breast. But that was just ridiculous. Wasn't it? Violet was truly at a loss of what to think of all this.
The sensitivity had only intensified. Violet hesitated, then tentatively reached down, carefully stroking the protruding pink nub. Her whole body stiffened and trembled, her breath catching. She glided her fingers over it again, an unintentional moan coming up her throat. She leaned on the wall for support and took a moment to catch her breath.
She really should have consulted a physician, but things were just...embarrassing, by then.
And god her belly button ached to be touched. Violet found herself fondling it again, humming and arching as the nub stung, and...reacted. It actually began to harden. No way was that normal. "Oh god," she breathed, rubbing her fingers around the distended protrusion. "‘the hell is wrong with me?" she groaned as she shoved her free hand into her skirt.
-
Alex got another bonus.
Things were decidedly going well.
Violet had reacted better than expected to the herb. Now not only was she plump, but bloated as well.
It was surreal to think that the other youth's belly was likely full of milk. Milk Violet's own body had made and was now stretching her to clear discomfort.
Alex snapped out of her reverie as Violet's bedroom door opened.
Violet cupped her belly as she waddled out, no longer caring that another might see the awkward gesture of Violet trying to stabilize her plump, bobbing mound.
Her belly-nipple was even more distended than it had been before. It was bulging and swollen, god, everything was swollen. Even her small chest seemed a little bigger, now.
Violet's cheeks were pink from the exertion or heat.
Alex glued her eyes to the TV and pretended to be absorbed in the movie playing even though she was hyper-conscious of Violet, who was lumbering over in Alex's periphery.
The couch shifted as Violet plopped down on the opposite end with a groan.
Alex pretended only then to notice her. "Hey Vye."
"What're you watching?" said Violet, reaching into a paper bag she had set on the coffee table. She pulled out a fistful of fries.
"Revengers," Alex nodded to the costumed characters. "Heard this one was good."
"Sure looks good," said Violet as she eyed the muscular, spandex-clad men frolicking about on the screen. The two young women quieted as the movie proceeded, silent except for the noise of Violet munching on her two phili-cheesesteaks. Then her slurping as she gulped down her extra-large chocolate shake.
That’s when it happened. Violet was taking a particularly long draw from her straw, when she released another grunt, and a damp plot began to materialize on her stretched T-shirt. She pushed some fries into her mouth, hardly seeming to notice. "So much for the diet," she mumbled as she fidgeted, scrunching her face up. Her hand crept up to her gut. She winced and looked down. "Crap. Must have spilled something."
Alex's heart was pounding. She fought not to snap her head towards the growing stain on Violet's shirt, and gawk. Because if she wasn't mistaken, Violet was actually leaking.
Violet heaved herself off the couch with some effort before heading towards the bathroom. "What the hell?" Alex heard her muttering as the door snapped shut. The was the shuffling of cloth followed by the sound of skin sliding over skin.
And complete silence.
Alex could feel her heart throbbing in her throat.
When the bathroom door creaked open again, there was a long pause preceding Violet's heavy footfalls. She was pale when she reappeared in the living room. Alex gave her a thoughtful once-over, making sure not to linger on the way Violet's belly-nipple looked even more prominent as it bulged against the damp spot on Violet's shirt, the moisture steadily seeping down, trailing along the underside of Violet's belly.
"Hey, you okay?" Alex managed as nonchalantly as she could. "Why do you look so freaked out?" It was a struggle but Alex kept her gaze on Violet's face and feigned to be as oblivious as ever.
"I...er..." Violet was breathing heavily. She wiped her hand down her face. "Nothing," she concluded, as she made her way to her bedroom, the remainders of her takeout left forgotten.
As the door slammed shut behind Violet, Alex hesitated, then snagged a french fry.
-
Violet stared at her mound, shirt bunched atop so it was left to protrude freely, all full and flushed. And warm.
Violet couldn't deny that she actually looked pregnant.
And pretty far along. The way her aunt had looked a couple months before she gave birth.
On top of that, she had to deal with the weird swollen pink growth that had once been her belly button, and the fact that it was now dripping a warm white fluid that could only be... It was foolish to keep denying it. Some way, somehow, her formerly lean abdomen had been transformed into a giant breast.
It was ridiculous. Ludicrous. Violet had to be asleep or high.
And yet she was dripping, right there, at present, making a small puddle on her bedroom floor. This was insane. "What the hell?" she whispered again, shaking her head.
She was almost scared to move. The nub leaked regardless.
-
Violet shuffled around the apartment with awkwardness.
She skipped a bunch of her classes that week and didn't seem to know what to do with herself.
She was still clearly shaken, still swollen and engorged. She bundled herself up in layers of shirts and sweaters, but there was still that perpetual damp spot where milk seeped through. Alex doggedly pretended not to notice.
Sometimes it was a necessity. It was all Alex could do not to lose control. Just the sight of Violet's fat mound was too much for her. Violet's plump belly was full of milk, so full the milk was seepingout of her. God, it was so weird and so…hot.
Alex would see Violet on the phone at night, mound perched against her thighs as she tried to appease her family. "I'm sorry, I just can't make it this time. I have two papers due that Monday." She breathed heavily, absently rubbing her chest with the heel of her hand.
Violet was avoiding her family. Alex couldn't blame her. Violet’s form was unquestionably odd. The leaking appeared to be continuous.
Violet hung up her phone with a sigh. She looked up to see Alex innocently withdrawing a beer from the fridge. They caught eyes. Alex belatedly averted hers.
"God, I'm suffocated." Violet tugged at her top layer sweater, which was looking so snug, it probably wasn't serving its intended purpose. Alex could make out the sharp protrusion of Violet's navel just fine.
"Hey, is everything alright with you?" asked Alex as airily as she could.
Violet paused, her cheeks flushing deeper. "I uh...gained weight. You probably don't notice that much since we live together, but if my parents see me, they're just gonna freak out." She absently held the side of her belly, frowning off, then returning her attention to Alex.
Alex swallowed, then said, "Seriously? Guess it's time to cut the carbs." She forced a laugh.
"Yeah..." said Violet, even though both knew that her efforts to diet hadn't worked in the least. "It’s not as easy as it sounds."
Then Violet spontaneously leaked. More accurately, she poured into her shirt until the hem started to drip and Violet released a curse.
In that moment, Alex lost every fraction of her carefully honed control. She dropped to her knees before the swollen mound. She shoved the fabric roughly away, then felt herself leaning down to press her lips against the stiff, pink nub.
Violet gasped.
