Valerie was introducing progressively larger foods for Tori to consume, and Tori was not sure how she felt about it, but she noticed a corresponding increase in her capacity as well as her appetite when the time came.
It was a week after the ostrich eggs that Tori’s hunger had returned.
Her body had reverted to its previous state, though perhaps her stomach was no longer concave or even flat, it seemed slightly fuller, in a healthy but unnoticeable way. She knew she was putting on weight. Wilson would be pleased to see it when he returned.
That day Valerie took Tori outside.
It was rather exhilarating, if just because Tori had never been allowed outside on the property before that day. The house was in a remote, wooded area, and tall, thick hedges concealed the house from any potential spies, yet Wilson had still always insisted that Tori remain indoors. Weird as Valerie was, she offered freedoms Tori had yet to experience in her present state.
The evening air felt cool and inviting as it prickled against Tori’s skin, her arm hairs rising against the brisk feel of it. She followed Valerie around the house, where Tori appreciated the expansiveness of the lawns in ways that she couldn’t when she looked down from the windows. It felt liberating; like her world was steadily opening up piece by piece.
But then there was the growing preoccupation of her hunger.
“Here it is,” said Valerie as the two entered the backyard, and Tori laid her eyes on the rare sight of a chicken coup. Valerie laughed at Tori’s raised brows. “Yeah, we got everything set up quickly. And it’s just for you.”
Tori could hear chickens clucking inside. Two or so of them were actually walking about, scraping their feet into the grass.
“We have yet to introduce a rooster,” Valerie went on. “Thought I’d warn you first. They can be a bit loud in the mornings. Nice little wakeup call.”
“Valerie…” said Tori uneasily. She could feel herself salivating in the presence of the animals, and at the thought of fresh eggs.
“It’s too early for new eggs,” Valerie went on flippantly. “But the chicks hatched.” Valerie led Tori around the coup, where several little yellow poofs of feathers were running around, often trailing one of the hens.
Tori stared. The chicks were terribly cute. And yet the guilt that came with each live feeding was getting weaker and weaker. She was becoming accustomed to her animal instincts. Submitting to them.
“Think you can catch one?” said Valerie.
Tori was fast. She swooped down and snatched a chick easily, squeezing it in her fist.
She had been eating birds for a while. She had no issues digesting the feathers these days. And so she arched her neck, opened her mouth wide, and dropped the chick inside.
Valerie stood there and watched happily as Tori gulped down the dozen or so chicks. When Tori finished them all, she hardly felt sated. The chicks felt like nothing in her stomach and she required something heavier to get through another week of fasting. She was just about to ask Valerie whether there were any ostrich eggs left, when Valerie started to walk again. “Come see what I have in the shed.”
Tori was led to a deeper corner of the yard, where a large shed appeared to have been built recently. It resembled a small barn, and made Tori rather bemused that a scientific facility would segue not only into a home, but also a place of farming and agriculture.
The door hung open, and the surroundings were dirty. Tori wrinkled her nose as her tail dragged through several inches of mud.
“Take a look inside,” said Valerie, looking ecstatic.
Tori did so, and was rewarded with a mixture of thrill and disgust.
Pigs.
Well, one huge, disgusting, big one. The type of pig that intimidated in its sheer fatness and dirtiness. The thing was monstrously plump, sprawled on its side, snorting, just a horrible lump of pink and brown. It was so heavy, Tori couldn’t imagine how it could move.
It was nursing a large litter of piglets. There must have been a dozen of them, all sucking and snorting, fighting over their mother’s teats.
“Time to expand your diet,” said Valerie, causing Tori to grimace.
“I…I’m alright,” said Tori, even as her stomach clenched in hunger. She was decidedly grossed out. “When will Wilson be back?”
“No clue,” said Valerie. “You have to eat Tori.”
Tori didn’t think she could. They were baby animals, and so were the chicks, but—weren’t pigs supposed to be really intelligent? Pigs were mammalian, too similar to humans in their smooth softness, and it was all rather queasy.
“How is it any different from the mice?” Valerie challenged. “Fill that belly of yours.”
Tori supposed there wasn’t really a difference. She was just being a hypocrite, still adjusting, trying to figure out this snake diet and all that it incorporated. “Let me think on it.” Tori slithered off before Valerie could protest further.
But Tori didn’t last long. She already had a growing obsession with the piglets, how fatty and soft they each looked, how filling. Her hunger consumed her, and even when she went back into the house, and found some hen eggs buried in the back of the fridge, she could not stop thinking about how succulent the piglets had looked.
She opened the front door and slithered onto the porch, half-expecting alarm bells to go off, but nothing even stirred. She wondered if this was a new precedent—going outside on her own, getting a snack from the hen house or the shed. Maybe so, at least when Wilson wasn’t around.
Tori wandered a bit, sliding around the property, until she finally found her way back to the shed. She fleetingly wondered where Valerie had gotten to, if she was lurking around somewhere, but it was hard to focus on anything else aside from the growing tension in her chest and wetness in her mouth.
The sow was unconscious. Didn’t even notice as Tori leaned down and plucked a piglet off her teat.
The piglet squealed and snorted, and Tori almost pitied it, but then she was stuffing it into her mouth without really thinking, sucking it into her throat, where it squished down, stretching her, and leaving her without air for those few exhilarating seconds before it was being forced deeper, through her chest, and farther, and it wasn’t even all that bad. It was soft, squishy, and fat, not a hard unyielding mass like the ostrich eggs had been. And yet it was heavier, denser, more filling. Tori heard herself whimper when it finally dropped into her stomach. She felt a squirm. God, the thing was still alive. She shuddered and flushed, and leaned heavily on the shed wall.
It took her a few moments to collect her composure. By then the movement was gone, and she wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing. She drew a long breath and smiled slightly.
Then she reached down to grab another piglet. She stuffed it hungrily between her lips.
-
Tori always got the best naps after feeding, and she always awoke feeling great.
It was dark in her room, and she could tell it was evening. She shifted slightly in her bed, her hands unconsciously sliding down to examine her stomach. They met with a sizeable bump. She didn’t remember how many piglets she had swallowed down, probably at least half of the litter. They had been small; newborn. But they had still stretched her out in a simultaneously pleasant and uncomfortable way. She was still full and firm at that moment, back to looking as though she six months pregnant, which was both amusing and odd.
She arched her back, allowing her belly to push out and stretch more, basking in the pressure. She didn’t know what it was about feeding that was so pacifying and pleasurable, but she could get used to this. Yes, she certainly could.
Though she had already slept away half the day, Tori allowed her eyelids to droop. It wasn’t as though she had much to do or was getting any complaints. She knew her bump would be softer and smaller by morning as her body digested its contents. It would be completely gone in another day or so.
-
When Tori awoke the following day, the bump indeed was softer, though it didn’t appear to have shrunk. She was hardly bothered by this, so shrugged it off, got washed up, and left her room.
She wore just a bandeau top, as she often did, but now her meal was on display, and she felt at a cross between proud and embarrassed.
“Enjoyed the piglets, I see,” said Valerie cheekily when they crossed paths in the living room.
“Yeah…” said Tori. She settled herself on the couch.
“There’s plenty more for your next feeding. But gee, they grow so fast.”
“Hm,” was Tori’s only response.
Indeed, there were more piglets. That was something to look forward to. But how fast could they possibly grow that it would warrant concern? Tori thought of the size of the mother sow and winced.
It took another day for her to develop a constant preoccupation with the piglets, even though it wasn’t time for a feeding. Her belly was still bloated round from her last meal. This time it just wouldn’t go down, but she was neutral about it. She didn’t mind the sight of her rounded abdomen, as much as it stuck out on her slim form.
Tori realized the more she ate, the more her thoughts seemed to revolve around food, and the more she obsessed or craved it even when she didn’t need it. In another two days, she started to feel the first niggles of hunger, though it wasn’t time to feed yet, not quite. It was early after all, only four days after her last meal, which had been her biggest yet.
She wondered if she was stretching her stomach, allowing for greater capacity and need during each subsequent meal. Perhaps it was something to be concerned with. Still, Tori found herself slithering off to the shed in the backyard, just to fulfill a curiosity. Just to see what was going on.
She was surprised to see for herself how much the remaining piglets had grown. They were visibly fatter, and seemed to be continually sucking on their mother’s teats. Perhaps the absence of competition from the six of their siblings Tori had eaten earlier had paved the way for them to truly indulge, because each piglet looked as though it had had a growth spurt.
Tori was not sure how she was going to get them down if they grew anymore. Perhaps the piglets necessitated separation from their food source—that being their mother—though that idea seemed unnatural and barbaric. They were just piglets, after all. They were supposed to feed, and grow.
Yet they couldn’t be allowed to grow anymore. They already appeared to be the largest things she would attempt to eat, and she feared it would be too much.
I should eat them now, Tori reasoned. Before it becomes a problem. It made sense.
So she did just that.
She stuffed down all six of the remaining piglets, wincing as each one stretched her throat, groaning as they hit her stomach one by one, stretching out the already bloated organ, her belly inching forward as she breathed heavily and poured sweat.
The sow blinked around, dazed and confused, wondering what had happened to her babies.
Tori leaned heavily on the wall, moaning quietly, fingers gently cradling her belly. She swore, she looked as though she was eight months pregnant, gut tight and packed, the faintest sensation of movement still twitching within it. “Nghhhh…” She couldn’t believe she’d done that. She hadn’t been able to stop herself. Not until each and every one had been consumed.
She needed to lie down. Tori flinched as a sharp stinging shot through her side. She needed to relax and digest a bit. Tori slowly slithered back to the house, and fortunately did not bump into Valerie as she made her way to her bedroom. She eased herself down, panting quietly, rubbing her flushed mound. It shuddered. She grunted.
Finally, she closed her eyes.
-
The hunger was always brimming under her skin now. Food was becoming a constant preoccupation. Tori tried to sort through her feelings, though it was hard to determine what was best for her versus what was just instinctive. Valerie only encouraged Tori’s new behaviors, though it couldn’t be sensible for Tori to be obsessing over future meals and filling her already-packed gut.
But then, there was no precedence for this. What was considered normal conduct for a snake-girl anyway?
When Wilson returned, he was surprised by the rounded state of Tori’s abdomen. “Ah, did you feed today?” he asked.
“No,” Tori admitted.
“Yesterday?” said Wilson.
Valerie came to join them by the threshold, looking smug as ever.
“No,” said Tori.
Wilson’s brows shot up and Tori considered that maybe she was putting on too much weight after all.
