You seem agitated, Jim.
Jim noticed that he was shaking his leg. He stilled the limb and straightened in his seat. No. Not agitated. Nervous, maybe. Excited?
Did something happen? said Dr. Capello, her eyes inquisitive beyond her rectangular frames.
Jim hesitated. How does this doctor-patient confidentiality thing work? What are the exceptions, I mean?
Dr. Capellos expression did not change. She was Jims therapist of two months so far, and Jim appreciated her emotionless style of counselling. She didnt go out of her way to coddle and comfort, she just neutrally listened and helped him rationalize things. To put it simply, I cannot repeat anything you say in these sessions unless I am required to by lawfor example, under oathor if I feel there is a risk of harm to you, myself, or anyone else
There isnt, Jim cut in, and he heard the edge of desperation in his voice. He took a deep, calming breath. I mean, I didnt do anything wrong. It was all consensual and, I um, I had no control over the consequences.
Dr. Capello lowered her notepad, giving Jim her full attention. Why dont you tell me what happened. Start from the beginning.
Jim leaned back, steeling himself. He rested his elbow on the arm of the chair, and his chin in his hand. He gazed off, not seeing, just reflecting. I went out last weekend. I never go out. But my divorce was finalized, so I figured, why not? It was only supposed to be one drink he trailed off.
Go on, said Capello.
Jim glanced at her. He swallowed. I got wasted. I must have been at that bar for hours. The later it got, the more crowded it became. There were a bunch of these preppy kids. College age, maybe early twenties. Me and one of them got talking. Well, we did more than talk.
Thats good, said Capello, not insisting, just noting. You and your wife have been separated for over a year. Its good to finally put back yourself back out there.
Right, said Jim uneasily. A hasty bathroom hookups gotta count for something. He looked at Capello for her reaction. As usual, there was none.
Go on, she said.
I didnt use protection, Jim said in a rushed breath. I wasnt exactly prepared, and both of us were too drunk to really care. The next day, I felt really bad, considering mymy unique ability. I could barely even remember what the kid looked like, not until Monday morning when I went into work. God, I could never forget those huge brown eyes.
You saw her again? At your job? said Capello. It seemed she couldnt help herself because she picked up her notepad and began to scribble on it.
Him, Jim corrected. He had already told Capello about his bisexuality, though both knew he had not been with a man in quite some time.
I see, said Dr. Capello. A new colleague?
An intern. Working directly beneath me.
I understand how this could be awkward for you. Did you confront him?
Jim huffed a laugh. No. He didnt even recognize me. He just shook my hand, got my coffee, and ran around all day trying to please me. Hes trying to get a job offer.
Oh yes, said Capello. I remember my own internship days. The fond memories. But her lips didnt even twitch, and she looked completely indifferent. If this intern doesnt remember you, I fail to see what the issue is. Does his presence make you uncomfortable?
Not even close, said Jim breathlessly. He tried to maintain control of himself, but he could feel heat pooling low in his stomach. This is a whole fuckingrabbit hole, Im afraid. But I have an unusual affliction.
The one you referenced a moment ago, said Capello, as Jim gave a stiff nod. Is it an STI? Is it serious?
Its not a disease. More of a unique trait about me. Dr. Capello, Ive had unprotected sex with men before, and it always results in pregnancy. Every time. Not only that, but I seem to make really large babies. Sometimes multiples. Its bizarre, but Im freakishly fertile.
It was the first time he had fazed her. Capello stared at him with wide round eyes.
After a moment, she gathered her composure and cleared her throat. Male pregnancy is extremely rare. The rate has to be one in a million
Actually, its one in seven million, said Jim. And yes, I know its rare. But that doesnt change the fact that I um I have that abilitygift, or curse, or whatever you might consider it. Theres no question that this intern is pregnant, and, and he doesnt know whats going on. He doesnt even know its mine. And hes going to start growing soon, just based on based on past experience. Jim could feel his cock hardening. He crossed his leg to hide it. He didnt know what the fuck was wrong with him. Hence the need for therapy.
Dr. Capello was silent for a moment. There were others?
One in high school, said Jim uneasily. Some in college. I was a kid. And an idiot. I didnt know what the hell was going on. Most of the guys I got pregnant dropped out of school and gave the babies up for adoption. One guy moved away, and I never heard from him again. I didnt even know about some of the pregnancies until much later. Male pregnancy has a stigma against it. Its embarrassing. I mean, I was closeted myself at the time, I cant imagine trying to do that on top of growing a huge belly. Not that I ever bottom, he added as an after-thought.
So what are you going to do?
I dont know. Im his boss. If HR finds out we were involved, theyre cutting him loose. They might not keep him at all once they find out hes pregnant. Its fucked up, but lets get real. This is corporate America. Hes just an intern.
Capello mutely nodded. Okay, she said as she thought for a moment. Jim, lets imagine there are none of these barriers. There are no conflicts of interest or company policies that restricted the relationship. Perhaps hes not even an intern for your company, but you still have some sort of regular contact with him. What would you do in that case?
Nothing, said Jim, staring at his intertwined hands. It came out as a whisper, and Jim hated himself for saying it, but it was completely true. I would do nothing but watch him get fat with my child. Watch him struggle, and panic, and strain under his condition. I dont want anything to do with the baby, I just want to see him grow, and know that Im the one who did it to him. It wasnt malice. It wasnt even indifference. It was pure, indulgent, hedonism. He hadnt knocked the intern up on purpose, but that didnt mean it wouldnt get him off.
Capello was momentarily at a loss for words. Where are these feelings coming from? she wanted to know.
I dont know, Jim murmured reflectively. Somewhere sick, I think.
-
Jim was a fit guy. He wasnt anally retentive, but he liked to take care of his body. He usually spent an hour at the gym on weekdays before work, and if he was pressed for time, he would just do some weights at home. Following a quick shower, he would get dressed, then drive in to the corporate office at which he worked, where his parking spot said HOCH in big bold letters on the asphalt.
Jim was tall and broad. He had a lean build, maybe a little buff. His suits were perfectly tailored to show off his hard work. Not that he was trying to show off per se. If just felt good to feel good.
Jim took a seat at his desk that morning, running his hand along the polished mahogany. His intercom buzzed. Mr. Hoch, sir, Reynolds is on line 1 for you, said his assistant, Veronica.
Can you tell him Im out sick today?
Yes sir. And as a reminder, you have a lunch meeting with Burke.
Can you get rid of that as well? Lately, Jim just wanted to maximize his time in the office.
Understood. Lastly, your ex-wife called in inquire about when youre going to pick up the dog. She leaves for Cabo at noon.
Jim finally lifted his gaze from his desk. Damn. Veronica, can you take care of that for me?
A pause. As you know, Ill be logging the rest of your written claims into the new system. The deadline is
Right, right. Im sorry, V. Dont let me bother you. Im sure we can get an intern or two to cover for you this week.
A snort. Two, if were being realistic. Ill make the necessary arrangements.
Youre a dream.
You know Ioh, excuse me, sir. It appears that someone is here to see you.
What?
But his office door was already opening, and in walked Rosco, his golden retriever, who immediately started to jump at him, getting its paws all over his trousers, but Jim didnt mind. Jim rubbed Roscos fur enthusiastically as a brown-eyed young man followed the dog into the room.
I picked up your dog, said the intern, sounding a little breathless. He walked over and handed Jim a cup of coffee. The paperwork on the Walters case is finished. I just need you to sign off on it.
Jim smelled the hot coffee in his hands. Freshly ground caturra beans with no cream or sugar. Just the way he liked it. You must have been here early, he noted.
I like to get an early start on the day, said the intern.
Jim finally lifted his gaze to the other man, and met his eyes. Swallowed.
Ryan Smith was one of the newest interns at the office. He was young, slim, energetic, and ambitious. He was very clear about his goals of becoming an agent with the organization, and seemed to thrive in the competitive spirit of the business. In the short time he had been with the company, he had far surpassed the other interns in work quality and efficiency.
But not for much longer.
Jims gaze dropped from the young mans face. Ryans button-down was looking a little tighter on him than usual. Ryan was still breathing heavily, his chest rising and falling. He seemed tired lately, as though his body was no longer keeping up with his demands; with his constant forward momentum.
Excellent work, Smith.
Thanks, sir. Ryan scratched his stomach. Jims eyes flicked to follow the motion. Seeming to notice the absent gesture, Ryan stopped and lowered his hand. Is there anything else I can do for you?
Jims mouth went dry, but he tried to gather himself. You can check with Veronica. She would know better than me.
No problem. Ryan turned to leave. His ass was gorgeous. It looked fuller than that night Jim had pounded into it when theyd met at that bar. It had filled out recently. Now it was snug in his pants, looking supple and perfect. Jim found himself staring until the door closed behind Ryan.
-
Sometimes Ryan would throw Jim a speculative look. As though he suspected he knew him from somewhere else, but couldnt put his finger on it. Sometimes Jim worried that Ryan was beginning to realize.
Mmghh. Ryan shot up to his feet, looking panicked. Everyone turned to stare at him. They were in the middle of a meeting that Ryan had been invited to sit in on. The invitation in itself was auspicious. People wanted Ryan in the know. He was the top candidate from the intern pool to be a new hire.
Ryan stood frozen for a moment, his hand hovering over his mouth. He slowly lowered it, looking pale. Im sorry, he managed, and he even looked as though she might sit back down. But then his eyes widened and he held his stomach, before he raced out of the room. It seemed to Jim that he was headed in the direction of the bathroom.
Morning sickness, Jim realized. He didnt know why it turned him on, but it did. Ryan was puking his guts out, which was a decidedly unattractive action. But for Jim, just knowing that it was his fault was arousing. He had done this to Ryan.
Interns, Bob said, breaking the tension. There were chuckles. Probably just remembered my dry cleaning.
Someone snorted. They gathered up their pens and the meeting resumed.
