David still had keys to his ex-girlfriends apartment.
Lana had asked him to drop them off, but she probably hadnt anticipated that he would do so, at three in the morning, while she was fast asleep, and he was hoovering over her unconscious form.
David glared hatefully down at Lana, a syringe clenched in his hand.
She had cheated on him repetitively for the entirety of their two-year relationship. Every time he forgave her, she seemed to just do it again twice more. It was like she had been testing him, pushing the limits of what he was capable of tolerating. He knew now that she had always been looking for an escape. But he had been so in love with her. It had been a cruel, drawn-out process of breaking him to pieces.
Of course, Lana had kicked him to the curb on their second year anniversary. He supposed it had taken her the whole two years to build up the courage to do so.
After two years of birthdays, valentines days, date nights, family dinners, holidays, and spending almost all of their free time together, David found himself newly single, and Lana hadnt had one shred of remorse. In fact, he had seen her out with one of his longtime friends just days following the breakup.
Lana had pushed him to the breaking point. She needed to be punished for all the time she had stolen; for rending his heart and leaving him broken.
So with a raw, cold-hearted fury, David lifted the needle and plunged it into Lanas arm.
Lana didnt even wake up. Even in her sleep, she was so blithe and indifferent. She twitched, and scrunched her face, but continued to sleep like a log.
Davids heart was pounding as he pushed the remainder of the chemical into Lanas system. He was a scientist and worked in genetic engineering. He had only recently concocted the sample: something extremely experimental and potentially nasty. The serum sample could have won him the nobel prize after another decade of tinkering and grooming it into medical usefulness. But of course, he was squandering it on her.
As David withdrew the needle, he felt a surge of panic at what he had done. Oh god, he whispered, shaking slightly. With that, he turned away from the scene, and fled, hoping that the impact of the drug would be innocuous.
In his haste, he left the keys in the lock of her door.
-
Thats odd, Lana remarked the following day as she spotted the keys. She absently scratched her ribs. Why would he leave them there? Someone could have broken in. She sighed and shook her head as she retrieved the keys from her door lock. Clearly David was still upset with her. Of course, they had only broken up two weeks before.
Lana went about her day, getting ready for work, grabbing an apple on her way out the door. She worked as a discreet security guard, which mostly meant she just worked the front desk of an attorneys office and didnt have to dress like a rent-a-cop to boot.
Over the course of the day, Lana continued to absently scratch at her ribs. She had a headache and felt hot, almost feverish. She could feel herself sweating through her blouse, so pulled a blazer on. She didnt even entertain the concept of going home sick. She knew what a big case the partners were working on.
Her headache seemed focused at two points at the edge of her hairline, directly above each of her eyes. Throughout the day, she felt sick, hungry, and rather itchy, and began to wonder if she was getting a rash.
She was too fatigued to even check when she got home from work. She hastily gobbled down a couple of sandwiches she had gotten from the deli on the corner, before dropping to bed and rapidly falling asleep.
Lanas feelings of malaise continued throughout the week. It was a weird combination of symptoms that exacerbated at times and mitigated at others. The itchy feeling seemed to be continuous, and so was the hunger. She would have episodes of feeling flushed and overheated, then others of severe fatigue. Her body was achy, especially under her arms. Yet she didnt think that whatever she had was medically emergent or contagious.
It was two weeks following the start of her symptoms that Lana committed herself to not cancelling her latest date. At twenty-seven, she was too young to be in bed by eight every night. She refused to squander another evening submitting to her mild, if irritating, symptoms.
Lana donned a short, sexy, button-up dress. It was only as she regarded herself in her full-length mirror that she noticed the bloating.
Her breasts looked bigger. Lana paused to stare at, then admire them. They were fuller, and plump. It was evident that she had put on weight. But it looked good on her. Really good. Lana ran her hands over her chest, and shivered at the sensitivity. She hesitated and undid another of the top buttons, allowing her B-cups to really bulge out.
Her date was waiting at the bar of the restaurant when she arrived. His name was Jeremy, and he was dressed sharply. He worked in finance, which was a plus, though she supposed she wasnt looking for husband material.
You look gorgeous, he complemented, eyes trailing her athletic body.
The waiter got them seated promptly.
Lana was enjoying herself. The conversation was engaging, even if it often trailed off into beats of silence and staring. There was a lot of staring, and touching, hands or arms connecting, with subtlety and soon intention. The sexual chemistry was palpable, and Lana felt overheated. She excused herself to the bathroom, where she leaned back, breathed, and fanned herself. She fucking wanted him, and badly. But it wasnt just that. She felt like her skin was burning, like she was suffocating in her clothes. She tugged at the fabric; freed her breasts completely, as she panted, and fidgeted, rubbing at skin that was already tender from her continuous itching. She was surprised when she encountered a firm bump under her left arm. What the It felt like something was growing under her skin. She found an identical bump under her right arm, which calmed her slightly. She had never heard to tumors developing in parallel patterns. Lana examined herself in the mirror, eventually finding two tiny bumps on her head, hard like knots, at her hairline where she also experienced frequent aches and itchiness. She hesitated, and reached behind her to the small of her back, and unsurprisingly, found the largest lump of the five beneath the irritated skin there, right at her tailbone.
She wondered if it was some sort of allergic reaction to something. Thats it. Im definitely going to see my doctor tomorrow, she decided.
Lana tried to cool off. She would worry about this later. She had committed herself to her date, and she wasnt going home just because of a little allergy.
Lana shakily buttoned up her dress, knowing that it was somewhat damp with sweat by then. She went back to the table and daintily sat down, rubbing her thighs together, loins throbbing. Shall we get the check? she said, hoping he didnt hear the edge of desperation in her voice.
Jeremy hailed the waiter immediately.
-
Lana took him back to her house, and the two enjoyed a wild night of vigorous fucking. She felt as though she was in heat or something. She couldnt get enough of his cock, even when he was spent and practically pleading for a small reprieve.
Like magic, she always got him back up and at em.
She was beginning to feel quite impressed by her sex appeal.
In the morning, she awoke slowly, feeling absolutely luxurious, in fact, the best she had in weeks. She arched and stretched herself out limb by limb. To her delight, she could feel where the mattress sunk beside her, Jeremys body prone, face buried in a pillow. She was certain she could interest him in a morning fuck before work. She turned to face him, just as he lifted his face, parting his lips as though to greet her.
All of the sleepiness left Jeremys eyes. He sat bolt upright, then scrambled back until he fell out of the bed with an undignified oof!
Jeremy? She leaned over the edge to frown down at him. Are you alright?
Jeremy quickly scrambled even farther away, climbing clumsily to his feet in the process. Thoseare those things real? And last night, this whole thing isits just too freaky. Jeremy left in such a haste he couldnt even be bothered to grab his clothing, he just took a handful of the blanket he was already tangled in, held it to his junk, and scurried off.
What the fuck? said Lana, staring blankly at the door. What the hell is his problem? Frowning to herself, she got up.
Yawning, she padded her way to the bathroom, rubbing any remaining sleepiness from her eyes. She wasnt opposed to a one-night-stand, but Jeremy could have at least been polite about it. They were adults, not teenagers. He didnt have to scurry off. Wasnt like she would try to stop him.
Lana was midway through brushing her teeth when she took a glance up into her mirror, and nearly choked on toothpaste. She spat the froth in her mouth, her toothbrush clattering into the bowl of the sink.
What on earth? she whispered, finally realizing what had fueled Jeremys rapid departure.
On her head were two flesh-colored protrusions. They stuck up in the air and were balled at the end, resembling a pair of antenna, but this had to be some sort of joke. Lana reached out and touched them.
She shivered. They were so sensitive, the contact almost hurt. And they were undeniably attached to her. Growths, protruding flesh, possibly even containing bone.
It felt as though she couldnt breathe for a moment, as she stared, and she swore one of the things twitched slightly. She could feel the accompanying shiver of movement.
How much did I have to drink last night? Lana wondered, as she slid down the wall, face in her hands. But she was certain she hadnt even been tipsy. The antenna bounced and shivered with her movements. She began to wonder if she was still asleep.
Lana remained in that spot on the floor for a long time, not moving, just hunched forward with her face in her hands as she tried to get her heart to stop racing and her breaths to ease down to a normal rate. Truth be told, she was waiting to just wake up, but after what had to be an hour, nothing had changed. With extreme reluctance, she peeled her hands away from her face, not daring to explore, to tread higher to the edge of her scalp. She carefully got up, and again faced her mirror.
The antenna were still there. They looked even more vivid somehow. Perhaps longer, or darker? Lana bit hard on her grimace. She examined the mirror closely, for other symptoms, perhaps those of insanity. She thought her irises looked larger, taking up more of her eyes. She shifted somewhat, and thought the bumps on her flanks felt somewhat larger. They were protruding more, poking at the insides of her arms.
Lana dropped her robe. Did her breasts seem larger? She raised her arms, and stared at the reddened skin beneath them. The lumps were definitely larger, oddly distended. She felt one of the masses with her fingers, and grimaced. What she had expected to be mere flesh had the firmness of hard bone beneath it.
Im having a breakdown. Lana gathered up the robe and left the bathroom. She returned to her bedroom and fumbled with her cell phone for a moment, but her hands shook so much, she found herself dropping it to the bed.
If she went to the hospital for psychiatric reasons, she would have her weapons license revoked. She could lose her job and security license. Lana tried to stop and think things through. Maybe it will pass, she reasoned. Everyone has a minor breakdown every once in a blue moon.
So she contacted her job and called out sick for the first time in a long time. She made herself a cup of strong tea and tried to go back to sleep.
