Because Melissa's body was largely robotic, she had never had much of a need for clothing. She liked showing off anyway; how she had enhanced herself so seamlessly. The perfection of her android form.
Despite all this, there was something undeniably thrilling about the concept of maternity and everything that came along with it. Melissa wanted to try on maternity clothes. It was all part of the experience.
She flaunted her body as she strolled around the maternity store, enjoying the way patrons paused to stare at her. She looked at everything, silently considering how each item could be integrated into her pregnancy.
"Can I help you with something, miss?" asked a store clerk as she hoovered around nervously.
"Yes," said Melissa. "I'd like to try on a few pieces."
The store clerk lifted a maternity dress, and as they both considered it, Melissa realized how small it looked for someone of her present dimensions. Melissa rubbed her hands over her swollen abdomen. She would estimate that her womb was easily five feet in diameter, and her breasts, each two. Her belly jutted out massively, and were she not a cyborg, she might have misjudged its distance from other objects and been continuously bumping into things. Were she not a cyborg, she doubted she would have even been able to hold herself up.
The clerk seemed to realize the problem as well. She selected a larger size, but it appeared equally unsuitable. She squeaked nervously, "we erm...well...you see..."
Melissa could have been dismayed but she found herself chuckling. "Perhaps you can show me some of your baby clothes..." She trailed off when a sudden tension sprung up in her stomach. Her face twisted slightly as her stomach shuddered, the mass inching forward as she cradled it and arched.
The clerk watched in shock. Several other customers had their eyes glued to the scene.
The tension did not limit itself to Melissa's belly. She groaned as her swollen breasts tightened, nipples distending before a squirt of milk released from each.
"Ngghhh...ohhhh..." Melissa sighed as the growth spurt steadily subsided. Her nipples continued to freely drip, and her belly felt heavier on her hips than before, movements tickling the surface.
Melissa gazed down at herself, shaking her head in amazement. "I may be in the market for some maternity bras," she said, a little breathless.
The young clerk snapped out of her reverie. "We d-do offer custom tailoring. If you don't mind waiting. We can put something together for you."
"That would be great."
It took an hour of measurements and waiting, but Melissa left the store in a custom strapless padded bra accompanied by a strapless flowy sundress that hugged into her considerable curves. Though she usually preferred being unclothed, it felt quite nice to be adorned in such a feminine way. She thought it a celebration of her upcoming maternity. She loved the way the dress hugged her torso, showing off her fecund curve. She also liked the V-neck, how it dipped low into her cleavage. She felt—well, she felt pretty. As a scientist, this seemed almost a foreign term. Beauty was a frivolous thing to care about.
Yet her femininity grew more profound with every inch that her body swelled, and she would not ignore it.
Melissa paid for her items and walked out of the store, cupping her belly fondly as it swayed with her steady movements. She had made orders for several other items to be tailored in the same dimensions as the dress and bra she presently had on. They would be delivered to her home in another day or so. But then, at the rate her unborn children were developing, she wasn't sure she would even need them.
She moved slowly along the sidewalk, watching her belly bob gently. Though she was precisely aware of her distance from objects and everything in her periphery, that didn't stop passersby from nearly bumping into her as they turned corners, exited vehicles, or gazed at storefronts. They all paused to gape at her in wonder. One person even took a picture.
Melissa just smiled to herself, her hand now trailing along the underside of her mound. She started to pass a toy store and found herself stopping to look at some of the items in the window display. Reaching out to open the door was awkward, as her belly outspanned her arms by then. She started to turn to her side to reach out when an employee opened it for her.
"Miss," he said with a slight stutter, but he quickly gathered his composure.
"Thank you," said Melissa as she gingerly made her way inside.
She gazed around at the various items and realized she had no idea what to expect in motherhood. How many babies would there be? What about temperament, or genders? What should she plan for when it came to caretaking? It was all so exciting yet overwhelming.
