Susana
The Queen was pacing, her small chest heaving slightly with her breathlessness. This situation is entirely unprecedented, she muttered to herself as Susana stared. Its revolutionary. Its terrifying, and potentially disasterous. This birth year has yielded not one but three true princesses. She shot Susana a quick look, her eyes looking wide and somewhat wild. She turned away again, continuing to pace. One was infected by Kreptors, one ran away, and one produced two eggs instead of one on her first midnight. Rowena gave a hysterical little laugh, before seeming to lose her breath, and sagging while breathing harsh and heavily, as though she couldnt get enough air into her lungs.
Susana continued to watch in morbid interest. She stuffed another sweet roll into her mouth, before her hand compulsively dove back into the bowl beside her, grabbing for another one.
The queen abruptly turned back to her. We can get through this. Yes, we can get through this, cant we Susana? Rowena approached where Susana sat, and cradled Susanas head, as one would do a small child, shoving Susanas face again her bony ribs. Susana choked slightly.
M-mother, she managed weakly.
I still have you, Susana, said Rowena. Youre fine. No, youre perfect. If everything else falls apart, you will suit as my successor.
Susana gulped.
Everything is riding on you, the Queen murmured, as she gazed off, seeming to lose her focus again. Finally, she pulled back and forced a smile. Alright then. Shall we proceed with the day?
Susana blinked a few times. She gulped down the latest sweet roll in her mouth, before planting her hands on the arms of the fine chair upon which she was perched, and heaved herself up with some struggle. She gasped for breath once she was on her feet.
The Queens smile trembled. She turned and walked off, Susana waddling after her.
Susana found that the fatter she was, the happier everyone seemed with her. It was somehow a testament that she belonged here, so she ate as much as she could stuff downwhich turned out being quite a lot. In fact, she never stopped eating. And the servants were content enough to provide her with a continuous supply of delicious, fattening foods.
The Queen halted in the sumptuous hall, Susana nearly bumping her massive belly into the womans body. Susana gasped for breath, hunching slightly. Sometimes she felt like she would just teeter over, and had to hold onto walls, servantswhatever she could find. Her fingers sunk several inches into the plumpness of her belly as she clutched it. It was round but soft, not firm-looking as Conas had been. It was high and heavy, and bobbled slightly if she tried to move too fast. It was wider than she was, and she could no longer hope to circle the mound with her arms. Though it was still early in the evening, Susana was undeniably larger than she had been at birth time the previous night. She could hardly believe how much she had transformed in only the span of two days. She continued to huff out thin breaths, the huge mass heaving up and down as it pressed into her fine robes that were steadily shrinking against it with the hours that passed. Flushed and sweaty, Susana teetered slightly as the flanking servants stood poised, pretending not to notice how unrefined she was behaving.
A guard was leaning over to Rowenas ear. We have located Cona, Susana heard the guard murmur. We brought her back to the palace by express transmission.
Rowenas lips formed a grim line. Take me to her immediately.
As the guard and the queen swept off, Susana struggled to keep up, finding herself arching, pressing a hand to her tense back, still trying to acclimate to the bizarreness of her condition. She looked as though she had a beach ball attached to her. She wondered if she was having two again. Would that be a good thing? She wasnt sure
Susana finally made it to the windowless room the queen had been led into. In the center stood Cona, flanked by four guards. There were no chains or weapons aimed toward her sister. It was an improvement on the treatment Rina had gotten.
Cona was flushed and grimacing, her arms folded tightly over her ribs. She was wearing a worn tunic, and her belly was bulging out visibly, as it had the night before. Maybe it was a little bit larger but nowhere the size that Susanas was at present. Conas eyes went wide upon meeting Susanas belly, and Susana didnt know whether to feel pleased or uneasy by Conas look of alarm. Before she could deliberate on it, a servant pulled up a chair, and Susana was grateful to set herself down, her weight perching on her lap and heaving gently like a separate, living entity, massive as it was.
The Queen was sending Cona a furious look. What is the meaning of this, Cona? Why would you leave the palace? You know how critical a time this is. How delicate your condition.
Cona shook her head, though she wasnt remorseful. Im not meant for this, mother.
You dont have a choice, Cona. This is part of your identity. Your biology. You were chosen.
Cona merely twisted her face in evident discomfort. One of her hands twitched down to her stomach, holding the side of it, the other remaining wrapped about her ribs.
Rowena furrowed her brows. Whats wrong? Are you in pain? she demanded.
Cona gave a slight shake of her head, her gaze locked on the floor.
Strip her, said Rowena impatiently.
Cona struggled as her arms were pulled away from her body. Her tunic was torn away, and Susana found herself gawking at her sisters nudity.
Conas belly stood out, firm and prominent on her thin frame, but that wasnt what had captured Susanas attention. Cona had developed twotwo extra nipples. They stood, pink and pert on her ribs, just beneath the first pair. In addition to that, they seemed to have developed some pudge behind them, the hint of softness that indicated the development of breasts. The upper breasts were already somewhat fuller, fuller than Susanas own flat chest. Susana unconsciously brought her hands to her own ribs, wondering if she should expect a similarly strange development.
What what did you do to yourself? Rowena whispered in shock. She covered her mouth, looking absolutely horrified.
Conas belly gave a shudder, independent from the rest of her. Susana thought she was imagining it at first, but as she observed, the shudder returned, Conas skin pushing out slightly near her navel, as though there was something moving within it. Certainly not an egg, but something something live. It was unheard of. Susana felt her jaw drop.
Cona grimaced as she shifted her hips, as though she was uncomfortable with position ofof whatever laid within her. Eggs were typically uniform, werent they? Susanas sat properly cradled in her pelvis. Cona, meanwhile, was twisting awkwardly, as she pressed her palms again the weird prods of tension that pushed out the skin of her belly in such a terrifying way that Susana felt sick.
Cona took a shuddering breath. There was a witch doctor, she admitted, her voice breaking. In Candor. She tried to help me. She was meant to reverse this curse, but itit didnt work, and
Curse!? Rowena cut her off, her face contorted with rage. Susana had never seen the queen so angry. This is not a curse, Cona, this is a blessing. How dare you!
Susana unconsciously recoiled even though the Queens aggression was not directed towards her. She fumbled in her chair but all eyes were on Cona.
Rowena drew a long breath, trying to temper herself. See that this witch of Candor is arrested. Immediately, she ordered the nearest guard.
No! Cona protested.
Silence! Rowena snapped, raising her hand sharply, but it froze in the air. It trembled slightly, before Rowena forcefully lowered it from where it had been poised to make contact with Conas face. She turned away from her heir in disgust. Conas thin. Feed her, she ordered the remaining guards.
A new chair was pulled up, this one harder and lower than the one Susana was in. Cona was pushed down into it, two guards working quickly to affix leather straps about her wrists and ankles, binding her to the chair. Yet another guard was rolling a massive tank over, as though they had been prepared for this. A soft tube was uncoiled, Cona struggling and protesting as it was stuffed into her mouth, where she began to choke on it.
Do not let her out of your sight, Rowena said, before leaving the room.
Susana continued to fumble onto her chair, until an attendant finally took pity. She was tilted onto her feet, and she stumbled slightly, feeling heavier than she had ever felt before. The servant helped her walk until she was a bit more balanced, and Susana waddled her way out the door.
In the corridor, the Queen was back to pacing, her face looking frantic, almost crazed. She spun to face Susana.
My child, she said, taking Susanas hands. My sweet, obedient Susana. You are perfect. Yes, you will do.
Susana felt even more breathless than before, a knot surging to her throat as the pressure of her new title settled on her chest for the first time.
The Queen left to retire in a lounge, and Susana was led back to her rooms by two attendants. As she made her way, slowly, through the palace corridors, she found her fingers trailing along the luxurious architecture and tapestries that lined the walls. As she passed a decorative table, her hand closed around a small round ornament, about the size of her palm. Absently she stuffed it into what space she could find in her pocket, tight as her robes were getting by then.
Susana felt dazed by the time she finally made it back to her room. She was flushed and sweaty, and pulled open her robes with feeble fingers. Her huge belly sat in her lap like a massive ball, high as her chest, and soft enough that she felt awkward trying to maneuver so much, so she simply sat there in resignation, staring at the way it overflowed her thighs and hips. An attendant lowered a large bowl of snacks, and Susana proceeded to compulsively shove them into her mouth. She barely noticed as someone got behind her, rubbing her back. Another attendant got down before her, and began to massage Susanas sore ankles. The bowl of cream puffs was soon replaced with a fresh one, this one even bigger, practically a bucket, and each morsel was even more jammed with the sweet, gluttonous, buttery pastries. Susana ate and ate till she could hardly work her jaw anymore. She felt an intrinsic fear that her share of food would eventually come to a stop once the Queen realized that Susana didnt belong.
As if the servants had anticipated her fatigue, the next dish was a thick, creamy, substance, contained in a large jar with a straw. It tasted just as delicious as the cream puffs had, if not sweeter, creamier, and more buttery. It hit her insides hard, Susana practically feeling herself swell with heat and plump flesh. The massages continued, along her legs, throat, and arms, with special attention given to her back. She was rubbed into such a state of comfort, she hardly noticed as the servants withdrew, and she was left sprawled on her side on the bed, her robes pulled open to make way for her massive, throbbing belly. She dozed into a restless slumber.
Queen Rowena wanted Susana to be her successor. It was wonderful and terrifying, as well as blatantly illogical. Susana was nothing more than a street urchin. At least Cona had the poise and grace of a proper princess, having, in fact, been raised for the duty. Rina, meanwhile, had a strong, authoritative demeanor that commanded respect even when she was treated like scum.
Susana didnt belong here like the others. It was only a matter of time before Rowena realized.
