Cona
Cona was served a late dinner in the dining hall. Susana watched Cona in morbid interest only during the occasions that she wasnt busily stuffing her face.
Cona picked at her plate, still queasy from being force-fed earlier by the palace staff.
She was wary of the servants and furious with her mother. But she maintained a polite demeanor as she forced down what she could.
She was continually amazed by how rapidly her body could put on weight. Her belly was rounder, softer, less strained, but still rather firm. Her limbs were no longer bony and thin as her condition drained it of nutrients.
Cona was just grateful that the media was not present. She was not hungry, but conceded to an insatiable thirst, and found herself chugging down creams and juices as rapidly as she could take them in.
Suddenly her chest stung. She grimaced.
The Queen was rather cold, and would hardly even look at Cona. Not that Cona had any want for her mothers attention.
Rowena sipped her wine. Where is Rina? she asked a servant.
The servant seemed to practice remarkable restraint, because his expression remained impassive except for a twitch of his face. She says she is tired, my queen.
Rowena frowned. Have a meal sent to her rooms.
The servant nodded and left.
Cona finished her food and waited for the queen to dismiss them. She watched Susana struggle to get up from her chair. She was rather baffled by how massive the girl had gotten. Her belly was a wide, round ball that sat perched on her lap. It was wider than the rest of her, and rose as high as her chest. It all seemed quite fat, judging by the way Susanas thin fingers sunk an inch or two into the mound as she continued to struggle to get out of her seat.
Cona was able to rise with a bit more grace. She murmured her appreciation for the meal, before leaving for her quarters, a frown crossing her lips as she turned away.
In her peripheral vision, she could see a member of the palace staff trailing after her, keeping an eye on her, as the woman had probably been ordered to.
Ignoring it, Cona continued on towards her rooms. She entered and closed the door, outside of which the servant would undoubtedly be stationed.
It was only when she was alone that Cona allowed herself to sag and drop her air of composure. She crossed her arms over her sore ribs, over the extraextra nipples and breasts forming there. Over the gentle shifting of movement occurring within her belly. Something was severely wrong with her. Something had happened to the egg, andand her body. She had become a freak. And it was getting worse. Cona tore open her robes and looked down at herself, at the new pair of breasts steadily growing plumper beneath the first set, small but perky, almost resembling her first pair exactly. Gentle A-cups that just didnt belong there.
All four of her nipples ached and stung, even tingling at times. And she wasnt imaging that all four breasts were growing steadily fuller with a rate to rival her rapid pregnancy. Something had gone terribly amiss with the spell. She needed to see the witch again. If Tema had been arrested, she would probably be taken to the palace dungeons. And if Cona snuck away to see her, maybe the witch could reverse the changes, as the spell had only made Conas problems ten times worse. And something was wrong with the egg. There was movement, which an egg should not have displayed. It had been changed in a frightening way.
Cona did not know what would happen to her, and the thing inside her, at midnight that night, but Rowena seemed to be in full denial. The whole situation was terrifying.
There was a light tapping on her door. Cona froze. She had not realized that she had been pacing.
Princess, are you alright? You should be resting, called out Sinna, one of Conas attendants.
I will, Cona called calmly back, though she just wanted to tear her hair out.
She continued to look down at herself.
Beneath her fine robes, the secondary pair of breasts wasnt too noticeable. Perhaps she was allowing her anxiety to get the best of her. The secondary mounds were hardly there, just an innocuous lump in her clothing.
Her gaze proceeded to her belly, which was getting quite round. It was late after all, and nearing midnight, the time when she was due to birth her second offspringif it could even be considered an offspring at that point.
Cona was distracted from her thoughts by the sound of murmuring beyond her door. She got close to it, listening, as awkward as it was with her round belly pressed against the thick mahogany.
I heard that a third princess was discovered. It is a great blessing.
Or a curse. It is certainly unusual.
What do you mean?
I saw when she was brought it. It was general Rina, and she was infected by a Kreptor scratch.
A gasp. I thought that was just a rumor.
And the queen let her live. Who knows what that vile disease will do to the young? And I hear things around here have only been getting odder, still.
What do you mean?
Cona pulled herself away from the door.
She wanted to crawl out of her own skin. She wondered when the public would realize how odd she had become. Her anomalies were being kept under wraps for the time being, but it was only a matter of time before people would discover that she was hardly even Murkle anymore.
Her heart was pounding, she found herself pacing, well, waddling back and forth across her room even as her back ached. She looked at full term, the pressure growing uncomfortable, her torso ballooning outward, making her look like shed swallowed a football. She stared off in a panicked dazed, hardly noticing as she consistently reached up, rubbing or scratching at her tender, aching chest through her clothing.
She wasnt sure how long she moved back and forth, trying to work through her anguish. Her efforts to be normal had turned her into even more of a freak than before.
Then she felt wetness. Why was she wet? Cona paused again then looked down at herself. There were several damp spots on the chest of her attire. Four of them.
Cona opened her elegant robes and stared at her many breasts. All four certainly looked puffier, four nipples glistening with moisture.
Then she saw it herself. One of her nipples began to drip, a gentle throbbing sensation passing through it. The three other nipples were quick to follow, until all four were leaking a white fluid. She caught a droplet with one of her fingers. It was warm and a little sticky.
She stared for a while, completely stunned, trying to process the turn of events, but her brain just wouldnt compute it. She heard the door open and close, one of her attendants walking in.
Cona, its time to Sinna trailed off, and Cona looked up at her. Sinna was aghast. Her face paling, she hurried off, and Cona felt a new surge of mortification.
Cona quickly wrapped the silk robes back around herself. Sinna had undoubtedly run off to tell Rowena. It was bizarre and strange, and something she had only read in history books about oldkind. Apparently people had once been able to produce food from their bodies. A substance called milk. But it was unheard of in these contemporary times. She felt like an animal.
Cona crossed her arms, hugging herself, and wondering what would become of her.
There was a stabbing pain that seized her abdomen, and a glance at the wall clock told Cona that midnight was approaching. That was probably why Sinna had cometo get her. Cona grimaced and clutched at her protruding navel. Her previous labor had been uncomfortable, even painful, but this just felt different somehow.
She noticed that the leaking was getting worse, fluid soaking through her robes. She was briefly indecisive on whether to change or head to the birthing chambers, but things seemed to be progressing fast, her belly dropping low with a spasm that made her arch. Nrrgghh she groaned, as she staggered towards the door. She swung it open, and was welcomed by the sight of several servants whispering amongst themselves.
Rather than rushing to her aid, they seemed to freeze up, staring at Cona. Disgusted with them, Cona dragged herself forward, forcing one foot after the other on her way. In the meanwhile, her belly clenched and ached. Squirming movements littered the surface. Cona had to stop every few minutes to clutch the wall to keep herself balanced, because when the pains struck, they were so overwhelming that they left her weak at the knees.
Finally she burst into the birthing chambers, a flushed, sweaty mess. Susana was sprawled back on some cushions, her face contorted in discomfort, but she seemed to be nowhere near what Cona was experiencing.
There was another girl there, who had to be Rina. Like Susana, she looked very similar to Cona, if a tad greenish. She was wearing several layers, but had a visibly rounded abdomen. Curiously, it looked nowhere near term.
Cona was breathless, You must be
Let me help you, Princess, Rina said, guiding her to a bed as Cona quivered in pain. Some servants came to flank them, though with notable hesitation. Most seemed to be attending to Susana.
It seemed it was true that Rina had been infected by the Kreptors. Cona could see it in the dark green color of Rinas lips and her hair. Cona tried not to cringe.
I dont need to be here, but I wanted to meet you. Support you, said Rina tentatively. At Conas unease, she smiled wryly. Dont worry princess, I wont infect you. She raised a hand, which was adorned by a leather glove.
Im sorry, its justohhhhh, Cona groaned, her belly clenching up again, causing her to arch instinctively. As she did, she managed to pull her robes tight against her four burgeoning breasts, the wetness of the material further pronouncing the anomaly. The servants were back to their worried murmurs, and Rina seemed momentarily stunned.
Rinas face relaxed. Youve been through quite a lot. Havent you sister?
Before Cona could muse on the vast understatement, she found herself doubling over in pain. Ngghhh why is this so much woorsee? She groaned out as she clutched at her heaving abdomen. Finally, the servants descended around her with cloths and ice and perfunctory fretting.
When something did begin to crown, it wasnt hard and solid, but soft and malleable. It came slowly and painfully, twisting out of her, and as it did, her attendants gasped in shock. There was a shrill wail.
Cona opened bleary eyes and stared up at the bloody, slimy creature that had been ejected from her body. At first she thought it was some disfigured monstrosity like the beasts Rina would undoubtedly be made to produce.
But as it was wiped clean and held before her, she finally realized what it was. A live baby.
Of all the archaic things.
