How are you? said Connor awkwardly, once Jake had opened his eyes and relaxed.
Im not sure. Jake frowned. Okay. I guess.
Connor stared at the twig-like appendages protruding from the top of Jakes head. They appeared to be antenna. Can I ?
Jake shrugged.
Connor slowly reached up. As his fingers approached the top of Jakes head, the two antenna began to quiver sharply, and Connor retracted his hand. He released a nervous chuckle as Jake stared at him blankly through his enlarged black irises. It was eerie.
Instead of proceeding, Connors eyes slipped down to Jakes belly, where it was pressed hard against the table. Connor walked around to Jakes other side, and perused the bee abdomen. It had taken on a faint orange hue. It still looked plump and heavy where it protruded from Jakes tailbone. Connor could also see it shift slightly in places, as though with movement. The stinger twitched again, as if by instinct, but Jake didnt seem to have any control over the new appendage. Connor could not help marveling at the stinger. It had gone from the shape and sharpness of a pin, to now what resembled a wide mountain peak, tapering to a distinct pore, or even a dimple. The stinger twitched again, and Jake grimaced in evident discomfort.
Everything okay? said Connor, resisting the strange urge to touch it. How are you feeling?
F fine, Jake forced out, fidgeting. His face was flushed, his chest heaving. Connor could see the way his round breasts were seeping copious amounts of honey into his stretched shirt, the goo sliding messily against the top of his belly. And Jake was tense and sweaty, as though he was anticipating something.
Is it time to be worried? Connor said lightly.
Jake sent him an irritated look. Far past, he managed, absently shifting his legs. Ohhhh I I think Im
His face reddened even more, and the bee abdomen seemed to jolt slightly behind him. Connors instincts told him to retreat, but as usually, his valiantly stayed put.
Now the pore at the tip of Jakes stinger was seeping, dripping something, transparent and gooey. Connor was reminded of Jakes secretions before his penile births. Oh, he said.
Jakes eyes were squeezed shut, and he seemed to be concentrating. With difficulty, he heaved himself up, and Connor resisted the urge to aid him. Jake then eased himself down on the floor, on his hands and knees, his fat belly pressing the ground beneath him, as he rocked slightly, fidgeted some more, to finally plop his rounded posterior firmly onto the ground.
Jake released a sharp gasp, and his eyes opened wide. Connor could see that the dimple at the tip of his stinger was widening! It opened slowly, stretching to give way to a slimy mass crowning against it. Jake grunted, and the stinger practically spat out one of his offspring. Connor stared on in fascination, as Jake gasped, rocked, and cradled his belly. In the meantime, the stinger spat several more, one after the next, his young being unceremoniously deposited onto the ground. This method of birthing certainly seemed faster and more productive than the penile births. Jake appeared to be in less pain as well. Now he just seemed uncomfortable.
Jake continued to rock himself, depositing the creatures, back to back, and Connor realized a secondary concern coming to the forefront. The creatures were coming faster, and more plentiful. Jake seemed to have an endless stock. More than he could logically take care ofwere that even an option. And more than the lab could possibly be able to control.
Jake was releasing harsh gasps now, his whole body quavering with each creature he pumped out. Finally, when the stinger began to ooze out goo rather than more creatures, Jake dropped his head and slumped his shoulders, clutching his belly if just for leverage.
Connor watched in fascination as the tapering peak that had become of his stinger tightened back into the shape of a pin, the opening now undetectable, aside from the occasional bead of goo that dripped from the tip of the stinger, but even that subsided after a moment or two.
Jake continued to catch his breath, his supple D-cups heaving, swollen nipples sticking out visibly against his soaked shirt material.
By impulse, Connor wanted to lean down beside Jake and comfortingly rub his back. But as he saw the dozen or soperhaps a dozen and a halfcreatures twitching on the ground, orientating themselves, he knew that he would have to make a swift retreat.
He watched the strange way Jakes belly was heaving now, almost as though pumping, as his somewhat deflated bee abdomen behind him began to plump up again. Jake released a small groan, and rubbed his hands over his heaving belly. The creatures were replenishing in the secondary abdomen in preparation for a later birth.
Are you alright? Connor asked, even as he began to edge away.
Okay I think, said Jake, and he was surprisingly lucid. He swallowed. Scared.
Well figure this out. The door hissed, as it opened. Ill confer with the others. Theyll, um But Connor trailed off, because he had no clue what the other scientists would want to do with Jake at this point. Jake seemed equally uninspired by Connors encouragement. He simply shook his head.
As Connor entered the corridor outside of the glass room, where the group of scientists stood observing, most of their faces white, he wrung his hands. We have to help him. He has no control in this.
Hes did it to himself, Eugene bit out nervously. I say we proceed with the original plan.
Connor scowled. Your original plan was to do nothing and let him die from his condition, he said angrily. And you can see his body has adapted. Even if you try to starve him out, hes just going to keep producing the creatures, and they feed off each other. He gestured to the glass to make his point.
The first of the creatures had already latched to Jakes face and shoved its proboscis down his throat. The scientist was quietly moaning, his throat working, and his cheeks puffed out. One of his hands cupped his navel as his belly continued to visibly heave. It had shrunk down somewhat, the size of a beachball, and not painfully pressurize anymore. The bee abdomen behind him had swollen back to the size of a watermelonperhaps larger. It maintained the shape of a malformed football, and thankfully, the stinger was still the width and sharpness of a pin, as dangerous as it seemed in this state.
Hes right, said Diane, rubbing the bridge of her nose. This problem isnt going to go away. And Im ashamed that we thought it would.
Connor glowered at the abortive apology. Diane seemed more distressed that the problem hadnt simply endured rather than showing any regret about her treatment of Jake. The scientists had thought they could handle it without getting their hands dirty. Connor was determined not to let Jake be swept under the rug, as Ryan was.
Now all of the creatures were flying around in the air of the glass room, as the group outside stared on apprehensively.
One creature smacked hard into the glass, causing Eugene to jerk back in horror. Its stinger preceding it, the creature slammed itself into the glass again and again, to eventually resign.
Mason covered his mouth with his hand, but no one could seem to speak. Even Connor was somewhat shaken. That had been a blatant attempt to attack them.
Jake was still obliviously perched on the floor, working through his second forced feeding of royal jelly, some of it now sliding down his chin. Two creatures had torn right through his shirt, and were eagerly suckling from his keen nipples.
We need a way to control them, Diane murmured.
We need to figure out a way to get him to stop producing, said Mason, to which Connor nodded. Well wait until his nexthis next birthing. And then well rush him into surgery. II will complete it. Mason did not seem too enthusiastic about this notion, if judging by the greenish tint of his features. Of course, I will need one of you to assist. Eugene
Eugenes eyes widened in horror, and he looked fully prepared to bolt again.
Ill assist, Connor cut in. I dont mind thethe creatures that much. Plus, its the least I can do. I helped get us into this mess. Had he, really? By then, it was all a blur.
Mason nodded curtly. Ill examine the scans, then. Keep me updated as his condition progresses. With that, he turned and walked down the corridor, towards his office. Connor sighed, and turned back to the glass.
Connor reflected that Jake had become an incredibly proficient mammalian breeder. And a male one at that. The discovery would have been revolutionary if it wasnt so covert and frightening. As things were, Jake looked drained and exhausted. His body was in constant stimulation, his belly throbbing, breasts bloating, stinger twitching, bee abdomen swelling, and body as a whole heaving. He was sweaty and flushed, being pumped with nutrients and offspring on a constant basis. Even as he evolved to accommodate his condition, Connor was not sure how long Jake could endure it. He was still mostly human, after all.
