Not even a challenge, said James as he took Cindy up on her dare. He chewed one of the leaves of the strange purple plant that his mother kept in her small greenhouse. Its herbal. My mom used to take it all the time.
But didnt she dilute it? Cindy hesitated, and munched on a leaf herself. She immediately paled, and ran into some bushes, where James heard the unmistakable sounds of her being sick.
James shrugged. The plant didnt make him feel sick at all. In fact, he was feeling buzzed. He smiled to himself and plucked another leaf to munch. Cindy could be a drama queen sometimes. It was a harmless herbal remedy.
Over the next few days, James continued to swipe leaves of the purple plant from his mothers greenhouse. He was doubtful she would notice. There were whole bushes of the plant. He chewed the leaves mostly, sometimes boiling handfuls of them and making a potent tea. He even tried smoking them a few times.
The effect was always the same. A pleasant buzz that left him grinning but focused, and it lasted for hours.
James also noticed that he was putting on weight. Another possible side-effect he supposed, but he didnt mind. He had been thin anyway. Within a week, James was surprised to notice that he now sported a bit of a belly. He wasnt eating any more than usual, that he was aware. He tried to be more conscious of these things. For all he knew, the plant was giving him the munchies.
Another week passed, and Jamess belly had only swelled larger. It was odd that his weight seemed localized at his stomach, his belly firm and round. The following week, when his belly was beginning to bulge out from beneath his T-shirts, and his belly button had even popped out, his mother began to give him odd looks.
Still, the eighteen-year-old was too buzzed to care. Over the course of the month, he munched, and smoked, and swelled, and sipped his teas, his grades skyrocketing, his skin clearing up and almost seeming to glow.
Though James was beginning to have difficulty fitting behind his desks at school. Now even Cindy was looking at him worriedly while chewing her lip. James had to admit, he was starting to resemble a blimp. He belly was huge and round, looking like he was hiding a basketball under his shirt. His chest had begun to fatten as well, and he was developing manboobs, plump ones. His back ached, his hips had widened, and his ass was getting quite rounded behind him. His gait was awkward, he sweat constantly now, and by then he was practically bursting out of his clothessometimes literally, as well.
Finally, Jamess mother sat him down, and with a grim look, suggested that they visit the doctor in the morning.
Oh right then, said James, hoping the panic wasnt evident in his eyes. Homework time, he said, and waddled off straight out of the house.
He camped out at Cindys for the next few days, hiding out from his mom, munching the strange herbal leaves even as his belly seemed to throb, and squirm, and his swollen nipples ached, sticking out quite evidently in his shirt.
Cindy would survey him, looking entirely uneasy.
And James would contently continue to munch his herbal leaves.
