The appendage continued to grow. Soon it was eight inches, then nine, coming to resemble a...tail.
Ryan groaned through his episodes of tension and growth, the tail pushing out every day. It went from nine inches to ten, and ten to a foot long.
It was slim and hairless, the color of the rest of Ryan's skin. It had an ovoid tip and seemed to twitch slightly from time to time.
Ryan was beginning to realize that the whole thing was covered in nerves. When he glided his fingers over it, each minuscule sensation left him shivering. It was so unusual.
Soon the tail was sixteen inches long. Ryan did his best to hide it from his parents, usually keeping it tucked into his pants, which only became awkward when Ryan was wearing shorts. As it got longer, he wrapped it partially around his waist.
In time, the appendage was no longer just twitching, but producing slight movements as well. Ryan craned his neck one morning to watch the tail wiggle somewhat. He could feel it, but he couldn't quite tell whether he was controlling it or not. This was all so new to him.
In another week, the tail had grown to be two feet long.
Ryan was uncomfortable, but he wasn't horrified as he should have been. He just accepted the tail as an inconvenience. Despite his large appetite, he didn't seem to gain any weight, and his parents were getting concerned. Meanwhile, the tail continued to grow.
One evening, Ryan was lying back in bed, his tail hovering over him, idly swinging back and forth like a pendulum. It had continued to surge with growth and was presently two and a half feet.
The appendage was so fluid and flexible, it couldn't have contained bone. It was perplexing. As Ryan examined the ovoid tip, he couldn't help but notice that there was a small dimple at the very end. Ryan grabbed hold of the tail, ignoring as it twitched for release. He scrutinized the dimple, then gently glided his thumb over it. "Uunngghhh..." Ryan groaned, the tail slipping from his fingers as his whole body was shocked with sensation. He didn't know whether it was pleasurable or uncomfortable, just that for a fleeting instant, he had lost control of his body entirely.
Catching his breath, Ryan began to suspect that the tail was far more than just a cosmetic feature. He rolled onto his stomach and became lost in thought as the tail continued to waver over him where it protruded over the waistband of his shorts.
Much as the development roused his curiosity, Ryan couldn't help the feeling that something unusual was to be expected. He knew that he should have had some sort of reaction, but still, he was unconcerned. He knew that this was all just part of a plan and that he would be safe.
The next morning when Ryan awoke, both Samuel and Tammy were already at work. Ryan had settled in, and his parents finally felt comfortable leaving him by himself again. Ryan walked into the kitchen, his tail freely protruding out over the waistband of the back of his pants. It waved slightly as Ryan walked. As far as Ryan could tell, it was harmless. It certainly wasnt the worst thing that could have happened to him.
There were some scrambled eggs, bread, and butter left out on the kitchen table, along with a fruit bowl with some plums. Not nearly as elaborate as the breakfast that had been waiting for Ryan on his first morning home, but he supposed that he couldnt complain. As Ryan picked up the two slices of bread set out for him, and walked over to the toaster above the stove, he felt his tail sway a little more powerfully. Just as he opened the toaster, his eyes widened at the strange sensation at the ovoid tip of his tail.
Ryan turned his head just in time to see the dimple at the tip of his tail suddenly open up like a small mouth. It widened more, reminding Ryan of a snakes jaw, before it clapped down on one of the plums in the fruit bowl, where it proceeded to suck it down.
Nrrgghhh Ryan grunted, rather stunned by the sensation of the plum entering his tail. Ryan could do little more than deeply breathe, and sweat, as the plum slowly shifted down the length of the tail, bulging visibly as it squeezed its way through. He could see and feel the lump inching closer and closer to his body, until it stopped at Ryans tailbone, and then proceeded. Ohhhhh Ryan groaned, arching his back as the plum went inside of him. He felt it emerge in his stomach, and felt a sudden tightness there. Ryan cupped a slight bulge that had appeared on his thin abdomen, where the plum sat, completely whole. He dropped the bread that had been squeezed to crumbs in his hand. He had decidedly lost his appetite.
Ryan held his stomach, gasping for breath, completely stunned by what had transpired. He looked up at the sound of the gallon-tub of butter shifting on the table. The tail managed to push it over the edge, causing the top to pop off. The tip of his tail then dove in, the dimple not widening this time. It simply seemed to be sucking the butter up.
Ryan grabbed hold of his tail, but it was so sensitive, he immediately let it go. That, and the sensation of the butter pumping into his body left him rather disoriented. The butter was soft and smooth, and quicker to enter him. Ryan realized that he had to get away from the table. But by the time he did, all of the butter was gone.
Ryan leaned his elbows on the kitchen counter, breathing heavily as his tail waved and wiggled, again trying to reach for the plums. It was a few inches too short to reach the table. Holding onto the wall, Ryan made his way out of the kitchen, feeling a little sick to his stomach. What was that? was all he could wonder, befuddled by this new development. It was like his tail had a mouth or something.
Ryan sat down on his bed, and the tail simply swayed. Ryan craned his neck to examine the ovoid tip. There was no sign of lips or teeth or anything like that. Just the same small dimple that had opened up wide enough to consume a whole plum, and had produced enough suction to suck in a tub of butter in only seconds.
Ryan could actually feel the food inside of him. It was like he had eaten it himself. This left him a little queasy, especially as he belched, and could taste the butter in the back of his throat. He deeply breathed. Things had certainly changed.
Over the next few days, Ryan did his best to control the tail. It was difficult, and took a lot of focus, but for periods of time, he could keep it in place.
Despite this, Ryan tried to avoid the kitchen as much as he could. He didnt have much of an appetite anymore anyway. He had realized that the more he ate, the more the tail seemed to grow. The more it grew, the more mischief it made.
His parents continued to be concerned about his skinny frame. There was talk of hiring a nutritionist, but Ryan insisted that he was fine.
One evening, Ryan sat down on his bed in a T-shirt and some sweatpants, his tail protruding freely between his clothes. It was only seven, but Ryan had been feeling fatigued lately. Swinging his legs up, Ryan laid down on his side. In his sleep, he absently rolled onto his stomach.
Despite Ryan being unconscious, the tail continued to move. It idly swayed to and fro in the air, a good three feet long by then. Something scuttled across the floor, and the tail dove down, quickly sucking up a spider, as it often did in Ryans sleep. A plump mouse scurried about under the bed, then settled on chewing on one of Ryans old, forgotten sweatshirts. The tail slowly, carefully, crept towards it. It wasnt quite long enough to reach the mouse, but the tail forcefully stretched, Ryan grunting in his sleep as the tail lengthened by an inch or so on its own. The dimple spread wide as a gaping opening formed, before the tail slammed down on the mouse, gulping it whole.
Nrrrghhhh Ryan grunted again as the wriggling creature was forcefully shoved along the tails length and towards his body, before reaching the base of his spine. The mass trembled and lurched, before popping whole into Ryans stomach.
The teen in question gasped awake, sitting up and holding his abdomen at the uncomfortable tightness that had blossomed there. He looked around in a panic, but his tail was lying still across the mattress alongside his legs. All was still in the room. Maybe hed just had a bad dream. Ryan absently rubbed his abdomen. It was somewhat distended, though he didnt know why. He wiped some sweat off of his brow before heaving a deep sigh, lying back down, and closing his eyes.
