Heres your dry-cleaning, sir, said Dakota, the intern, weakly, as he handed over a plastic-draped suit to a partner entering the office. Oh, good morning Mr. Withers. Large coffee no milk, two sugars, Dakota said, handing a cup of coffee to another man. As always, Dakota had arrived two hours early to ensure that the workspace was prepared for all of the partners. Hello Mr. Mason. I left the figures for the Feldmen account on your desk.
Dakota panted as he watched the partners disappear into their respective offices. He ignored the odd looks he received from regular employees as he slowly gravitated towards a chair. If he could sit down, just for a second
Dakota? Mr. Daniels wants to see you, stat, said the receptionist as she lowered her phone.
Dakota froze. Sucking in a deep breath, he trudged towards the office of his least-favorite partner. Dakota let himself inside and leaned against the wall, grimacing slightly as he slid his right hand down to his sore lower back.
Looking up from his desk, Christoph surveyed the intern. A huge belly protruded from Dakotas otherwise slim body. He was absolutely massive. He looked ready to pop. The mound completely overwhelmed Dakotas thin frame. It heaved up and down as the intern panted.
You look well, Christoph remarked.
Dakota simply glared at him.
Sit, said Christoph flatly.
For an obstinate moment, Dakota did not react. Then reluctantly, he pushed himself off of the wall, waddled over to one of the chairs before the desk, and eased his fertile body down so that his belly perched in his lap. Dakota was flushed, sweaty, and breathless. Strands of blonde hair fell against his forehead. His pregnant belly was stretching out his button-down shirt. Christoph also noticed that Dakota was beginning to develop small breasts.
Can I help you with something? said Dakota icily.
Just checking up on you. Christoph was tall, muscular, and entirely intimidating. It was probably what attributed to his business success. I have to thank you again. My wife and I had been trying for years. And you know Mindyshe would never trust another woman to do this sort of thing.
Dakota continued to silently glare. He was tired of being summoned by Christoph Daniels at a seconds notice. He was already near-bursting with the mans children. This was apparently what happened when ones boss blackmailed them for stealing $12,000 in office supplies. Dakota rubbed the throbbing mound. He looked overdue with triplets. In actuality, he was short of eight months along with said babies. I have work to do, Dakota grumbled.
How are you doing?
The two continued their silent staring contest, Christoph amused, and Dakota livid. But finally, Dakota broke. I need the cesarean, he said, his voice suddenly weak. Soon. Today if possible. Sir, Im so tight. Im going to burst if they grow an inch more.
Christoph absently took in the diamonds of skin between Dakotas shirt buttons. He really was implausibly large. You have over a month to go.
But these are triplets, sir. And my bodys not exactly equipped for this.
Christoph shook his head. Youll be fine.
Dakotas face fell. He grunted, rubbing his mound as his belly button bulged out arbitrarily. The thing was the size of a golf ball. Dakota breathed and groaned as his belly trembled.
By the way, I need forty copies of this. Christoph slapped a stack of papers to the front of his desk.
Christoph didnt really need the copies. He just liked to watch as Dakota struggled to get up from seats. Once Dakota had succeeded at this, he was flushed and panting, holding the underside of his belly as it rose and fell, threatening to tear through his shirt.
A naturally skinny, twenty-something-year-old bachelor, Dakotas unhealthy eating habits had been his downfall. Helpless to his junk food addiction in addition to newfound pregnancy cravings, all of the calories seemed to have gone straight to his pregnancy.
Following Dakotas last check-up, the doctor had pulled Christoph aside. Apparently each baby was quite plump. The doctor anticipated it would be a difficult birth. Towards the end, Christoph could expect Dakotas bottom to plumpen, his breasts to swell with milk, and his belly to drop. If Dakota was lucky, his hips might widen as well.
Of course, Dakota had been left under the mistaken impression that his pregnancy would end with a cesarean. He had no idea what he was in for.
Get these copies back to me ASAP, said Christoph. This is a time sensitive matter, he lied.
Dakota looked utterly defeated. Throwing Christoph one more glare, Dakota grabbed the papers and waddled out of room, back arched, one hand on his spine.
Christoph watched him go. Despite the attitude, Dakota was a good surrogate. Great, really. Christoph had already decided to use Dakota to carry his next couple of children once this pregnancy was over. Dakota didnt know yet. So it would be a surprise.
Christoph opened a drawer and pulled out some menus for the local restaurants. He knew that Dakota was having ridiculous cravings, and could hardly resist the offer of free food. Christoph pulled out his phone. Maybe hed see if Dakota truly couldnt handle another inch of baby-weight. Yes, Id like to order three extra-large pies with sausage and pepperoni and
