"Shit."
It had to be a cyst. Or a massive tumor. She was sick. She needed medical attention! Cona recovered the phone and began to dial 911.
Or...
She swallowed, recalling a familiar scenario occurring at the lab a few days ago. With her bees.
What if she was having a reaction to the drone's sting? Whatever was happening inside her would be neutralized if she went to the hospital. What if she had stumbled upon a scientific break-through?
Feeling weird, Cona climbed to her feet and stumbled to the light switch. She winced as the new brightness stung her eyes, before glancing down at herself.
Just as she'd felt, her shirt was sticking out, a strange, lone mass in the center of her belly, round, about the size of a grapefruit. Her innards lurched, but she ignored it. Her arousal was replaced by a subconscious need that would grow and grow with the rest of her.
Walking to her bedroom, Cona grabbed a pair of jeans and buttoned them closed beneath the mass. Grabbing her keys, she walked out the door. She needed to get back to the lab and find out what was happening to her.
By the time she reached her destination, it was the early hours of the morning still pitch-black outside. No one would be around.
Recognizing her ID card, the security system granted her entrance, and Cona entered the lab, turning on just a few lights. She glanced at the glass wall behind which was the room with the hive, worker bees still aimlessly buzzing around.
Grabbing some equipment, Cona climbed onto a table. Reclining uncomfortably, she turned on the computer console set up beside her, then unbuttoned the lower half of her blouse. Finally, she grabbed a tube of gel, squirting it onto the bulge, wrinkling her nose as she did so. She grabbed an ultrasound and massaged the paunch with it, feeling increasingly strange. She glanced at the computer screen beside her.
The thing being illustrated on the screen was...a perfect circular shape. It seemed to be an actual...egg. Cona felt herself blanch. How was it even possible? And looking deeper, within it, was something that definitely wasn't human. Something that was...animated.
Cona dropped the wand and it clattered to the ground. She had been mistaken. She needed this thing removed immediately!
The side of her that was an entomologist, however, continued to pester an alternative idea. She'd never seen anything like this. No one had. She was pregnant. She had been fertilized, and not by another person. As result of a bee sting. This was the kind of stuff that went down in medical journals. It was the type of discovery that earned someone the Nobel Prize. She needed to wait for her fellow scientists. She needed to be studied.
"No," Cona said to herself. It was too dangerous. She needed to go to the hospital. Maybe if she was lucky, they'd do a cesarean, and the egg could be preserved externally. Who knew what was inside of it, or what it might do to her insides otherwise.
Cona abruptly grunted in pain. She folded forward, clutching her gut. A stabbing sensation. A building pressure. Cona dropped to her knees then crumpled to her side, curling around her abdomen and wishing the pain would stop. "Errrgghhhh..." The pressure escalated, until she could physically feel a new mass forming in her abdomen, grapefruit-sized like the first, and pushing out from under her shirt. When the episode was over, Cona clutched the twin lump, gasping for breath. Her body was soaked in sweat. "What...?" was all she could manage, before passing out.
When she came to, the sun was out. She could feel it against her closed eyelids.
"Cona? Cona! Oh my goodness..."
Cona opened her eyes, groaning as her coworkers helped her to her feet. She clutched her turning stomach, still swollen with the egg.
But it felt different now...bigger. Misshapen. Like there was no longer just one grapefruit-shape within it, but a small collection of them.
"What on earth," whispered Sarah.
Two of the others helped Cona back onto the table and opened her shirt. Half delirious from fatigue, she felt the familiar sensation of the gel being squirted onto her stomach. They ran a sonogram.
"What are those things?" said Terry.
"I...don't know," John responded.
"Eggs," Cona managed. She finally looked up at the computer screen and tried to focus. She could now make out three of the masses. Cona swallowed. She was developing more eggs, and at an alarming rate. She looked down at her stomach, making out three lumps within it to mirror the shapes illustrated through the sonogram.
The room fell into silence, her colleagues continuing to numbly observe.
"How did this happen?" said John, finally.
"The sting," said Cona, rubbing her eyes. She knew she probably looked pale and clammy. She instinctively winced as a tremble ran through her belly, but nothing happened. She breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed she was just hungry.
"You stay here and try to get a little rest," said Sarah, her eyes remaining wide. "We're going to go to my office and discuss your best course of action."
Cona nodded. Terry comfortingly squeezed her arm as he and four others walked off to Sarahs office. The door closed, and Cona heard muffled whispers behind it.
Cona leaned back, holding the side of her abdomen. Her belly gurgled again.
So...hungry...
She lightly shook her head. Now wasn't the time for food. Her innards squirmed, but this time to be accompanied by pain. She muffled her groan in her arm, so not to alarm the others. She could feel it happening again. It wasn't as bad this time. She was getting used to it. She felt a pressure build within her stomach, before it pushed out accordingly, to signal a newcomer.
Egg number four.
She tried to re-button the bottom half of her blouse, but to no avail, her gut havingbecome too pronounced. It didn't make sense. She wasn't a bee. She didn't know what these things inside of her were, but her body was developing them as though she was beginning a new hive. And hives needed lots of workers...
Again, Cona tried to move herself away from these thoughts. At the speed with which her condition was developing, it was obvious she was self-fertilizing. Perhaps if she could remove the sperm sac, she could prevent her problem from escalating. It had to be somewhere on her lower abdomen. Cona felt around the masses in her gut, grunting uncomfortably as she did so. She was too big. It seemed impossible to find and distinguish an artificial organ at this stage in her condition. Even if she did go into surgery, it would be mostly exploratory-
"Eugh."
There, that persistent tremble.
So hungry.
Overcome by this need to feed, Cona climbed off the table. Grabbing a jacket, she stormed out of the room and from the building before any of her coworkers could notice. Finding a dumpster just a few blocks away, Cona climbed into it the best she could, her belly aching from her exertions. It continued to grumble nonetheless.
"Rarrgh!"
She tore through anything she could find, edible and otherwise. She found old macaroni, chicken bones, and even some stale deserts the nearby bakery had thrown away. Cona paused for air, her face covered in food. Her innards gurgled. It wasn't enough. Her young needed more sustenance.
She climbed out of the dumpster with concentration and effort, her body increasingly heavy with spawn. Breathing heavily when she had succeeded, she clutched her jacket around her to keep the eggs warm. Just as she started off again, she released a yelp, and hunched down in pain.
"Eugh..errrghh..." her belly tightened...pushed outwards...a new egg developing to join the others. When it was over, she looked down at herself, her abdomen large, sticking out from her shirt, and filled with a mass of rounded bulges. She wouldn't bother herself with keeping count. Her body would develop more and more.
Hugging her abdomen, Cona started forward. Now to feed.
Minutes later brought her to a grocery store, arbitrarily tossing whatever she crossed into her already-full grocery cart. She paid special attention of fatty things, like dairy, and syrups, and lard. When she reached a register, her cart was teeming with merchandise.
Ignoring the stunned looks from the young cashier, Cona put everything on one of her credit cards. Carting her purchases off to her car, she impatiently stuffed her bags into the trunk and backseats, before walking back to the driver's seat. She had to pull the seat back several inches to be able to fit behind the steering wheel. After she did so, she paused to catch her breath. Her belly squirmed unpleasantly.
"Soon," she assured her gut, rubbing it tenderly. She then started up the car.
Cona got home in moments and lugged the groceries into her house in several exhausting trips. When the last of the food had been deposited to her living room floor, she lowered herself amongst it and hurriedly began to feast.
She scooped butter out of its containers with her hand and stuffed it into her mouth, gulping it down, and feeling her innards twist appreciatively. She slurped down pudding cups like a human vacuum, and chomped through bags of popcorn, sometimes slathering them with oil and compressing them for quicker access to her stomach. She dug through cakes and pies, gulping down bottles of honey and syrups until it poured down her chin and soaked the front of her shirt. She worked her way through baked chickens, and cookies, and massive jars of rich mayonnaise, feeling her young tremble in delight.
By the time she was finished but not nearly satiated all but the top buttons had popped off her shirt. Her jacket could no longer hope to encircle her growing girth.
It didn't matter. Cona tore it off and struggled to her feet. She clutched her stomach as she walked, her belly bulbous and bulging with the rounded masses.
"Ohhhhh," Cona groaned suddenly. She stopped and held the wall as another of her young began to manifest. "Yesss," she moaned, feeling her belly swell as a new mass joined the growing collection.
Cona reached her bedroom with increasing clumsiness, and found her dresser, clutching it for support. Her belly was so fat, so taut, she could feel it pulsating with new life. Her nipples ached in preparation. It wouldn't be long now.
Breathing, Cona opened a drawer and pulled out a green sweatshirt. Tearing off her measly dress shirt, she yanked the sweatshirt over her head. It covered the top half of her torso, but it couldn't hope to cover her bountiful girth. It would do for the time being.
Clutching her gut with one arm and the wall with the other, Cona started back toward the living room to see if there was anything left to snack on. Just as she began to lower herself to the floor, she choked in pain. She clutched the sides of her stomach.
But this was a new kind of pain. She felt the eggs shifting, the ripest of them sliding into her birth canal. Cona released rhythmic gasps as her body further prepared. It was time. She reached down and attempted to unbutton her jeans, which were digging into her flesh by then, but she could barely reach the button beyond her girth.
Cona snarled. Her spawn was coming! She had no time for this!
She yelped, and dropped to her back as the pain escalated. Limbs trembling, she forced herself back up, and climbed onto all fours, her belly pressing her thighs in her position. She felt another egg develop amidst the others, but was too distracted by the pain of the labor to acknowledge it. She continued to struggle with her button, releasing choked whimpers by then. She felt her hips widen, grunting as the waistband cut into her girth. It was coming! Surrendering her efforts to open her button, Cona cried out, pushing.
Her egg began to crown, pushing into her jeans, but it moved no farther. There was no room. Cona screamed out in pain as her hips widened yet more, her pants tenting out slightly at her groin, but offering her no leverage to give birth. She felt her belly ache and gurgle. The pain was unbearable. Her face red and dripping with sweat, Cona continued to fruitlessly push. She could barely even breathe anymore.
There was suddenly a snapping noise, followed by a ping. Cona gasped as her waistband abruptly loosened, the button having snapped off. Her belly seemed to enlarge, given more room to grow. Cona yanked down her pants the best she could, and then her bulging panties. She squatted down and her body burned as an egg slid slowly out of her and dropped onto the floor.
Cona sunk when it was over, trying to catch her breath. She felt the labor pains begin to recur, as well as the pressure. It seemed another was ready to come.
Baring down on it despite her exhaustion, Cona tried her best to muffle her moans. She felt the second egg crown, and slide painfully out of her, before popping free like the first had, and rolling across the carpet.
Cona collapsed onto her side, feeling hot and achy. She glanced at her eggs, both the color orange, and covered in her fluids. She smiled slightly before drifting off.
When she awoke, she was even larger with child despite her recent births. Her fertility pleased her. She carefully climbed up, her bulging belly filling her lap, shuddering gently with small complaints of hunger. Cona glanced out the window. It was nighttime.
She climbed to her feet, with more difficulty than she anticipated. She hugged her belly, clutching it the best she could, teeth clenched as she tried to stay balanced. Cona staggered in her bedroom and struggled into a pair of leggings, her belly sticking out from her clothes like a massive ball. She looked down at her chest, which was puffier than usual. She settled down on her bed to massage it for a few minutes, breathing heavily from the sensations of tingly soreness this aroused.
Climbing back to her feet, Cona grabbed some towels from the hooks on her door and wobbled back into the living room. Squatting down with difficulty, she wrapped her two eggs in the towels, and set them back down. She then headed for the door, gasping with every successful step.
She knew of a factory nearby. One of the ones that made snack-cakes.
She walked several blocks, slowly becoming accustomed to the new weight on her abdomen. As she made her way to the factory, she felt a new egg develop within her, and later, another. She moaned with each occurrence. Her brood would be a large one. She held her belly lovingly. She could feel new hormones circulating through her body. She could feel herself getting stronger.
She reached the factory and broke in without problem, unaware of the new antenna protruding from her hair. She quickly found the conveyer belt that carted the finished snack-cakes off to be packaged. Cona felt herself salivate. Each was puffy, taut with cream filling. She plucked them up one by one, stuffing them into her mouth. Not a one escaped her. She gulped them down whole, feeling them slide into her stomach, and feeling her young shift appreciatively. Cona felt herself go into labor, which simply prompted her to eat all the faster.
When her labor peaked, she finally stopped, allowing herself to acknowledge the pain. Groaning, she tugged down her pants and squatted the best she could. She felt her hips widen with her latest additions.
She birthed three eggs in the factory, and recovered faster than she had the last time. Gathering them in her arms, she started for the exit, but paused. It was still late. Her young weren't nearly finished. Cona instead turned back and waddled farther into the factory, and toward the large tubs where the batter was being mixed. Her innards stirred in excitement. She set her eggs down on a counter and approached the tubs, but she couldn't nearly reach the batter. Peeking inside, she saw the batter was simply being filtered through the tub and out through a hose to another chamber. It didn't seem dangerous. Cona looked around, and spotted a chair.
She climbed precariously upon it, legs shaking as she did so, and chair groaning from the weight of her. She dropped herself into the batter, her body cushioned by the gook.
Even as Cona submerged herself and slurped away, she couldn't help wondering where the icing was being manufactured. Her young couldn't get enough. She knew they would be strong.
An hour she gulped down mouthful after mouthful of the sweet, sticky batter, her belly seeming to tighten with every swallow. Every so often she would pause, feeling new life develop, and her belly expand. Soon enough she would birth more eggs than she could carry. Cona deemed it was time to leave. Reluctantly raising her face from the slimy batter, she wondered how she would get out of the tub. Though the gallons of goo took the weight of her young off her body, she could still feel each egg continuously growing; pulsating with life. She couldn't reach the edge of the tub when facing it, so she turned around, back to the wall, her belly wider than she was by then. Reaching blindly behind her and grasping the edge, Cona heaved herself up with all her strength, her belly bobbing up and down with her heavy breathing. She pulled herself onto the edge and sat there for a moment, belly perched in her lap. Locating the chair, Cona climbed gingerly upon it, finally lowering herself to the floor moments later. She hunched slightly, just from the weight of her girth. She knew it would be time to birth more of them soon.
She was covered in snack-cake batter, which plastered her clothes to her body, further pronouncing her tremendous girth and the large knots all about it. Cona gathered up her eggs and waddled to the door, leaving a trail of the gook behind her. When she got outside, she could tell it was nearing sunrise. She knew she couldn't go home. The scientists would be looking for her.
Cona wandered into the nearby woods, kneeling down by a tree and digging a hole. Breathing heavily, she buried her three eggs, her belly pressing heavily against the earth when she was on all fours. It had become such a massive mass of bulges, she couldn't hope to count them. She smiled to herself when she finished burying her eggs, and began to rise, when a searing pain hit the base of her spine.
Initially, she thought she was going into labor, but that wasn't it. Something...else was happening. Cona cried out. She heard her clothes tear.
Something tore through her pants, sticking out from just above her bottom. Reaching behind her, Cona felt around her new stinger, careful not to prick her hand on it. It was six inches long and arbitrarily twitched as she felt around the tip. Her fingers connected with something gooey, and she brought it to her face; touched it to her lips. Honey. Cona deeply breathed, her body continuing to secrete honey from the new appendage poking out behind her.
Successfully rising, Cona stumbled farther into the woods, eventually finding an enclosed clearing where she would be able to rest. Burrowing herself within a makeshift nest of twigs and leaves, she curled up, closed her eyes, and tried to relax, despite the way her belly regularly trembled and shifted against her.
Little did she know, her colleagues were hot on her trail.
