Hi. On today's episode, Katy, Cody, and Jonathan talk about Sen. Josh Hawley's tariff rebate checks (aka Hawley Bucks), the EPA giving up its ability to regulate anything having to do with climate change, and all the new Republican legislation about weather modification. Then, in the second half of the episode, they talk with human rights lawyer and immigrant advocate Layla Razavi about how ICE wants to spend its influx of cash and how to show up for migrant communities.

Josh Hawley talking about raises people didn’t get under Biden stings extra because I’ve enjoyed raises and bonuses every year for over a decade with my employer. This year, I was screwed out of thousands of dollars in bonuses and no raises because a Trump EO wiped out my industry 🥲

Something struck me while I was watching this: I don't think anyone outside of maga actually has put together what their strategy is and how to stop it. It's like, explicitly spelled out in Niemöller's "First they came..." poem that everyone loves to parrot, and teachers and English majors love to overanalyse and make deductions on. But none of you are actually reading the poem correctly, not a single one of you outside maga. You read by starting in the top left and reading each letter from left to right, the same way every piece of writing in English gets read. It's such an obvious strategy, it's the first one you learn when you learn how to fight someone, or learn anything related to conflict: You choose a small piece of the opponent and remove it. Someone who has never learned how to fight will never learn this strategy is applicable to politics. However, every single one of these rich maga guys learns it at private school, every single techbro learns it, and every evangelical learns it from their bible. You can't let these tiny pieces of democracy, of humanity, go. You have to defend everyone, to help everyone, or we all die. Get it through your heads that these people want us dead. Now. Before my friends die trying to save you. Before I die trying to save you. There will be no one left to help you if you don't do it now.
