The sense I got is that Kemmich had some control over his progeny. With him dead, I think Mary and Stack ended up having a little more control over their actions. Also felt that the second Smokes took out the protection, it was because he was done. He was ready to go after that, having lost everything.

one of the saddest scenes was watching the flashback of all the people that pulled through after a hard day of labor to support smoke and stack. everyone is just there to have a good time and be with their community, but evil comes looking for them smh its also crazy how preacherboy's dad doesn't even ask any questions when he sees his son all bloodied up 😭just assumes its cause of the music, that guitar actually saved his life, sir

This movie is actually Preacher Boy's first role in anything ever! He is a musician that travels with the singer H.E.R. He has no acting credits what so ever. Very impressive as he was one of the stand outs in this movie for me.
