“Year 4698, the tenth day of the Samua month
"It's an easy job!" they said, " What is gonna be, couple of rats grown too much, at least!". Thinking about it now could make me laugh, If it wasn't a thing to cry for.
We were the usual team. We got hired by a so-called wizard to attend to a certain task.
It was a while since people were getting sick for non-natural reasons, some sort of plague or something similar.
The wizard was sure that it was related to the rats, but from what I could understand, he knew more than what he said. And I was damn right about it.
We stepped into the sewer, I will never get rid of the stink of that place, but we didn't find anything abnormal, but the smell. The sweet sticky smell of rotten meat was disgustingly filling up our nostrils and throats.
I've been there a few times in the past, as everyone who tries to survive in Norfolk, but for Lumnis, It has never stunk that bad!
The wizard, who wanted to come with us no matter what, seemed quite nervous.
I recall one of the lads saying something like "Come here folks, I found something", but we didn't have the time to get closer and that thing was already on him.
I don't dare or better I don't have the words to describe it correctly, that shapeless horror! It seemed a filthy doll made of flesh, organs, and bones all knitted together, an abomination without logic or sense, of which, still today, I struggle to give a precise shape. It ripped Sven's head with its fangs, vertically opened from the top of the head and they were splitting in two what could have been its face!
We could only fight. It was brutal, one of that scenes that knock at night in your nightmares. No easy-peasy knife job.
In the end, with my trusted axe well dunked in what was left of its skull, that creature collapsed on the floor. I was the only one on his feet. The wizard was crouched against the sewer walls and my companions, all spread in bits and pieces in that filthy place.
He was sobbing, the wizard, stalking his prey to who knows what Gods, he was preying for forgiveness, but gibberish and meaningless were those words for me.
Later on, after getting my wedge, nuts for what I saw, I honored my fallen companions toasting generously at their memory.
Despite the absurd quantity of alcohol I shoved into my throat, I couldn't get any sleep that night. The acute screams of that creature were still hanging in my head more and more. I couldn't stop to think that, fuck, no other animal I have ever taken down, has ever screamed so humanly.
I will never know for sure, but from the screams and sounds coming from that creature, at some point, I thought, I heard more than once the word "Father".
The wizard didn't tell us the whole story and for sure, they weren't damned fucking rats.”

NOTES AND TIPS

- Map A: Water level is High
- Map B: Water level is Low
- Map C: Corrupted version
- This is a tiny map that will corner your players, It's perfect for a fight to death.
EXAMPLES OF HOW THIS MAP CAN BE USED
- The green liquid might be toxic and cause damage to the players
- The only way to get access to the tank, without taking damage, might be to operate the cranking and lower the dirty water level
- Inside the tank, might be a chest with a reward
- On the left, the conduct covered by webs could host venom spiders, a passage, or something else.
EXAMPLE OF HOW TO USE THE FLESHERING
- It's an alternative version that will raise the level of difficulty.
- In Map A, players cannot operate the cranking as too hard to do so.
- In the Corrupted Map there is an eye on top of the cranking, ready to attack.
- Once the eye is defeated, the cranking can be used.
- There is no chest in the corrupted version, the players must return to the normal version to get their reward.
What is the Fleshering?
The Fleshering is a mysterious evil entity… When fear, hate, violence, and every other negative feeling is strong enough, it becomes the Fleshering, the cancerous blood that corrupts the realms.
You will get to know its true nature more and more as you explore the world of Akktraiser.
The Fleshering could permeate the material world in many ways:
- With rituals
- Sacrifices
- Dark magic
- The presence of powerful entities, flowing from them.
The Fleshering can be extirpated, but it's not easy. Usually, the Flashering draws energy from a Fulcrum of power such as:
- An artifact
- A spell
- A powerful entity
- Excessive corruption of living souls
- A nefarious place
If one of these events ceases to exist or the entity is destroyed the Fleshering will gradually fade away.
