So out of curiosity, why did Harry need to hack the giant to death? Shouldn't the basilisk venom on the blade have done the job?

I think the relationship between Harry and Cedric has been the most well-developed in this story. I mean, with the Flamel's as well, and Dumbledore. But relationships, friendships, with people his own age have been lacking. Great chapter.
