Aaron

So do I read the part one and two and then this one for part 3?

Nicolas Flamel

Good job. This feels much better.

Definitely not a racoon

I waited a couple of days to let original fade from memory and read this and i have to say you made the right decision in retconing the chapter, just looking at the story in the short term it's far better than the original. All in all, i'm willing to pay for the chapters and i'm also willing to let a retcon every 100 or so chapters slide if it means a better story overall.

Chad Hagner

I'm glad the fox hasn't been slain, I can't wait to see what tricks he'll play in the future on our friends at Fa Ram

Nick Marini

Although I think in the last chapter, Nezen already knowing that he looks like his mom before he shapeshifts to tease him does a lot more to build his personality than this version, where Yun Ren simply says it out loud.

Nick Marini

I’ll admit, I got a bit giddy after reading the twist at the end. Especially after reading the 2nd version, it was like a butterfly effect scenario, where an unconscious choice makes a big difference.

Messe

Personally I liked the second version of this chapter the best. they live in a cultivation world showing some of the rotten things that happen in such a world gives contrast to jins farm.

Carl Mason

Well, while I do agree with most of the comments on here about this new/final version of the chapter, if a cultivation sect finds or believes it has found the secret lair of their ancient ancestral enemy who befuddled their great hero and "stole" a sect artifact it would be entirely realistic and reasonable to them that they send an assault force, either a squad of elders or a veritable army of disciples. So even if it didn't work in the end for what you wanted to do, it was a good addition. I do hope this turns out to do what you want and leads the story in the direction it needs to go. It certainly fits better with the overall style of the story to this point.

Jess_2037

This feels much better. This story was never really about the big battles but more so about the characters and that last moment with the fox fits a lot better imo

Deinos

Nooooo! He has to Dieeee! I'm kidding 😁. Well, I'd have preferred if there was a fight still and then he may get away while collapsing the cave but well, it's done, truly now I suppose.

Morog T Tiny

I agree.. I like this better, to have a trickster, trick his way to freedom and instead of his enemies dead, he leaves them for fools.

Andrew Haynes

I like this much better. It would have been sad for the fox to be a red-shirt.

Beardo

It was interesting reading all the versions. This one is the best by far in my opinion.

Jacob Fisher

I love that the fox accidently tricks them here. So good!

taukid

I love it, Yun Ren adding light saved him! And I hope the fix gets to meet the tribe and maybe see the farm.🦊 Then if you kill him it'll be more meaningful and it won't feel like you added him just to kill him off. 😀

Damian

I like this better! The foxy stays alive and can visit another time!

Bookman

Thank god you made the change. While its nice to have importand charaters die to make sure the world is dangerous, its was very frustrating to get introduced to the fox only to see him die 2 chapters later. Good work and thanks for the chapter

Saaski

The fox lives!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😂

Thiemo Guenther

Having the Shrouded Mountain assault team fail in their mission helps support the theme of that Sect being in decline, relying much too much on past glories and treasures, instead of their own strength and/or trying to achieve greater heights than their ancestors. Rejecting the very idea that their target could have managed to find a better way of hiding, was simply at a level beyond the creatures they had hunted so far, is quite the sign of hubris. Especially since so many had died in the attempt to find Nezan before. Some might also make the nasty observation, that maybe the lack of successful detection is a sign that the user of the artifact is lacking...

Osamaru Ta

I'm guessing the "wrong assumption" made was that the Parasite was somehow a lot stronger than it really is?

Idan tal

As was said before, while the previous versions were great (and the second one was amazing) this one of much more fitting to the story. Great writing

Ronin_Ryker

This one is even better than the second one! I sincerely appreciate all of your hard work! I appreciate you letting us know of the retcon, but as a patreon supporter I consider myself a type of beta-reader for your chapters so I 100% expect there to be changes to any given chapter before they go live. You certainly don't need to apologize about changing things around to better suit the world and themes of the story.

Arnon Parenti

This chapter was a roller coaster on a whole different level You could play the attack as an illusion done by the fox on yun ren as part of his formations lesson montage

Cristi Palincas

I like this one the best! Keeps the feel of the story going better than the sad ones

Lord McDeath

Honestly. I much prefer this version. It makes the world more interesting. And maybe the Fox will come to the Farm.

Chevron8

"Nezan smiled fondly at the boy. Truly, he was blessed by the heavens to have such a fortunate encounter." It took me three readings before I realized that it is NEZAN who is having the fortunate encounter with Yun Ren, not the other way around. A reversal of the usual trope.

Kristof Dohrmann

In this version it's not vital for the plot, rather it serves as worlbuilding, establishes possible, future points of conflict (maybe if Yun Ren runs into someone from the shrouded mountain) and ties the world together.

Matt

This is everything I came here to say, totally agree.

Leander

Probably when a bunch of us started grumbling on the discord

the Laser Buddha

Thank you ☺️

Red Viking

Nice.

Kristof Dohrmann

I have to disagree here, I think it is still relatively clear. Although I also think that Yun Ren should notice the sword within a few chapters. In this version it's not as important of a plot point in comparison to before and therefore some people might forget about it, if it isn't discovered in a reasonable amount of time. You don't want people to be like: "Huh? Where does the sword come from?".

General Use Only

I prefer this more simply because the Foxes end was rather anticlimactic in the original draft. A beast hundreds of years old like that can't simply die from a "Young Master" from a low to mid-tier sect. Perhaps his death could use some justification such as old age or crippling wounds. It would help maintain the suspension of disbelief.

Seaspike

That's exactly what happened.

Seaspike

Lu Ban, but he's not a reincarnation. He met his stolen body in person, killed the soul and moved in the body.

Tzeneth

I will admit, I do like this ending a lot more. The sect falling into the more regularly a-hole sect treatment, the secret scroll of power, and the sect being defeated by the bumbling of one of Fa Ram's disciples thinking about things is so appropriate for the theme and tone of the story. Much better than the bittersweet tones of the previous versions.

The Lost Pages

You did a fabulous job with all 3 versions. Each better than the last. And I must admit I liked this the most of all. It also makes a lot more sense this way too. And I think it also fits with the mood of the story better too.

Ironforge

Huh, well if the fox is going to stay around this time that does make me wonder how much of boost Yun Ren's clan is about to get. Since having a powerful ancestral beast looking out for and helping them is going to change some things for sure.

BRUNO ASTUR

the fox lives. Yes.

Isaac Martinez

When was the moment that you knew, that you f*@c up?

Adam Daw

Great job - I like the inadvertent use of light bypassing the detection, and the changes in behavior on sect side. Everything fits more.

Sean Ulrich

I like to think using light with the technique made the Shadow Sensor not work

Kevin Caffrey

I like it, but the foreshadowing about the sword being swapped might be a little too thin in this version (assuming you kept this plot point).

JohnZ

Btw was it Kang or Lu Ban who was a reincarnated immortal? Don’t remember which one is which.

Seadrake

Much better, the attitude of the "elder brother" also fits the shrouded mountain sect's current attitude more.

Xtriver

I'm kind of confused about why the attack happened, the artifact sure but why is it vital to the plot?

Kristof Dohrmann

The lighter ending of this arc fits the overall feel of the story much better.
