Another vote for "keep them both"! But if I had to choose, I'd keep all of this one, and add snippets from the other one as the narrative permitted.

Ashlee Jacobsen

This chapter is a great counterpoint to the other. I feel like we still need snippets of lu bans pov cause the planning. And I so wonder if Jin will end up going to the peaks

STORRM

i really loved this chapter! its so light and happy vs the other one with its sinister undertones it's like the other side of the coin so much from from the other. if there's a way to have them both in 1 chapter or just some snippets of the other one i think it will be worth it. also loved " World-shaking revelations should be done one at a time."

matthew gilley

The same event from multiple viewpoints is great story telling

paul Emmer

I like both versions and I wished both were included your writing is impressive and a pure delight to read so take advice but trust your keen skill it has gotten you this far

Beardo

Love this chapter.

Messe

I like this chapter as well but I prefer the old one sad it's being removed.

Nick

I like this chapter more. I think there's still a need for LuBans pov to be inserted somewhere but I'm not sure where you would put it in.

AlbusScitus

I think this is what I appreciate most about the patron. Not the early access, but the fact that you listen to us readers, and make changes based on our commentary. Also I feel like the quality of the chapter greatly increased and fits better with the tone and style of the other chapters.

The Lost Pages

I really like this chapter. The luban chapter was... ok. I don't mind the viewpoint shift. But overall I prefer the content from this chapter a lot more. The ending was perfect too.

Jeff Petkau

No need to apologize when you rewrite something! It's just "Woot! Bonus BoC!" for us readers.

Nick

I like both chapters, but with Lu Bans perspective, you end with a sick feeling in your gut, because he is actively targeting Xiulan. In the revised chapter, there's more just a hint that he's going to go after her in some way.

aj0413

Btw, I did get an email notification today which was nice; seems like that issue was fixed?

Stav Tri

I enjoyed this chapter quite a lot but I also enjoyed the version before as well. It might do well to upload both as a dual perspective, but if it had to be one or the other, this current chapter takes the cake.

taukid

Man, whenever you redo a chapter, it always ends up being one of my favorites

David Bean

I liked this chapter so much more. It would be a shame if it wasn’t in the story. We know what a scum bag Lu Ban is, and we instead get a sense of foreboding when she looks at him instead of disgust from being in his head. Plus, delightful scenes like in the restaurant here are what this story is all about, not some guy thinking of all the horrible things he can do to some woman.

Midjji

Yeah the shivers and memories he got when thinking of stuff yo close to what jin punished him for might even be signs of a lingering curse

CatOnTheWeb

I’d say Lu Ban’s POV would depend largely on what was intended from that scene in overall narrative. Having his perspective just for the sake of ‘oh ho look at how evil he is,’ is unnecessary at this point given we’ve seen how much of a scumbag he is multiple times. Xiulan’s shiver when she realizes he was eying her is a good way of reminding us about him. However, if you want us to see his uncertainty, and remind us how Jin is still haunting him, especially as foreshadowing and setup for something later on, then his perspective would be good for that.

rhekke

I did not notice it until you pointed it out, but you hit the nail on the head with Lu Ban's entitlement as well as his parallels to the original Rou Jin. Both were street orphans, raised by skilled cultivators, then left to their own devices. I can't help but think how closer Rou Jin would be to Lu Ban if he had not "died".

C Davidson

Yep, liked this better.

Ichypa

I like both part. Honestly, Lu Ban is probably my third favorite character, I love to hate him. Given how excellent a foil he is to Jin on many levels, simply expanding the avenues in which he foils might help him be more rounded, or intersperse Lu Ban’s POV’s with Jin’s sections, rather than scattering him among the rest of the gang’s, to make the contrast more defined. Heck, I liked even the small things, like Jin enjoying his alcohol and not getting drunk, even if it seems like it was mostly mortal stuff, while Lu Ban was desperately trying to get drunk and regarded probably the finest cultivator spirits the Azure Hills could produce as “swill.” If it helps, the aspect that I like the most about Lu Ban, that defines him beyond his greed and his arrogance, is the way he seems to view everything through the lens of what he is OWED. To me this specifically makes his different from other villains of his ilk, or villains of the ilk he is pretending to be. Distinct from feeling what he has is something he has earned, or deserves, or is entitled to, it is OWED to him. His is not the evil that believes that his power and wealth is “rightfully his” or something, it is the evil that believes the entire world owes him a debt, and to take from others is just him extracting payment. I admit, it’s kind of a subtle distinction from a generic arrogant Young Master, but it’s one that is core to why I like Lu Ban a lot more that similar villains.

Impending should be impeding when Tigu is taking with her mouth full

Characture -> caricature

This chapter had a lot of good feels,

ChanceOfFoxin

Let's be honest the real thing we want to know is the rest of that song!

Prinny Knight

Just keep both chapters, each a half of a whole.

Brian P.

There's a few repeated phrases in this, such as the stuttering power of Rags and Loud Boy. But if those were removed or changed on one of them then I agree they could simply be a second chapter, giving CF more of a buffer.

Ozark

I really liked this revision, but the last chapter was fine, too. Getting to know how big of a scum bag Lu Ban is will just make it much more satisfying when he gets slapped down.

Zeta

Idk chief, I liked both. maybe put the luban pov chapter in as a 71.5 maybe?

Malthe Mørk Mejlby

"loudboy" to "Loud Boy", "Mountain. The" also needs a space "loudly demanded" and "beating. The" both have double spaces

Chevron8

IMO this is by far the better chapter. Also, email notification worked for this onw.

Evan

Thing is, with Lu Ban and other villains in other stories like him, there's a problem. People tend to /not give a shit/ about them. They're the kind of scum that exists only to be stomped on, and any interaction or dwelling on them is a waste of time that could be spent on better characters and more amusing storylines. He exists, cool. Too bad he's evil filth, so his parts ore only worth scanning through to see if he's finally getting pasted by his betters. His view does not matter, his drive doesn't either. His thoughts are as pointless to see as his words.

nothingtoseehere

Both this chapter and Lu Ban's Viewpoint are worth including yea, but I think it is important to make it clear how villainous the villain is before the (presumed) confrontation. The Lu Ban viewpoint makes the upcoming conflict clear, and also makes it clear we should hate him

MountHermon

I don't mind you messing around with the chapters. I like seeing "how the sausage is made" as they say! Fascinating view into the writing process

Casualfarmer

That too is a good perspective. People certainly didn't like the Rat arc in volume one when it happened, but I like what came out of it. I don't want to go for "by popular voice", and some things are going to get a bit dark. But I do think that this was a good addition of a chapter. Lu Ban's stuff is still canon. Hes still like that, its jsut it may be moved to an interlude or something. I'll have to think on it. again, the perils of writing webfiction. I just try to do my best, and keep things moving.

John Pratt

You could keep, at least part of, both. The view Xiulan has of the fights involves a lot more familiar characterization, and the scene of them eating after is delightful and has real character development and a bit of payoff in it. I think you could include parts of the Lu Ban perspective in this chapter for the best of both worlds. Start with Lu Ban, then switch to Xiulan for the fights, then transition back Lu Ban during the stare to show him getting horned up for Xiulan. I think this transition could really double down on a sense of impending conflict, then move back to Xiulan at the meal as a sort of palate cleanser.

11037

It seems to be a pattern that these retcons occur mostly when the story moves into darker content. On one hand that isn't too big a deal as this story doesn't really need too much of that, but on the other hand I'd say that the story direction shouldn't be determined by popular vote. Respond to feedback, but don't be afraid to have some dark elements in the story if that makes it better.

Anna Turner

Do you like lemons?

Anna Turner

Thank you for your hard work Mr Author <3

BaguaBrady

agreed wholeheartedly with all of this On read over I see that rags did lift loud boy's hands in this version too, just after being helped up first. My guess is the Lu Ban chapter would get a more positive response if this was available to read directly after. I think you have conditioned your readers to expect a dose of goodness with your releases and thus the strong response when the feels are so negative.

Hey I got notified

I see Meiling is infecting people. Also, good call changing it I think. The villain POV was a bit too stereotypical and somehow lacked emotion and drive - not that he has none but the guy seems to have two traits: greed and deviousness and that's just too little for a fully rounded character when he isn't in the middle of a struggle but rather in a slower slice of life part.

Kyle

Great chapter.

Ask-if-I-like-lemons

Yeah me too. Dunno why the others don't.

Jerry harris

I like this chapter a lot better we know he is a bad guy and it feels better to see more perspective of the characters

Ben Allen

I love how you seek to improve

Midjji

Id say keep them both, they are both good, its important that there are some foul characters as contrast too. And it wasnt stereotypical, in particular as he is aware he is evil. Most mc type young masters would also believe themselves not just maligned and superior, but good. Though there is one thing i really liked in the old chapter missing in the new. In the old, rags lifts the winning boys hand, rather than the other way around around which fits better with cambraderie as it means he is celebrating the win of his friend, rather than boy beeong a magninmaous winner. A small change to this chapter could fix yhat though.

Ben Allen

Hazzah! I got a notification for the chapter.

Marco Zorbach

...That is a very spry old whore indeed.

Ask-if-I-like-lemons

Yoow. This chapter was awesome. I never even thought that the original version was different. You could put this as chapter 72 and no one would notice

Luker number 5

Both good chapters, I did like how Lu Ban had started huffing his own hype but this addressing just how dangerous his sect is to the entirety of Azure Hills is also good.

Deathburn

Ooh, got the notification for this one

Andrew

Thank you!

kaalveiten

Gotta say Jin's wrestling entrance theme hits differently from most entrance themes.
