Are telling me that your family and friends in Texas walk around talking down to people and used profanity in professional settings? You telling me that is how an average texan behave? Yea! U make absolute sense. Perhaps Texans that i work with are different or maybe Houston and Dallas are not just part of Texas u describing.

ForsakenChief

I have no intention of arguing. Your naivety is showing, clearly you have not met the Texans I've known & met. I have family and friends all over who would stomp all over that naive view you hold. I'll leave it at that, keep your goggles fogged, the truth hidden beyond is far more unforgiving.

PFCTX

Probs a warlock considering he was scared of the gun. If he was a summoner he’d have had the brains to know how to implement earth’s technology. Which means he probably just advanced normally without actually caring about combat practice or training, just going for weak, un-tempered power to up his level. Not an elite by any means for his authority. Plus probs won’t make it to authority 12/ get through the great barrier. Probs coasted with earth science knowledge to get through the warlock ranks

stillme

Its funny cause i have been living and working in Texas for past 10 years. So, No, people don't use profanity at thier work places especially to people they don't know. Being loyal to your friends doesn't mean u should be aggressive to every other person. The nobles are not great set of people, but he hasn't been exceptional characters either. The way he treated the king was absurd. He has no reason to be that rude at that point, even American president gives the monarchy of other nations thier due respect. Before u argue any further, I'll advice u to read chapter 1 to 25 again, then compare his characters then to what he is now. Now, he arrogant, he can make 2 statements without telling himself how smart or great he is. Meanwhile, if he wasn't a summoners or didn't meet those people like key master, maxwell etc, he most likely wouldn't even be at vesty level of success.

“The Luigi”

Hmmmmmm…now that you mentioned it!

“The Luigi”

It’s literally in John’s blood to distrust the Nobility of ANY world…they’re all the same.

“The Luigi”

RIGHT??? This story is the SOLE reason as to why I became a Patreon supporter for the first time! I can FEEL John’s frustration…

OzzHunter

This is the way!

ForsakenChief

I honestly think it has more to do with how long it took him to decide to be useful, he made it clear he was already aware of Johns origins. John, having only shared this info with a couple people at this point and only after having been through all that he has so far before sharing it, likely took that as a slap in the face rather than the hint of possible like mindedness that vatsy likely intended it as. Especially since John knew who Vatsy was, how much power he had before John did and how preceptively little he did for the effort against the scourge with said power. Only to find out that he is also from his world? John already has issues with people in the military who hang back, guarantee their safety and run away at the first sign of trouble. You think he's gonna let that slide from one of the most powerful figures of the black markets/ trenches? Whose name has been passed around John since he arrived? Nope, i can't say I disagree with John's verbal lashing of the man. What i will se is this, if he proves useful and John continues to behave this way for too long, then I'll have issues.

ForsakenChief

Facts... the weekend Stretch is Brutal 😭

ForsakenChief

This, John may have been over the line but maybe the moment was designed that way to allow Umara to shine. John isn't a Mary sue, he can't be good at everything. Umara being his foil, his counter, his other half and complementing him where he falls short is a wonderful dynamic for the two.

ForsakenChief

Same!

ForsakenChief

You seem to have lost the plot my dude... He behaves that way because of several factors. The most important of which is, he knows he's physically the weakest in the room (think small dog, loud annoying barks) but, it is deeper than that: A: His background as an American & Texan to boot. If you ever met one, you'd know they are fiercely loyal to their friends and can be down right villainous to anyone who hurts their peace, their calm and their friends/family. B: He was brought to this world after being killed by a Sentient semi truck that shouldn't exist in his world. This adds to his need to control what is around him so he can limit further events of powerlessness. Also, this prevented him from having the benefit of maturing and being an adult once already, which, our brittish compadre here seems to have benefitted from. So of course John is not going to behave like a man who matured in a 1st world earth country. He became an adult in a world with the scourge, where the only way he has survived is luck and grit. And even with that has almost died many times now. He's not well adjusted emotionally/ mentally by our worlds standards at all. But then again, most of the adults in this story are not. C: and most importantly, as a summoner, he is painfully aware that he is no different, physically speaking, as any other human in the face of Knights, Warlocks and the Scourge. Even if he is a taller, stronger example of a normal human, he will never compare to the above classes at his own authority, some even a couple authorities below could still put his life at risk. His only saving grace is his guns and his willingness to shove them in the face of anyone/thing that happens to threaten his path forward. D: taking the above into account: now add in that he is risking his life to improve/ verify and unknown path for summoners, one that if maxwell even gets one thing wrong with the advancement circles, could cripple his mental faculties as Maxwell has already proven with his own limitations to a spectacular degree. So in conclusion: Is he a mental savant with the gift for gab who can sway anyone to his side with but a word. Nope. Thats Not John Cooper, there are Texans like that, but he's not it. John Cooper is an American child, brought to a world of Monsters and inexplicable magic as a teenager at worst, young adult at best. He never matured enough or learned enough to benefit from our ways of thinking. He also got thrown straight into the streets of the addicted, deranged and malicious. So of course he's gonna rely on what works. And this world has taught him to rely on his ability to scare people with his summons, be aggressive, be ruthless and never show weakness. This world has also shown him that, most people pining for his attention never cared before. So having someone show up late to the party super insistent and making it seem like they can do you any favors makes "Who the fuck are you" a simple, direct and justified method of saying "you've taken this long to step up, you've harassed my staff to see me, why should I care who you are at this stage?" If after all this ya still have issues, maybe consider Checking out Origin Seeker, that MC (Dream) takes a very different path with his otherworldly shenanigans.

ForsakenChief

You are not wrong 🤣🤣🇺🇸🇺🇸

Aizen Weeks

20 years married and she just told him to stop antagonizing the neighbor

Aizen Weeks

Other worlders seem to have advantages. Dreaming alone seems to be a superpower

Aizen Weeks

I was expecting some 1776 reference from John

Aizen Weeks

Like many brilliant people. We got a glimpse of it when he realized the mana bomb potential. He is dangerous to those in his way because he is obsessively focused on he's goal and none shall stop him from victory.

stillme

John always says he is very smart, may be he is, but he is not wise or intelligent. He can hardly convince an enemy without the use of force. I'm yet to see him win an enemy to his side with just words. He acts like a child with lot of knowledge with a powerful brain processor. If he wasn't a summoners, he will just be another dull but powerful and brave soilder

stillme

Its because he is an asshole who thinks he is better than everybody. Disrespectful and arrogant. Without those who helped him along the way, without maxwell exceptional advancement formation or swun money, power and influence, can he achieve half of what he had achieved? The MC is making it so hard to like him

stillme

I cant help but dislike this MC, his arrogant knows no bond. He throws tantrum everytime something pisses him off. If he wasn't a summoners, did he think he would have the brain and memory to do what he has done so far?. He treats nobody outside his godfriend (girlfriend) with respect. Used profanity like deranged guy or teenagers. What an asshole. How can u say "who the fuck are u" to a complete stranger? When u have no idea who and what they want. How cringe can u be if can't go 5 minute without stating how smart u are. No wise person will idolize himself like our MC done so far. I missed the matured minded John of chapter 1 to 20

IdolTrust

She finally got her alpha form. She is the face of the couple while he is the brains.

Cristian Valencia

Bros, this chapter is fucking good o had to read it three times… gdi its worth paying for this

Oliver Hand

It's established that the more money you have, the easier it is to become more powerful. We don't know if he is a summoner, knight, or warlock, but it wouldn't surprise me if he could afford the tutelage and the materials necessary to get that far. And my bet is definitely not a summoner, but I could be wrong.

Matt Ober

my thought as well

Steve B

Exactly!!! He had maxwell give him items worth millions of coin AND the best methods for advancing for a summoner in the whole kingdom.

JollyRodger

Vatsy being a Englishman didn't help not pissing John off. He has had a lot of trouble with nobles and the English nobles of old didn't work well with Americans of old. Yeah, seeing a rich Englishman acting like old school nobility after everything John's been through would have pissed me off also. Fuck that guy

JollyRodger

I'm not all the way convinced vatsy isn't connected to that run in with the third claw.

Roaring waters

I don’t think what we saw was xenophobia on John’s part, it was like the only defining characteristic John knew of him and really went to town on. I mean not encouraging said behavior or defending John, it was definitely wrong, but it was def more frustration than anything else.

Trent Myers

Anyone else wondering how Someone who appears to only be concerned with money and influence managed to reach level 9

john Vargas

If a politician or gangster comes to you with a proposition to help you with a problem you can be assured he created that problem to extort you.

ForsakenChief

"Yes Dear" was the most American thing to come out of his mouth in several chapters. I'm dying from laughter here.

Connor Kill

These last paragraphs of two chapters have been insanely funny

Eltirno

Firstly, wow. Did a Brit piss in your cereal? Secondly, James???

Nicolae

so, Aerials are Turing complete

Oliver Hand

I appreciate John finally getting called out. Yes, he's a genius, but he's also so hellbent on doing everything he can himself that he neglects trying to make connections that could make his life that much easier. I also think he forgets that he had probably the luckiest start he could ever have as a summoner, and the others who were brought here may not have had the same luck.

Jim Owens

Smart man, he will learn to listen to his wife, and let her use her strengths to do the part he hates. It's what you do in a marriage.

Joseph Underwood

He was right. Pompous pretentious Brits are useless limey bastards. If Vatsy had of actually tried rather then be a blueblooded limey fuck John would have more then likey treated him like a Churchill rather then a King James.....

OzzHunter

TLDR - Amazingly intense chapter Spade. Great character developement and world building. The emotional trial was viseral. Well done. What I fail to see a lot in the comments is how strong Umara had to be to stand before John in his moment of rage and blindness. He legit scared the shit out of her. Yet, she had enough strength and trust in their bond to stand and check him on the spot. As a good woman does, and as a good man he listened....eventually. This has been an amazing moment of character development, and world building. As much as these two have been through. They are still young college age kids that did not have time to developed the discipline and development to deal with all their trauma and stress properly. John was bound to pop at some point. Now he has to realize he truly isn't alone. Umara is the other side to their coin, and she has chosen to stand with him back to back for keeps. It has this marine screaming fucking Oorah!

Tetsuya Cox

The only thing I hate is that today is a Thursday, so we need to wait another 5 days to get another chapter.

Gingix

I think he is realizing that after Umara had to put him in his place. He may be hyper intelligent but that doesn't mean that he knows how to deal with everything.

Rcmrocks

They remind me of Unaras parents

LolGamez

Idk this brit doesn't seem to have the same mentality as the kind of brit that wages war. You are right, but it might have to do more with this individual rather than mere xenophobia

Eltirno

For someone who is supposedly well versed in military history, John is being a complete douchebag with his hate on Brits. OK, this particular dude is an ass, but Britain was in both world wars from day 1 until the very end. Unlike literally everyone else.

SaltyOne

This is a good first step for him to deal with his emotions and the other obstacles in his way to fight the scourge.

J.R. Turner

Now, that was what I wanted since Umara got her crown. She can now stand up beside John and give him emotional support and release. It's time for a wedding. Trust me, a Texas-raised man does better when he has someone who loves and understands him at his side. Spade, excellent world-building, and very nice to have this story to read. Just waiting for the next installment.

Travis Freeman

Well done Umara!!

J.R. Turner

And there is the answer to your question: Marine. You know that even with your own training when you are overly tired working on dealing with a very heavy deployment, even Marines do not do well with someone who wants to do publicity photos when you are trying to save lives. Nuke them all, let God sort them out.

bryce york

Don't forget he isn't a marine, he was a college student who was forced into this world when he was on his way to a job interview.

LolGamez

Tbf he was dropped into that life. Probably going to be character development, as this is the first time we've seen him blow up like that. Hard to blame him too much, though he's obviously still responsible for his actions, when he not just dealing with trauma but also ushering a new form of war by himself

Roaring waters

Fucking hell. Intense.

Greg D

The line "I'm too smart to make mistakes" keeps coming up, and I think John's going to learn he's wrong about that

TangiblyTrashy

That is not at all how I thought Vatsy's first encounter would go. And ofc he's a brit, it makes so much sense looking back.

Veldahar

I kinda hate how he’s a fucking child. Get mad explode with rage yada yada. I hope this is character development and not how “Americans” are. I deployed 5 times. Will give you the shirt off my back. Also have a plan to kill everyone I meet. Like a good marine.

Burkholt

So therapy? Because he really needs it. Tho I doubt he could find anyone to help. Maybe someone in the church? Not like he'd want to take the time to actually deal with his emotions because that would be a 'waste' of time. Right now he's just burying it under piles and piles of work. So not healthy and he will probably have another breakdown again.

Jordan Adams

Dude needs a stress ball

LolGamez

Umara must've been sent by God himself. What a woman haahah

Grey Knight Lord

Wow, John really is going off the deep end. He really needs to calm down otherwise he won’t have anything left
