i think you're absolutely correct about the subtle subversion of expectations and i think this can really be seen w the characters and their given tropes, esp the main trio and gojo. at face value it's really easy to group the main trio into your typical anime protag types and friendship dynamics (determined heart of gold protag, cold stoic emo boy, confrontational/"bitchy" female character) but they have a lot of nuance outside their given character types
