I feel like JJK and Demon Slayer are perfect examples of modern anime from learning the mistakes and complaints of past/old anime. As an old anime watcher you can appreciate the lack of filler and speed of it. For someone who just got into anime (like Sam) it can be a bit much and a lot thrown at you in terms of power system and quickness to/of fights. And it's catering towards modern anime watchers. When you've sat through fights lasting 10+ episodes and monologues taking up most of fight times you can understand the hype of people for these kinds of animes.
