I love this episode because it illustrates the totalitarian high society of the nobles who in of itself is a product of the corrupted regime of the world. Then we see three kids, come together by circumstances and are now considered a brotherhood who want to go against the world’s views, defy their existence that they are born into and instead be free. We have always known these themes to be so present throughout one piece but here I love how it’s all sort of recontextualized in this one episode. Oda at his best here!

Now you can kind of see why Luffy was getting stuck a lot early in the series 🤣 while it was annoying and plot devicy at times, his progression is actually pretty natural and well written. There was no "key" moment where he figured things out, he simply got better over time.

Now you've seen that there's a third brother, it makes you wonder what Oda was cooking in Marineford when they land from the scaffold Ace, Luffy both looking badass and a lopsided Mr Three (a symbolic stand-in in that moment ? Foreshadowing ?).

If you remember from the previous arc, they showed a flashback of the sake scene, with just Ace and Luffy. This along with the fact that none of the other flashbacks showed Sabo, might make you believe that Sabo was retconned in. But in fact, in the sake scene in the manga, you can clearly see the shadow of a third sake cup in the panel, alluding to the existence of Sabo. You can also see it in the anime, I think a little less pronounced. When asked about this, Oda said it was in fact a deliberate addition, he just couldn't introduce Sabo during that arc as it would have been too confusing.

Cool fact : You can actually see the scene of the 3 brothers exchanging Sakazuki cups back in episode 467 (Chapter 558) during Marineford. At the 19:29 timestamp. There's a third shadow on the edge of the frame👀

That scene with the ramen was definitely added for Naruto's VA, In the manga we just cut away to them dine and dashing. The restaurant was also called '' Fine Dining Eiichiro '' lol.
