Another little funny coincidence about Carson bringing up Saddam's Ba'ath party purge is also how a quite recent example of a dictator relying on a drug to stay in power is Assad – the other most prominent Ba'athist ruler. Though unlike funny mustache man and Hody, who used theirs to physically enhance their troops, Assad had parts of his military actually produce & smuggle it. Assad's Captagon empire (worth 3x more than all Mexican cartels' ops combined) is what kept his regime financially afloat throughout all the civil war, while also used as a bargaining chip to blackmail Syria's neighbouring countries.
