Its really all due to bad pacing, Whitebeard war arc has some of the worst pacing but its overshadowed by tons of the hype moments. As for Luffy, he is the main character, and they need him too do something, even if its just running, otherwise fans would complain.

Many things look different to us with adult experience and sensibilities. I notice this a lot with One Piece since watching it in my early teens. The early episodes of this series are nearly unwatchable to me. I just check in at the big moments. Some things don't age well and tastes change. Don't feel bad! That being said, the subplots and themes of One Piece are still some of my favorites in anime, so I stick with it, enjoy react/discussion content, and even read the manga (the best way to consume this series IMHO).

I'm rewatching One Piece together with you and, man, I really think the last 2/3 episodes are not that great. Just Luffy running around in this battlefield and getting saved too many times, and the cringy Boa Hancock running gags, I mean, he should have died against Mihawk. Why make these two characters fight in the first place? I don't know, maybe It's because I watched it as a kid but I remember this part to be way better than what it looks to me now. Not the whole arc I mean, just the last episodes. Also all the cut the cameras stuff, why broadcast a war in the first place? I really don't understand. It looks surreal but not in a clever way. Please don't hate me guys 😭

*On why Mihawk doesn’t cut the other ships*. He really doesn’t care for people unless they’re strong/Infamous enough that they warrant his attention. Instead of trying to make sure the whitbeard pirates fail by attacking all of em he decides to single out Luffy because he’s curious about what Shanks sees in him, which then leads to him being preoccupied with Vista because he’s crossing swords with someone who has a reputation and then taking his eyes off him to look at luffy while still fighting him.

Actually, Sqward is part of a deep underground organization called the Phantom Troupe. All the members have spider tattoo’s. They are a bounty S class ranked syndicate that has committed heinous crimes and brutal atrocities. There leaders name is Chrollo and there target has always been whitebeard. You will find out more about it later in the story.

Squard sure did his thing... I love the use of negatives for the characters' shocked faces. In the manga too those panel were in negatives. I think before that the only time that effect was used was with Sanji fighting Absalom of all fights lol
