Not touched on here, but I think the fakeout the creators were going for before was to make us believe Tarrlok and Amon were the same person. So this sudden confrontation between the two of them, clearly showing them as different people, was a big revelation. At least, that's how I remember it when I first watched it.

Fun Fact. The adult version of Toph is voiced by Kate Higgins who voiced Sakura from Naruto and a few other characters also have VA’s who voiced characters in that series as well, but their Korra characters haven’t been introduced yet.
