Yes this, exactly. Love how oda is questioning the philosophical notion of evil/pure good, right/wrong and giving us a means to reflect on that moral answer and what it represents. It is just so deep and provides a new way of looking at things.

lol well. to be fair, the direction behind it could have been better placed. Maybe during a more comedic episode instead of ruining the presence of Blackbeard and Hannyball's moral speech. Because these were very interesting points of the CH. But instead the sappy flashback sort of ilicited some kind of sympathy that we are supposed to feel and that isn't the way oda would set up a tragic character story in the series. The the pee gag being combined into the same episode just put to much focus on this and the other moments of the ep which alot of people have discussed in the comments have little impact.

Oda should have written it because the buggy pee gag is arguably the peak of the series. You just don't understand peak literature

one thing to add about that, the fandom has been talking about this for years and one of the things that comes up is that the gears shortening Luffy's life is not a sure thing since Lucci is the source for this and he is not a doctor or a devil fruit expert, he could be right but he could also be totally off

Also, gear 2 is really about the increased metabolism, not shave. Or else CP9 would turn pink too

No, strenghting his body might make him able to use shave without gear 2. But gear 2 IS bumping blood with the rubber in his body, in order to increase metabolism. anytime he does that its bad for his health.

In water 7 the gears take away from luffy's lifespan due to his body not being able to keep up with it. Luffy was able to do Shave (kicking the ground repeatedly within a second) by pumping blood through his heart faster. But all the cp9 members have built up their body to do it without needing a rubber heart. Implying, for me, that strengthing your body over time could negate that stress. Like Deku in MHA with OFA.

I love blackbeards first lines when he enters into the scene “all this arguing about right and wrong, search to the ends of the earth, and you’d find no answer!” Really interesting characterization; because luffy and Hannibal are arguing over who’s right and who’s wrong and black beards basically saying “your both wrong because you thinks there’s a right and wrong in the first place”

The pee gag with buggy and the flashback of hannyball are filler, please ignore them. They overshadow the main point of the episode and is just another example of horrible padding. Oda didn't write that drivel.

Need to take a hard look at this episode maybe refer back to it in your podcast, there is so many deep insightful one liners here that have much expressive insight for the story. I specifically loved Hannyabal's moral point about what constitutes peace in this world against the pirates and how impel down is a structure to ensure the safety of the citizens. Hany actually has convictions to stand up for what he believes in. For a moment, he became humanized more instead of just a comedic relief villain. I also love all of the dialogue with Blackbeard and a refresher on what ace said during there fight.

Yep that is how oda's expansive universe is. Thats why the live action felt a bit more linear in that respect and not near as multi-faceted as the anime/manga. Specifically with Garp's role in the live action. Hopefully they changed this in S2. Garp doesn't just exist for luffy and coby's sake.

Idk what’s going to happen after this saga story wise, but I’m getting the idea this is a huge turning point in the series So depending on how things go, it might be the perfect time to pause episodes for a couple weeks and catch up on all the material we’ve been skipping. Like any specials, movies, OPs, or even fillers We can have about 1-3 weeks of solid extra content But we’ll see when we get there. I love Hanyaball in this episode. He has been a meme character for sure but in reality he is trying to prevent thousands of criminals from re-entering the world. We know Luffy is a good guy but this dude is standing on business, risking his life for the sake of the world

and thus finally comes one of my favorite scenes in the whole series. The face off against black beard and Luffy, showing the difference and size and height them standing next to each other. This was ripped straight from the manga because it was such a detailed panel.

I think what we have to understand is that even though Luffy is our main character, he is in no way the “main character” in the op universe, many things happen that have no connection to him, and even if he is a infamous pirate, he isn’t a main player
