a little bit of information of the Ladies in waiting: similar to western society Ladies in waiting are usually from good families and come along with a given lady to keep her company and help with more frivolous/aesthetic things and household management (they also serve as a status symbol). Most consorts have servants to do things like clean and cook (hence why Lihua's ladies didn't know how to wash her or do laundry properly). Gyokuyou is a notable exception in that she has very few ladies and no personal servants, so her ladies do everything themselves (except for things that are done by the larger general staff of the rear palace)

Yeah I think this show does a really good job at hitting the exact point where it's like "well this is nice and all but is it gonna be episodic all the way through?" to circle us back around to show that plot points can be followed up on :)

After seeing all of season one, this is still one of my favorite episode. I just love the care Maomao has for her patient and though the courtesan’s story is so very sad, they are not trying to make it a tear jerker, its just a bittersweet feeling of loss but having to move on.
