I always imagined sea prism stone to affect Luffy in a way where he loses control of his body and goes all mushy because he's made of rubber, maybe?

Yagi di Hoshi

LOOSEY-GOOSEY DEVIL FRUIT LOGIC ! i always thought they were the easiest thing to understand aside from any other illogical thing in the series but i think the paradigm by this point kinda shifted

boredbeck

Yeah basically, rain and drinking water. πŸ™

Sanji Joestar

You mean the action of drinking water yeah it doesn't affect them

boredbeck

yep! that's why I said "Seawater makes them weak, seawater as in ANY part of body of water...so rivers and lakes are sometimes freshwater but those also comes from the sea etc. - Freshwater (drinking water) and rain doesn't affect devil fruit users." Maybe how I framed it was hard to understand...but basically any part of submerged water makes them weak....drinking water and raindrops does not.

Sanji Joestar

There's no difference between seawater and freshwater Check the sbs for volume 41 Oda already answered it

Jack Shadow

Kalifa is actually the weakest CP9

boredbeck

Basically this is the rule for Devil Fruit users: - Seawater makes them weak, seawater as in ANY part of body of water...so rivers and lakes are sometimes freshwater but those also comes from the sea etc. - Freshwater (drinking water) and rain doesn't affect devil fruit users. The amount of "weakness" depends on how much the character can "tolerate" it, some faint, some just get weaker, some will grunt, etc...but the general rule is their powers are rendered unusable while submerged in seawater...some can touch seawater and STILL have their powers for a few seconds, but they sooner or later lose the power temporarily, definitely...and they definitely become hammers in the sea, they can't swim. Sea prism stone got the same "energy" as seawater, so if a devil fruit user touches them, it gives the same effect. Character's tolerance vary (some probably trained to be able to tolerate it a bit, or their willpower is just that strong...Luffy is an idiot by the way so he reacts to things without thinking), but they will lose power upon contact or being submerged by seawater.

Clockwerk9000

Got my facts mixed up your right

Fabulous

I know they can’t swim anymore if they have devil fruit but does fresh water also weakens them? I thought it was the sea water that can weaken them

Fabulous

Kumadori is a toad sage ninja that is why he looks a lot like jiraiya. He even has the jutsu that jitaiya has where his hair grows outward to attack

Sanji Joestar

Ah mdrrr je vois

Saer

Saer le senegalais sur twittter mdrrr

Jeremy

Can’t wait to see the reaction to 290 chopper time

Sanji Joestar

Mdrr wait c'est qui

klairvoyage

Yeah it just makes you too weak to use your DF powers, which essentially works like negation, UNLESS it is a permanent passive, such as Luffy being made of rubber (as seen in Arlong Park, when he was stuck at the bottom of the ocean & his neck was still able to stretched) a Logia user drowning would not be able to switch their body to their elemental form

Saer

ptdrr frere on regarde trop les memes choses

Gino

This was a fun episode, i agree the rules of water is always vague, even if he clarified it in the SBS.

Adam Vialpando

I guess I can understand that logic. Plus Jabra has been goofy as hell too. One of the fun parts about this arc is how fluid things are. In previous arcs once the Straw Hats found their opponents they basically just locked in until the fight was over. Here people move around and switch opponents based on who would be a better match.

BOLDcast

Just misremembered and to me she seems pretty strong I guess if I’m thinking about it it’s because she’s the third most important cp9 agent, so I would assume it would go with that And because sanji is the third strongest straw hat ig I just messed myself up with these backward assumptions

Adam Vialpando

I'm still wondering where the heck they got the idea Kalifa was 3rd strongest. Jabra made a big fuss that same scene that Kaku was ranked just slightly higher than him.

Sanji Joestar

Perfectly said

EOussama

Chibi Luffy is so cute. Man Kumadori chilling in the fridge and not getting to finish off his slow showman talk before the door closes on him is so funny to me.

CypressxSG

Ahhh. Franky the American dude who likes cola and builds weapon

ChocoBoshi

It doesn't have to be sea water, multiple people have incorrectly commented this despite there being multiple examples of Luffy drowning in freshwater already. When Crocodile tried to drown them in Rainbase he was using drinking water, not salt water.

AJ

but the problem with them is that, when they think something is for jokes they keep that idea in their mind and never change their mind when its explained further in the story as they well say that oda just wanted to change it or their is no rules. Just like objects eats devil fruits

ChocoBoshi

For all the people in the comments posting conflicting information about the seawater vs bathtub stuff in relation to DF users powers, Oda answered this question in SBS 41 which I believe is the chapter where SogeKing burns the WG flag. I think someone posted this on another video on here but I couldn't find it so ill do it again. D: Odacchi! Here's a question for you! Crocodile can't fight water because he's "sand," right? Then how does he bathe?! Does he at all?! That's filthy!! Do you bathe, Odacchi? - by Crocodile's Mother O: First of all, let's discuss the problem of Devil Fruit users bathing themselves. People who have eaten a Devil Fruit are "hated" by the sea, and cannot swim. The "sea" here can refer to anything from rivers, pools and baths to any kind of standing water. On a worldwide level, they are all the "sea." When these people enter the water, not only can they not use their powers, they have trouble moving their bodies at all. They might be able to struggle a bit, but it wouldn't do much good. That's if their entire bodies are submerged in the "sea." With less than half the body or just the limbs, it gets easier. Also, rain and dripping water have no effect at all. Therefore, hip baths or showers are the most common choice. Now, in Crocodile's case, "water" is the weakness of his very powers, so his abilities are robbed even in the shower. But it's not like there are enemies around when you take a shower, so I'd bet he would take them even with his powers being blocked. Don't you think? ---And to answer your final question, about myself bathing. As it happens, I do bathe. Twice! In a year! So it isn't just sea water, its just like Carson was saying, its basically a loose rule that lets DF users have a weakness even on land as well as providing funny moments while also not creating a question of "do devil fruit users never bathe?"

Sanji Joestar

Reminder Lucci 4000 Kaku 2200 Jabra 2180 Blueno 820 Kumadori 810 Fukuro 800 Kalifa 630 This is the Douriki ranking so Kalifa is the weakest

Sanji Joestar

It's not specifically Seawater it's any Body of Water It depends on how much they're immerged

Sanji Joestar

FRAANNNKYYYY SUPEEEEEERRRR

Clockwerk9000

Also to add it’s specifically sea water that effects devil fruit users and typically they can tolerate it up to about their shins after they the start to really feel the effects of it

R

kalifa has already been stated to be the weakest, not third strongest, so nami beating her isnt totally out of the realm of possibilities

Smuckfuzzer

They're weak to seawater

Adam Vialpando

Actually I believe Oda has said that it's all water that affects people, it's just they usually have to be submerged in it. A deep bath could conceivably cause them to get weak and drown, but most users are generally aware of that and don't submerge themselves that deep or they simply take showers.

ChocoBoshi

We learn more as the series goes on, you don't have to clear up these questions this early on. There's still so much time for them to learn these things organically. It may be information about a thing that we know about right now, but the information is probably coming from places that are later in the series than they are currently at right now.

cyberc33

regarding the bath. It has always been established that only seawater = saltwater effect the devil fruit users. So taking a bath is obviously fine. Its called SEA prism for a reason ^^

ChocoBoshi

Honestly, I haven't rewatched this part of this arc in a while and I forgot how much I like Chimney and Gonbe, every time they're on screen I'm smiling

Baronizer

non spoiler answer to one of your questions. being submerged in water doesnt negate devil fruit powers it just weakens the person. and yes devil fruit users can bathe they just cant swim

Baronizer

i have been telling you guys since the beginning, chimney and gonbe are one of my fav details of this arc they are goated

Baronizer

these silly fights never get old

Lūthér HâlÒyèãhmé

From the One Piece wiki: Seastone can be modified to make a Devil Fruit user weak to only a certain extent; for example, Seastone handcuffs are generally modified to rob a prisoner of their powers, but still leave the prisoner strong enough to walk normally, and in some cases, perform hard labor.[8][9] The degree of "weakness" induced by the Seastone depends on its density and composition, with 100% pure Seastone having the greatest weakening effect on Devil Fruit users.[10] However, a Devil Fruit user can resist and even ignore the weakening effect if they have enough physical endurance.[11]

MrBulldog714

The different drinks gag is one of my favorites πŸ˜†

Photonium123

Lol Khalifa was ranked the weakest member of CP9, Jabra was the third (hence the rivalry with Kaku, and why Chopper couldn't really help)

cyberc33

"No earthly reason" good one
