Theyre different characters and they fill their different roles equally well. IMO if you walk away from the series thinking Zoro is Oda's clear favorite between the two then you are probably only concerned with the "class" that combatants occupy in the series which is not the main focus of the narrative.

@pedro I am not talking abt the problem in that sense. Yes, Oda has made it very clear that Zoro is the right-hand man of Luffy. Many of Zoro's frame positions and character designs match some of the later (spoiler) characters and also support how Oda treats him in that regard. But what I'm trying to say is when Zoro and Sanji fight two opponents in a more equal sense, previously like Mr. 1 and 2 (some fights later on as well). Obviously, you can argue since they already named 1 & 2, surely there is a power status difference, but he also shows us how Mr 1 &2 also fight and argue with each other in a similar manner. At least when I read the manga in those type of fights, I can see he let Zoro and Sanji fight their opponent in their own approach, more recent example would be King and Queen. I did not sense Oda made Zoro 'way cooler' in those situations as I felt it in the Anime.

@pedro Having characters separated by classes doesn't mean that a writer favors the ones that are higher in that class system. Would you argue that Nami couldn't possibly be one of his favorite strawhats because she doesn't take part in the same level of fights as Zoro or Luffy? Or that Oda actually likes the people running the Navy more than people within it, like Coby and Garp?

i highly disagree, he choose zoro to fight luffy in whisky peak for a reason. Also since alabasta luffy and zoro are the only SHs with bountys. Oda always puts luffy and zoro in a different league than sanji.

FYI I think its not abt Oda having a bias with Zoro is more of the Anime team favors him more IMO ;P Most the time in the manga as far as my knowledge of reading it. His work gave me the impression Oda has been treating them equally, so idk...

Sun Wukong is a major part of chinese mythology that has inspired many great titles including bleach in some themes of undying presence or witty personalities in naruto, goku, luffy. I don't mean to say that they are copies of him, but they represent a part of wu Kong that made his story so compelling. There are other mythological stories ; one being the 8 immortals which were all humans who were given special tasks by the gods to obtain immortality instead of challenging them such as Sun Wukong would do
