This show is very different from both the comics and the film, the first episode is quite faithful to both the comic and film, but the rest of the series is mostly different. It’s still written by the writer of the original comic, but episodes 2 and on go in a much different direction than either previous version, and I love it. Back to the first episode, there are some things in this episode that are more faithful to the comics, the shot of Ramona and Scott going to the space door has a panel directly lifted from the comics, and Ramona’s flashback to her dating Matthew Patel is lifted directly from the comics. The scene with Gideon and Matthew Patel is completely anime-original. I think you’ll like the rest of the series more since you mentioned liking the original stuff the most because the rest of the show is a completely different story than either the movie or the original comic.

I'd imagine that since it's a show it would be more accurate to the comics. I've never read the comics but I could see people appreciating the show more the movies. Makes me wonder if the show had came out before the movie which one would stand on top.

It’s a mix of things. You mentioned both of the correct answers. You are correct that the way the dialogue is delivered is closer to the comics. The abrupt nature of the movie was just a genius idea to save time and speed through the story as efficiently as possible. With a show, they just have more time so they dispensed with that style. But it’s also because it was animated by a Japanese company, I recommend watching the first episode again in Japanese just to compare but you’ll see that the flow makes more sense in Japanese(also the JP voice cast is really good too as AOT’s Connie is Scott and Chainsaw Man’s Power is Ramona)
