I hope you don't get a wrong idea by all the hype because even like 90% of the people or more, who have read the manhwa and enjoyed it, will tell you that story-wise this is nothing crazy or new & it's just SAO on crack. This genre is like the isekai of Webtoon/manhwa, where there's hundreds of these rpg-like power fantasies with the typical edgy underdog story and alladat, that angsty teenage you might have really loved. And if you have read one, you have (with a few good exceptions) read all of them. It's just that SL happens to be the most hype/fun read, with also crazy good art (arguably even more fluid than the anime). So yeah, it's basically the Demon Slayer anime, but if Kirito was the mc instead...or in some other people's words: "the SAO you always wanted"

yeah as someone who read the first like 50 chapters years ago and barely remembers anything I think this really could have beneifted from a double episode but for now it has my interest

Edit: Yeah not a bad first episode. It wasn't mind blowing but it does make me want to know more about the world.

Aint no way you called my goat Sung "He's just like me fr fr" Drip-Woo that guy from Gleipnir😭 And yeah I agree that it would have greatly benefited, if we got the first 2 eps right away. I understand though why they decided to cut it off here and added some exposition at the start instead.

Fyi: - The story finished 3 years ago - the pilot mentions awakening of the hunter powers. The level is fixed after awakening. Only gear makes you stronger I like your theorizing :) And I am sad that it got the expected downgrade in art style :( (which is only logical due to cost) But after watching it I encourage everyone to check out some art pieces from the manhwa

Dont know if you'll do it but there is another anime this season that was very anticipeted, Dungeon meshi by Studio Trigger ( so very good quality ), the first episode aired on thursday, its an fantasy anime that will be 24 episodes, between this anime and Frieren its the return of the really great quality fantasy anime, i think you'll like it. ( Opening by Bump of chicken so cool bonus ).
