Nami's actress Emily Ruddy is a huge OP fangirl & Mackenyu grew up reading OP, the rest of of the main cast wasn't into anime before they got casted but I imagine the two showrunners (who are huge fans of the show as well) & Emily Rudd made them watch/read a whole bunch lol

Yeeeessss. This did the impossible and got me to watch the anime (been a long time manga reader but I am very behind now) so even tho it is not perfect, it did it’s job in my opinion; to leave people wanting to discover the original or at least watch more seasons of the live action. The actors are great and the adaptation works if you consider that they adapted a ton of chapters into 8 episodes. I like that they included weird things, like the snails, but hold off on some quirky characteristics. But some of the episodes pacing and weird fish-eye camera angles were annoying for me. Overall an enjoyable journey on the east blue!! Can’t wait to see you react to Buggy 😂

so Luffy's actor met Oda himself and during that Oda complimented him and said something along the lines of "looking at you is like looking at Luffy come to life from a manga page" the actors are One Piece fans themselves too
