Do some research on ninjas bud. The info you just stated is inaccurate. Not on anime ninjas lol. It was and still is a real thing. Unfortunately not portrayed well in tv and movies. A ninja in real life would never attack someone in that way. If you need help finding a good source for info to study real ninja culture I can help.

Orochimaru is a complete monster. So who cares if it's not an honorable duel? They're ninja for crying out loud, they're supposed to fight dirty

Not saying he not an ass. But so is Sasuke. As for by what I meant by being on Orochimaru's side for this encounter between them. I simply mean that when I first read this as that was my first time seeing this in the manga, I wanted Sasuke to lose here. At that time I had not understood or forgiven Sasuke for his actions up to this point. So his little speech did nothing for me. Granted knowing what we do know now for those of us who have finished the series I could have a different opinion. But I like to put myself in the shoes of the reacter, in this case the young lady here. Also as a fighter in real life his actions here are completely not cool, attacking someone in bed with no warning just rubs me the wrong way. Our boy Orochimaru is likely at his weakest moment in his adult life and this is when Sasuke chooses to attack him. For me that alone makes me want to root for the Orochimaru.
