I think in this one Kabuto was using reanimation that fed off of whatever the chakra creatures were so when the power starting fading out so did his reanimations. Hence why they didn't regenerate anymore after they blew up.

Well no considering these events don't take place in the canon. But Kabuto does indeed improve the jutsu. But that being said it was a nice way to weave it in there for the anime.

I assume y'all fugured it out by now, but the reason Kabuto was working with the old dude was to get access to his research on the Edo Tensei. That's why he said before that the Jutsu was incomplete and it's used as the reason Kabuto has "improved" on the jutsu com the war
