Chapter 1700 - Scolded
🕑 Added 2025-10-20 01:00:06 +0000 UTC[You did what?]
So loud! Sheesh.
[You have absolutely nothing to complain about,] I grizzle. [I haven’t killed anyone, not even the delvers trying to capture my siblings so they can sell them to a Church and melt them down for experience juice. Asking any more from me than that is ridiculous. Pin a medal on my carapace, dammit.]
[You leaked details of your own physical body in order to lure delvers to try and attack you?] Chyron stated. [Do you have any idea what kind of response that will create? I don’t even know what’s in there, but I know it’s rare.]
What kind of response? A big one, I hope. Does she expect me to complain if I get more rats than I expect in my trap?
[And what? You expect me to… feel sad?]
[I expect you to think before you act,] she growls.
Lady, you’re in for a rough time if that’s what you’re looking for.
[Aren’t you supposed to be getting me killed or something? What do you care if I bring an army of delvers down on my head? I didn’t expect complaints from the Legion, I expected a cheerleading section!]
Morrelia looks like she’s struggling not to laugh. I was taking a break and spending time with Tiny and the gang when Chyron and her two most senior officers turned up. I barely had the time to stand up before Chyron whipped off her helmet and started yelling at me.
I’m going to have to ‘thank’ Solant when I get back to the fifth. I had no idea she’d agreed to let the Legion follow me around in order to secure their help during the wave. My antennae swing heavily through the air.
Rather than a light and sharp ‘swish swish’, they give a rather more ponderous ‘thwoom thwoom’ sort of sound. They’re just too dang big. It’s not going to be easy to figure out how hard I can thwack the little general without smashing her carapace to pieces.
I’ll need to find that line and then dial it back two or three percent.
[I won’t say no if you want to get yourself killed,] Chyron says, staring up at me with her arms crossed. [What I’m worried about is the disruption and potential damage you’ll cause with your stupidity. At a time when the waves are growing stronger and the cities are struggling to hold off the monsters, if you destroy a thousand high-level delvers, then Green Mountain may not survive another year.]
[Which is my problem how?] I say, exasperated. [If they lose the fight they picked, who do they have to blame other than themselves?]
[Isn’t it the Church of the Path who picked the fight?] Chyron says pointedly. [The delvers of Green Mountain are only a proxy trying to do their jobs.]
[You aren’t helping your case. Their ‘job’ is abducting my sisters to be painfully and slowly melted into vitamin smoothies. Why am I supposed to show infinite forbearance, when it isn’t shown to me and my family? Come to think of it, how in the heck am I getting lectured on this by a member of the Legion?! You lot are entirely without chill when it comes to monsters! Chill-less! No chill to be found!]
I point an accusatory antenna at the Commander.
[You have ties to Green Mountain, don’t you? Grew up there? Family? Own a quaint bistro? Investment property? Got married in a scenic church thirty years ago to a poet named Romero, and now that he’s gone, all you have left are the memories and the sandals you wore when you strolled along the beach hand in hand?]
That got… surprisingly detailed.
Morrelia's shoulders are literally shaking and the other officer isn’t much better off. He’s holding it in so far, but his expression is suspiciously tight. If something doesn’t change, he looks like he’s going to pop.
Chyron is silent for a long moment.
[I was born there,] she begrudgingly admits.
[Well, maybe spend some time convincing the people of your birthplace not to poke the bear. In this instance, it’s not a bear, though, it’s an ant. But… like… a really big and powerful one.]
Poke the ant just doesn’t sound as impressive as poke the bear….
[Sh-should I go and get Sarah? She’s a type of bear. I’m pretty sure she can eat a whole lot of delvers. Though she wouldn’t like that. Look, I’m pretty sure the Colony even tried to pay off Green Mountain and they refused our money in order to keep hunting us. I really don’t think they have a leg to stand on when it comes to how we treat them from this point forward.]
I’m trying to be as polite as I can while still telling Chyron to butt out. She’s totally aware of it as well.
[I’ll be keeping an eye on you for the near future,] she growls, glaring up at me. [I’m aware you’re being as… generous as you can be, but I’ll be forced to act if I believe you are going to bring harm on the sapient people of Pangera.]
[Which doesn’t include me.]
[Which doesn’t include you.]
Sheesh. These people are hopeless.
[I feel like I need to remind you of something here, Chyron. When you say you’re going to act, I assume that means you’re going to try and stop me from doing what I want.]
I drag my antenna through my elbow joint. It’s incredibly satisfying to have them be clean and free of dirt and such.
[Now, a thought comes to mind when I picture that scenario.]
I point to Chyron, Morrelia, and whathisname with a foreleg.
[You’re going to stop me? You and what Legion? I’m a tier eight mythic monster. The three of you can’t stop me from doing anything.]

Ahhhhh so satisfying! Putting Chyron in her place!

Squish.
alt31415
Well no, that's just a reasonable assumption to make.

The axe light that nearly cut him in half, from a higher-level commander than Chryon, back when he was tier FIVE. He didn't go against a full blade master either but was casually toying with one 9/10th. Chyron, plain and simply, isn't that girl. "She is right too that the church are the main culprits." - Again, as Anthony said, that doesn't matter. The delvers are literally trying to kidnap his family and sell them to be MURDERED. Fuck all of them.
Nachotoad
“Lady, you’re in for a rough time if that’s what you’re looking” It’s nice to see our boy has gotten to this level of self aware
Silent Consent
I swear, he hasn’t fought her so he has zero idea what she can do! Has he already forgotten the ax light that cut him completely in half?!? I don’t think he went up against a full blade master either. The legion knows they are putting 90% of everything into the 5th and they can seriously screw them over. She is right too that the church are the main culprits. He should capture the delvers then release half of them to deliver the church leadership to him. Then make them all watch as he subjects the church to the ritual before releasing the delvers and letting them know they are welcome to hunt him in the 5th at their own risk but if they kidnap a single Ant it’s liquid xp for them.

Thanks for the chapter!

"[Which doesn’t include you.]" - While we're at it, kill Chryon too. There is no room for people who deny the sapience of others. None.
Anthony Romanov
Area around Fortress is clear from any corruption.
Mo Alawami
I've been wondering the same too. That and what happened with the templars. Last we heard, they passed out when Anthony was abducted by the Krath.
Name
Did Protectant and the other guards live through the corruption?
Gavin Wayne Pitcher
Likely the prae's are trying to kill an unkillable monster on the sixth, much like whats about to happen on the 4th.
Brian Schwab
He’s already trying that, and green mountain wasn’t willing to pay, it was in one of the recent chapters.
Hayden Leech
Hmmm. Where are those Praetorians? The things we saw deployed when they chopped down the mother tree. Those things can fight in the fourth.
CherMi
They're waiting for him in the sixth stratum, here there are only Chyron, Morrelia and another officer. They're really not enough to stop Anthony and if they attack while he's dealing with delvers, he can just say they breached the agreement that Solant made and send them off.
Ragged
Bro wait a second... lets calm down Anthony. We're still talking about the murder machine built to kill all monsters and whatever they can bear on your damn shiny and magnificent head. The true depth of power that the Legion has is still not truly explored and in my opinion should not be explored when they're fighting with the damned slugs.
Starter_guy
Take all the prisoners to the 5th, take all their equipment and belongings for the trouble and just keep them there. They cannot leave without protection and the ants have the only safe haven for them there
Loulatsch
I dont know what fufo is but i like it

[You have ties to Green Mountain, don’t you? Grew up there? Family? Own a quaint bistro? Investment property? Got married in a scenic church thirty years ago to a poet named Romero, and now that he’s gone, all you have left are the memories and the sandals you wore when you strolled along the beach hand in hand?] Okay now we know the passive of he eyes
Cinnamon Toast
I think you are forgetting that this is Anthony's perspective and he has choosen to to interpret things how he feels like beforehand
andwhyisit
The sack of the Silver City is noted as a future event at the start of chapter 1324. This is what was written: "The sack of the Silver City marked a point of no return in the great war. Though the ants turned back, and did not commit the final blow against the Child-Emperor, none within the Atreum Empire could ever tolerate peace from that moment onward." The term "sack" is defined thusly: "to plunder (a place, such as a town) especially after capture" Basically a larger-scale version of breaking and entering. Basically you can infer it as the Colony forcing their way into the Silver City to obtain something or achieve an objective, and then left. Also note that this is not written from the perspective of the Colony. The Child-Emperor wasn't killed, but there is no way to be sure that they were even a target to begin with. Plus even if the Child-Emperor was a target, the reason they were spared is not noted. Anthony isn't even mentioned, so while it makes sense for him to be there, there is nothing to suggest that he was. Rammon isn't noted at all.

Next chapter preview: Anthony: Oh, her and that Legion. Wow, that's a lotta guys~
Rahsheem Reid
That part.
Slapjack
I think its canon that Anthony sacks the silver city and only spares the Child emperor when that protector phoenix fella make him remember the favor he owes. Gonna be interesting in seeing where the Legion fit in and how hard they try to stop him.
Slapjack
They've got mechas!?!?!
Brudog2
Not to bash your idea but I’m pretty sure the colony as a whole is against that idea since they believe if you’re forced to do the work they’ll just have to do it again. At least I think I’m remembering this from somewhere like a couple hundred chapters ago or something lol
Scott Faulkner
there's a lot of fufo in the story right now and I am here for it
Alessandro Mattioli
Honestly, I’d loved to see what Deserter Legionaries would be like. They could be called Colony Centurions.
Theweird12345
I like how the commander is now fine with taking off her helmet to yell at Anthony, and the other officer, who I presume to be the stuck up one, is now enjoying this. It just goes to show that the personality of the COLONY and Anthony is just contagious
Greg Mat
Instead of killing the delvers that come, ransom them back for huge sums, bankrupt green mountain.
Blaze986
the colony is also just a potential danger, not immediate danger so the legion wouldn't be sending that much forces on them
Owen Kaz
For everyone saying "The legion has stronger forces" yes they do, but there is a reason they are not brining them to bare already. Anthony and the colony is merely tolerated for now, not solely because they are better than the alternative, but because the legion is stretched rather thin at the moment due to, ya know, the unprecedented waves of mana that have been occurring more and more.
jeffrey niski
The thwacking is coming Solant. Hope you can think afterwards
bob
Make them slaves! Make them slaves! Make them slaves!
Hayden Leech
Oh I love it. Get rowdy! Make a mess! Who’s gonna stop ya!
giann flroesca
ROMERO NO!!!!! WHY?! WHY YOU?!? YOU POETIC SOUL!!!
Igor Chmurski
I will be shocked if the next chapter doesn't begin with "oh... You and THAT legion!" At least that would fit the ammount of glazing the legion is recieving so far. Or maybe its time for a Pacyfik rim with one of their mechas going up
Anthony Romanov
Righteous THWACKING requires minimal margins!
Ibuks5
F*cking badass, that ending
Sgt. Rock
"Anthony" and "Planning" do not go hand in hand.
Buck
Loved the chapter! Any chance of more being released same day? TFTC!
Buck
Agreed. Both Anthony and Solant.
Buck
Going to dial it back ONLY 2-3%?! Solant is doomed! 😂
Sparaten
Put them in there place 😂
Wensber
Thanks for the chapter!
Codered999
You know what, I think he might slowly be winning her over despite her best attempts to think of him as simply another monster.
CentaureHeart
"[I expect you to think before you act,] she growls. Lady, you’re in for a rough time if that’s what you’re looking for." This was just beautiful. Thanks for the chapter!
Brandon14754
She's gonna call in the praetorians for sure
Gabus Deux
Sure, but they are very important
UNKNOWN
Like do ants call termites wood chompers, and do the termites insult the ants' mothers? I was just wondering since I just listened to book 7 of Chrysalis.
Gabus Deux
I love these moments where anthony get serious. "You and what legion?" While absolutely towering over them
shawn B
He’s forgetting there are other monsters in the legion
UNKNOWN
Unrelated to the chapter, but I was wondering. Do termites and ants have slurs they call each other mid battle?
KooZnack
Thanks for the chapter!
