Chapter 1494 - Gravity Only Gets Deeper

The Colony has put enormous time, effort and resources into attempting to map all of these, to create a complete record of every type of mana and magic discipline, but at some point we began to believe that our quest may not be possible.
Some forms of mana are so esoteric that access to them is extremely difficult to acquire. It’s unknown exactly what is needed to unlock some of these rare magics, and the possibility that the way we ants think is preventing us from being able to use them.
Some individuals have been able to attune themselves to rare and powerful magic, but are not always able to pass on their knowledge to others. The Eldest is a prime example. Despite several attempts, they were never able to unlock their particular, devastating brand of magic for anyone other than themself.

I may not have been able to get much in the way of Biomass while I’m down here, but I sure as heck have had plenty of time to practise my combat Skills. I’ve been chomping, blasting with fire, dashing all over the place and making judicious use of my gravity mana through all sorts of intense fights.
By now I’m sure to have reached some caps. I mean, I should be regularly checking and upgrading my Skills as soon as I’m able, it’s not like I’m struggling for Skill Points right now… but I can’t be bothered—I mean I’ve been very busy!
There’s a whole invasion of the fifth stratum going on right now, war with the slug tribes and all sorts of important stuff to deal with! Who’s got time or energy for fiddling around with Gandalf? Not me!
Well… I suppose I do right now….
I wander back into the fortress, heading away from the bruan’chii and their touching reunion toward the inner chambers. So many of them are complete now, and there’s a bit more available space since there aren’t build teams everywhere, or large stockpiles of construction materials crowding everything.
Once I spot a sufficiently out of the way pocket, I plop myself down, take a breath and open up my status screen. As expected, there’s a large number of Skills that need upgrading, some important ones at that, but my eyes are first drawn to one in particular, my pride and joy: Gravity Magic Affinity.
Lo’ and behold! There it is in my status screen!
Master Gravity Mana Affinity (IV) Level 40.
Which means… I can rank it up! Grandmaster, here we come! I’m so excited, I spend the Skill Point immediately, not bothering to look at any else. As soon as it's done, an overwhelming flood of knowledge begins to pour into my brains, filling them with a trickling, shivery sensation as new information takes shape within my memory.
And it’s a heck of a lot of knowledge, which is exciting! I wonder how many spells I just learned! The last upgrade gave me the Gravity Well, which is a rather handy piece of magic, to say the least. Whatever I get this time is going to be just as, if not more impressive, so I’m super keen to see what it does!
As soon as the process finishes, I start dredging through this new knowledge, picking up each individual piece before setting it back down again in a new spot as I try to piece the puzzle together.
It’s a painstaking process, and one that isn’t made any easier by the sheer bulk of what I have to process. I mean, a puzzle doesn’t get easier if there are more pieces, right? Generally speaking, the opposite is true. So it is with these complex patterns that are used to form spells. Every single spell is an intricate weaving of mana, a three dimensional masterpiece with hundreds, if not thousands of interlocking parts that all need to be perfect for the spell to function properly. Even the simplest bolt is a complex shape that requires a high level of mental fortitude to create.
As I pick through my new knowledge, I’m eager to see just how many new shapes I’ve been given, but as I work, I slowly start to realise that all these pieces I’ve been looking at seem to all fit the same general puzzle. Which means, I’ve only unlocked a single new spell.
And… looking at just how much knowledge was shoved into my brain, its… rather large. Even larger than Gravity Well was.
This is just unreasonable! Do you have any idea how hard it is to cast Gravity Well? It’s ridiculous! Creating an adaptable mass of power that can selectively exert the power of gravity might sound really simple, but I assure you it isn’t! Whatever the heck this spell does, it better be mighty impressive, because it’s going to take ages for me to be able to cast it reliably!
Before I can even start to practise, I need to go through this process to get the actual shape right. After a couple of hours of using all of my brains to work on the problem at the same time, I’ve made a lot of progress, and I have to say, this spell is giving me the heebie-jeebies.
For starters, it requires an absurd amount of mana. Like… all of it. All of the mana. Second, if I’m not mistaken, it seems to be rather… dangerous. And I don’t mean to whatever I’m aiming at, I mean in general. I mean, to me.
Putting this much power into such a small space, in such a chaotic way just… just can’t be right. If I actually cast this thing… just what is going to happen?

To unlock Gravity mana affinity, Anthony not only had to evolve to TIER 7, but he also mutated his main brain to be able to better handle gravity mana, on top of altering his build to better align with gravitational forces. And that’s not even considering him constantly using his gravity mana gland in unique and interesting ways since the moment he got it.

The slugs have tried their best to not be present for his spells at all. They send mindless crazed monsters at him instead. And seconds? He barely ever has time to leave his own gravity bombs which also take seconds.

Hours? No wonder you think it would be weak. I was thinking more like seconds. The moment he leaves the radius, which could also be massive, the spell would activate. Besides, the slugs haven't tried to erase his spells at all.

They literally have been. He packs a lot of it into them and that makes it hard to take apart in time, but if it's something like "set it and a few hours I come back" then that plan is dead on arrival.

Sounds pretty weak. Like, so many creatures at this level can sense and disperse mana.

Hmmm now that I think about it the one thing that makes sense to need THIS much mana to work is some form of extremely powerful nuke. So in this case some form of singularity delete button. Possibly centered around him (he will have to adapt his body to be able to somehow accept it and not get crushed by his own black hole). I would guess wormhole and teleport gates but Brilliant already has accomplished that

You are basing that on the assumption that knowledge of Gravity is the ONLY prerequisite for learning Gravity magic, and I'm not sure that is a reasonable assumption. It might require a certain human factor that Anthony has, as a reincarnated human, that the rest of the colony simply lacks. It's possible that the Colony's human contingent might have better luck, simply because their class system is different from the Monster's evolution system.

I bet it's like an instant blackhole. Like using the domain, he sets an area with him at the center, leaves, and then when the spell activates, everything within is just instantly annihilated. Like the gravity bomb but instant

Void Chomp is still Tier 6, none of his skills are at tier 7 yet. It would be his first skill to reach Tier 7

I think its pretty unreasonable to paint Anthony as THIS dumb... I mean explaining to some of the super intelligent researchers the basic concept of "gravity" really shouldn't be any problem even IF he just says "Big things pull others things in the bigger the thing the more they pull that is why we "walk on the ground" because it pulls us toward the Big thing Pangea"... With the practical applications shown by his magic the Ants would 100% figure out all gravity based knowledge and research and then eventually the magic skill... I personally get more and more of the feeling the Author writes this story with an extremely overpowed Colony, only to also produce super Strong "antagonists" and to make it funny puts in Anthony as perhaps the dumbest MC to ever live or it feels like that often, not even in the things we see him do or think but more of the things we passively are told he supposedly "fails to do" or "does usually on accident"... Lol

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember way back, the colony selected certain individuals to choose the Gravity Mana Glad in the same way Anthony did. They just couldn’t get anywhere near the same amount of power or versatility from it that he can. Or is the excerpt just talking about the Gravity Mana skill?

Sustainable means that you have stable fusion with a positiv energy balance. Fusion only produces energy up to iron beyond that it takes more energy to fuse than you get out. The easiest are deuterium based fusion reactions. Anthonys gravity does not even get close to the density required for fusion. But a blackhole has no need for fusion throwing stuff into one generates more energy than any fusion reaction is able to.

Yes but do you know what that 'sustainable' means? It means you spent more energy fusing than the actual fusing gives you. If you're going for destruction just use that initial energy to destroy instead. What's the point?

Fusion doesn't require lighter elements. It just requires enough force for the atoms to fuse together. The lighter elements bit is for sustainable fusion power.

I'm just imagining Anthony going up to Brilliant and saying something like, Alright Brilliant, here's the plan. You teleport us to this place several thousand km away, I cast this spell, we teleport as far as possible from it as we can, and we check back in a week to see what happened.
