Eh, I got hit plenty in melee range. Just so happens that as the player you can tank it. And you don't feel the heat :).

G. Harthane

Thanks. Yeah I edited a bit of the earlier stuff to make it less overbearing with the constant self criticism. And I made it so that it's not all just thoughts but instead just written out. Buuuut as I hate editing it may take a while :D

G. Harthane

That would be lovely, though I suppose one would just dick around all day while the other is about as productive as I am right now :P

Feels like playing Dark Souls. I like that most of his attributes are coming from his equipment, that leaves space for changes and him staying in the realm of humans. I wonder if you get notified by comments to older posts. I do hope there'll be some development outside of continuously doing the same.

G. can also set-up pages to quickly navigate between chapters, so I doubt it will be an issue.

I'm not going to read this series yet but I was thinking if let's say In a 100 chapters I want to it's going to be a hell of a mess sorting it all out with 100's of AH chapters in here... solutions make it it's own patreon. would imo be the best people came here for AH and while I have every intention of reading this one you don't owe it to me. People reading leaves will go to this ones patreon and pay to read it. Simple, I think. Just my 2 cent o think your awesome either way.

i love AH and also like leaves, tbh i dont mind slow pacing start at all if it is needed to push foundations in right place cuz if they are not there it would make story less perfect, enjoyable and even harder to write in future. SO im glad if Rhae takes his time to do what is right. not to mention even this slow start is not boring at all. It might look like that cuz 1 chapter per week seems like too slow for them so they cant get into it.

I like a lot AH for the humor you put in it.. it's every time a refreshing read. But here i feel it only can be dead serius. Fourteen chapters without any encounter, it's like a too long intro for me right now. Having a guy investing full vitality because he don't want to suffer, make him run away or die for every half chapter make him believable. But at the same time, his strugles are frustrating and achievements less and less interesting. Killing dead one by one without chalenge because you have a spear who give you range, and the strengh to use it.. i don't take any pleasure or interest in that: -He kill them by doing the job properly: okay nothing new to the sun. -He is killed because of his mistakes (mostly all his death could be avoided and would be in read where revival is not a thing). The fact that revival is a thing, give you a way to leave every hard situation. Actualy, he didn't shine at any time: every time he should have died or be punished, he was. So.. okay.. it's grim and he have to die often. But please make these deaths have sens in the story. Make him strugle, but don't throw him through two, three windows. One is enough because the chapters are already short without that. Make him make mistake, but make him shine more. If Ilea was alone, killing boring drake all time, with nothing fun.. i don't think i could enjoy this. I even have to say that when i started reading AH, i had a lot of chapter to read (250) and the twenty first chapters were not that interesting. I think that you improved a lot in a short time, to be the great author you are now, but i still don't like the way you open your stories. And unlike AH, i can't read through the thirty or forty first chapters. And yes, i know you can't use elipse that soon, to skip "the boring stuff", but you could have put.. i don't know.. a cursed ring to rull them all.. a thing that hook the reader. PS: He should have 22 strengh and not 15.

It's a little frustrating to read this with my meta knowledge of the Dark Souls franchise - like any caster in melee range against a spear user (the best and most noob friendly weapon in the series) is really just a sparkly shish kebab, haha.

Dennis

Love the story and love the dark vibe. One lucky fellow to have not run into a horde in his panic.

it's gotten better. I'm still not very invested in it, but that may take awhile and everyone's prefs are different. It was mostly the endless "I'm so worthless, I always have been, always will be" internal dialog in the beginning that was off-putting for me to read, although the darker tone is also not my pref (good job on the world so far, even if it's not my thing; it's nicely visual and memorable already). Good use of the various senses to make it seem realistic. Most importantly, I hope you're having fun! Ty for the chapter.

Have you considered an writing an alternative POV where the character actually gets to talk to others?

BookDragonling

i've read a story similar to this in the way that the first part was just the MC by himself. I find it hard to read when there's literally no interaction with other people and it's just the MC's thoughts. I'll do the same thing I did with the other story... Skim until MC is no longer in the void. (I liked the other story that had this 'problem' so I think I'll like this too once it's not just MC in the same place thinking thoughts to himself)

tibbish

Heeeeeck no. Healer beats this by a mile. Its fine if the author needs to do this to keep the creative juices and Healer chapters flowing at the current rate but Leaves is nowhere near as solid as Healer. Cutting Healer chapters to do more Leaves would be a disaster

Alexander Dupree

So the description of the house he slept in the first night implied it only had 2 rooms then you said 2 stories and many rooms. Generally low tech cities aren't going to have glass for every window as that's super expensive. That implies every person who lives there is rich or glass is very cheap. Is he still in a noble district or something?

I would like some more, please. Seriously, Healer is great and maybe for this the single chapter a week is best. but I wouldn't mind more of one and less of the other.

Lockwood

I'm getting pretty into this series. Could you pull a Michael and have one you write this and the other write Healer? Anyway, thx for the chap. Edit: (Michael McGold-Mage from Healer)

Yeah it is fantastic story, but every week it get updated only once and the chapters are very short

Malir Blackspear

It's a shame this isn't updated as often. I quite enjoy this series.
