Exactly 💯 and never critiques these oppressive systems that have these black women suffering in the first place

I don't think that I've ever really enjoyed Tyler Perry but my mother was a fan back when he was doing stage productions. I've watched his works just because i grew up in a Christian household and there wasn't many other options. As an adult, i gave up on TP after the one where Journee Smollett got AIDs from cheating on her husband or some shit. I realized that his story telling was lazy and harmful. As for Straw, I thought that it was just all around terrible. I couldn't take it seriously because people were laughingly evil to her. Sometimes I feel like I'm emotionally stunted because I felt nothing outside of when we learn that her baby passed. The writing and acting was terrible so it took me out of it for the most part.

I was literally just saying this like it’s tired & honestly doing more harm than good. if he’s gonna do this in the name of creativity & visibility then let’s actually get CREATIVE

Let's be honest. At this point, Tyler Perry has profited from Black Trauma Porn. It's almost as if he is using the struggles of Black women as fetish. My issue is that IF the black women in his works have a "win", it is the direct result of a man coming in to save her. If not, she has a "bad ending". Example: Straw: Her daughter dies, she goes to jail Mea Culpa: Kelly lives with knowing she got played and almost killed A fall from grace: Grace is proven innocent. (I guess that's a win but look at what she went through to only have "freedom" as the consolation prize). Acromiony: She dies in the end. WHAT IS THE POINT OF SHOWING BLACK WOMEN DEALING WITH THESE ISSUES IF YOU DON'T SHOW HOW WE OVERCOME THEM!!?!

MAKE THE VIDEO FRIEND I’m gonna watch it this weekend so I can know really what’s going on lol. But not even having seen the movie yet there is a post going around on social media that is clocking everybody’s tea because it says people will be mad at Tyler Perry for his portrayal of black women, but then turn around and watch Zeus network. I don’t watch Zeus personally, and I don’t really like TP’s portrayal of black women in a lot of his material, but they aren’t wrong with that comparison
