The man who is a older soldier is called Bill Bailey and is/was a famous British comedian. Alexander Armstrong who plays the husband is also a famous TV/Radio presenter/Comedian in UK.

Arabella Weir played Billis and in the late nineties David Tennant was her lodger. She was also the second woman to play the Doctor in a story called Exile written by Dalek and Cyberman voice actor Nicholas Briggs.
