If I had a nickel for every time Rory has 'died' in front of Amy, I'd have three nickels, which is... quite a lot, really XD (especially if you want to count this ep as twice lol)

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has significantly contributed to the pirate stories medium. But I would say more specifically for this story, Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island is slightly more integral as the inspiration and influence. As well as Siren legends or course.
