In the original myth Pandora was given a jar not a box. Someone later on mistranslated a word as box when it should've been jar. It would've been weird to see the Doctor trapped in a jar.

Emme just so you know, any cybermen you see in the show from now on, starting from this episode are from the main universe and not the parallel universe from series 2. The main giveaway is the fact that in this episode they mentioned the Cybermen having “cyberships” and being more galactic. This is because the cybermen from our universe are not from earth, but instead from other planets, whereas the ones from series 2 are from a parallel earth.
