This episode is truly spectacular, like a rollercoaster even! Thank you for highlighting the ending, it's my belief that The Doctor took nurse Redferns words to heart about choosing 1913 and therefore bringing destruction, so he chooses to give Tim the Watch. Prior to meeting The Doctor I think Tim & Hutchinson would've died during the war(a fixed point in time, a bit like how Rose's dad dies) but the Doctor chose to save Tim and he's able to live a life the war denied so many people
