The way they talk about skill in games is how climbing is for me. I’ve gotten stronger than my friends way faster than they did and I climb higher grades and as much praise as they give me I’m always aware that I’m rarely even the best person in the gym at any given moment. Like sure I sent a V9 but I haven’t even been outside before and it goes all the way up to V17 out there I know nothing

I definitely had that humbling experience, where I was the best smash player in my high school by a pretty wide margin but then I entered a few tournaments and got absolutely stomped. I was an overconfident teenager so that along with the unsolicited advice my opponents kept giving me killed my drive to keep playing.
