I used to not track my period when I got it bc 1. it was pretty irregular anyway 2. I'd get so genuinely depressed purely bc I was bleeding I barely had any cramps I was very lucky but I could not STAND the feeling of bleeding like that for sometimes up to a week straight and the notif that it was coming soon just made me mad. anyway now I'm on the depo shot so I don't get a period and it's the best thing ever I love it highly recommend

Vagina owner here - I would track my period on the pill because I have such horrible periods that I’d use the pill to skip my periods. So I’d take three packs in a row and skip the sugar pills so I could go up to three-ish months between periods. But I’d track it so that I wouldn’t forget when to let myself get my period. Then when I got off the pill I was tracking because I was trying to get pregnant. That was successful so I haven’t had one since May which means no need to track

Hello, I didn’t track my period when I was on the pill because of how regular it was (because of the pill), then I tracked it to get pregnant and now I track it because it’s all fucked after baby, but if I got on the pill again I wouldn’t track it again. Irregular period cycles can be an indicator for something broader occurring if you're typically regular. Girl in the chat here: I personally don’t keep good track of my period, I just kinda know in a couple of days if it’s coming up, and I also have a lighter flow overall so if I do get caught unawares it’s not a big deal I can go without anything for a few hours. I use the Nexplanon for birth control, which is a little plastic rod with hormones that gets injected into your arm usually and lasts for 3 years. I opted for that since pills can be hard to take consistently and are not as effective. Also fun fact, I can’t do an IUD or something similar because I have a birth defect that divides my uterus in two (uterine septum) and causes me to have really long periods because each half starts at slightly different times it seems. Wack shit.

GUYS the sugar pills are not to “make you suffer” or because “it’s unhealthy to not have your period”. It’s because birth control is only ~99% effective so you need to have your period each month to make sure you aren’t in the 1% of people that still get pregnant while on birth control. If you’re taking BC to prevent pregnancy you SHOULD NOT skip the sugar pills unless you want to risk a cryptic pregnancy.

genuinely kinda dope that you guys can talk about periods without being weird about it. :) but yes, you can take birth control continuously so you don’t have a period every single month, which has been an absolute life saver for me personally. i would not be able to function without it. generally as long as i am consistent (& by consistent, i mean take it at pretty much the *exact* same time every single day) then i don’t need to keep track since i can basically decide when it happens. but if i have even just one day where i forget to take it at the right time, it fucks everything up. it’s not very forgiving lmao.

(crazy i know) i do in fact tract my periods but it’s because mine are relatively inconsistent so it’s good to know how long i am going in between periods so i know what stage i am in hormonally (i have an iud for reference). a lot of my friends with and without birth control also track their periods as well, it’s good to know when you’re about to start especially for those with heavy periods that need to be prepared. also for women who are trying to get pregnant these apps can also tell when you are ovulating (most likely to get pregnant) so that they have better chances. the more you know!
