In response to the over sharing thing -I'm pretty high up in a corporate position and used to run into people oversharing like that all the time. I definitely think your response varies between repeat offenders vs an every once in awhile thing. I definitely start by changing the subject or just pulling a "wow that's crazy." If it's someone that does it all the time, I will absolutely say (as politely as possible) "I'm not comfortable talking about topics like that at work, sorry!" Sometimes they'll try to push you on that and ask why... Gotta play that by ear, but most people will just say "Oh" then go off and stew about it lol

^^^contrapoints (trans woman youtube thinker) had a really good video 'The Left' that addresses specifically how white young american men (and american men in general) arent always given spaces in left culture. Having role models, older men who are being seen as cool or interesting or successful in some way, is important to swaying guys to either side- and the right has a lot of men they see as cool.

One of my favorite coworkers in my tech company job is a former GOOD NFL player. Was a starter for 5+ years and got a 2nd contract and he still has to work a normal job after.

miles is right that dunking culture sends young men right into right-wing pipelines, but I think what keeps them there is the unique feeling of empowerment that comes from putting other people down: these men are hurt and angry at leftist media and concepts that they do not try to understand or empathize with So it's this amalgamation of this right-wing persona telling them there's nothing wrong with them, the parasocial connection that follows, the comfortability of being stuck in bigoted views, the safety of having this community online, etc.. all wrapped up in the bow that is one or two objectively morally good takes (tate) that end up painting the image that they are in the right camp great episode tho, 2 parts rly resonated w me: being cordial with someone you dont share beliefs with and the end where miles talks about giving people benefit of the doubt and positive mindspace
