I would encourage the third person to go out and get a private pilots license! Depending on where they are from (gonna ballpark PNW (including B.C)) it would cost 10-20k to go from nothing to private pilot. Flying is a great way to see the world and having a friend that would most likely knock off training costs (as mentioned friend is commercial rated and therefore most likely is a CFI) is a huge bonus. If you have the time/money, go out and get a license, maybe save up and go 50/50 on an old 150 with that pilot friend potentially use that pilots license to help. Pilots N Paws is a non-profit that flies recused dogs to loving families. It really sucks you can't chase that dream of being a commercial pilot, but there are still plenty of great opportunities to enjoy general aviation.

I am currently a Private Pilot who was interested in Airlines/crop dusting but ultimately realized Airlines are not for me. I am about to head off to Air Traffic Controller school! There are so many jobs in the Aviation Industries that are just as fulfilling! I Also worked ramp at an international airport and got to work with the planes hands on. While I worked there opportunities for being a mechanic, airport operation crew, and flight attendant opened up! Go get your foot in the door and see what connections you can make and see what the work is actually like!
