guys, *a lot* of people were talking about how unethical the fappening was at the time. i was young and remember it very vividly. (i say this because aiden and slime claim nobody spoke out against the fappening at the 30 min mark.) the fact that you didnt see it speaks more about your bubble. i still obviously think that the internet as a whole has kinda matured since the fappening but its worth mentioning that this maturity has been fought for over a long period of time

I was going to or from Canada when I was young with my mom, her friend and her son. We had the fucking bright idea to make a joke about being kidnapped to the border guard and thing I really remember is being fucking scolded by the border patrol lmao. This was pre 9/11 so they might have been a little more lax and it was probably obvious we weren't in danger but I still cringe about this every once in a while.

the interesting thing about the fappening is as a woman i remember it differently. i remember among women at the time (or in my case, girls in high school) thought it was disgusting and we were all expressing how violating it is. i think this says more about how men are slowly understanding it from a woman's perspective rather than just their own. loved this episode!

About canadian border patrol I have a crazy story from my dad. In 2006 my dad was in New York and he had like a day to do whatever, but because he's belarussian he wanted to go to a sauna and found a good one in Canada while waiting for my brother to arrive at the airport. He drove past the border with slightly less than 10k dollars because that's how much you need to declare went to the sauna and then came back past the border. At the border he got stopped by the police and my dad being the absolute airhead he is sometimes was a bit sassy. They asked him how much money and he responded less than 10k and was just all around a bit ignorant in answering them. They ended up stripping him to underwear and searching the car. They asked him if he had drugs and he responded "Idk its a rental". When they searched his car they found a gps which wasn't popular at the time that they thought might be a bomb and a notebook written in 3 seperate languages and also slightly encoded, because my dad's a businessman that's slightly paranoid. After like a couple hours they completely took apart his car and put it back together and let him go free, because he literally had nothing illegal, but holy shit are those people serious.

loved this ep! I think you two nailed it on your fappening discussion; i was also in college and remember that being a turning point on understanding consent because so many of my female friends were appalled by it. also, japan following WWII did in fact not have a military! Over time they developed what's known as the japan self defense forces which is effectively a military, just focused on defensive capabilites within the various defense treaties they hold with other countries including the US.
