Not finished with the ep but it’s really great, I love that y’all are getting to cover that period of SoCal Melee. I think I disagree with Slime’s assertion that some piece of the culture has been permanently lost, I know in my heart locals are still happening in random ass card shops were people from different walks of life rip dabs, play games and bool out weekly. It’s certainly happening where I live. It will forever be a self-selecting group of people who choose to seek out the in-person experience of melee. While it’s true that Slippi has provided a sufficient alternative means of engaging with the game (playing in your room alone with rollback), Melee will still foster that in person vibe for as long as people play the game. At least that’s what I’d like to believe.
